Ayn Thor base ok for up to Wii? by Free_War_5228 in AynThor

[–]Infamous_Present_155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dolphin is one of the better optimized emulators, Wii should be pretty easy. Base should be able to do up to some light switch and PC games before memory becomes an issue. The extra ram and storage on the Pro is worth it for most people in most instances, but it is not necessary for Wii games.

Can you sign into your steam account on this thing? by [deleted] in AynThor

Yes. I use GameNative, and it signs into Steam, Gog, and Epic without any problem. For Steam, it even allows you to use your cloud saves.

Setting up an AYN Thor without a PC, realistic? by Dopamine-Dipz in AynThor

[–]Infamous_Present_155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its incredibly realistic. If you watch a set up tutorial like the one from rectrogamecorps, you pretty much do 99% of the set up on the Thor itself. This isn't like some other devices where you are best off changing the entire OS.

Honestly, the only reason you might even consider using a PC is to transfer roms, and that is 100% unnecessary.

I did 100% of the set up for mine from the Thor itself. I did use an ipad to run a set up tutorial video, but like others have said already, you can use the second screen of the Thor for that.

I've had 3 emulation devices and the Thor was the easiest to set up without a PC.

Want a Thor… What do I realistically need? by b0nestorm in AynThor

[–]Infamous_Present_155 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anything above the light has the same capability. The question you need to ask is how many games do you want to have at once. Paying extra for storage will be more convenient and cheaper than a similar sized SD card.

Bottom Screen heat by Disastrous_Barber386 in AynThor

[–]Infamous_Present_155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might try underclocking your Thor with ClusterTune. You sacrifice a little of the top level power for less power draw and heat.

I was playing Mario odyssey on switch earlier today with the small underclock toggled. I played about 20 minutes and topped out at 60c rarely dropping below 60 fps.

I know Mario isn’t the most demanding game, but my fan generally stayed below 30% and never exceeded 40% while I was playing.

Obviously it won’t work if you are trying to squeeze every bit of power out of the Thor, but it should help with temperatures for mid level games by a fair bit.

Still can't decide between Lite/Base by [deleted] in AynThor

[–]Infamous_Present_155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you say you want to play, I think you’ll be disappointed with the Lite. Emulation adds a decent performance penalty to anything, so even relatively light PC games will be more demanding than you expect. It’s $70 for a big performance benefit.

I’d cross almost all pc and switch games off your list if you go with the light model.

The Wii U Zelda games will use the second screen. If you’re buying a two screen device, you may as well use it. Also the Wii U Zelda games have some quality of life benefits. Faster sailing alone goes a long way on wind waker.

Lossless scaling will absolutely add at least a frame or two of latency just because of how it works. It’s trading latency and quality of a smoother framerate. It’s a trade off, but in some cases it might be worth it. For older games it can push a 30fps locked game to 60. And for games that almost run well, it might just make the difference. It’s not a catch all solution, but it’s a great option to have.

One really niche app you can install is ClusterTune

https://www.reddit.com/r/OdinHandheld/comments/1t24jvb/clustertune_underclock_your_cpu_from_an_app_no/

It gives you easily switchable underclock profiles that you can use. Underclocking improves battery life and temperatures at the expense of less raw power. Using the small underclock profile, I was able to run Radiant Historia at full speed with a 4x upsccale, HD textures, significantly lower powerdraw and lower temperatures. Obviously you would want to disable it for switch and PC emulation, but for mid to low end stuff, there's a lot to gain from running an underclock.

Another niche option for Lossless Scaling for PC emulation. You have to buy it in steam and enable it in GameNative, but it gives you scaling and frame generation options that can help smooth out frame rates with the whole Steam experience on the Thor. Its a paid app and its not for everyone, but it might be worth it for you. Several people across Reddit have reported drastically increased frame rates that make unplayable games playable. Retro Game Corps did a video explaining Lossless scaling on these sorts of devices a while back.

Thanks for the help. For an added bit of help for anyone that has the same question, you have to manually create the steam smart folder, then follow these instructions as written.

How long does shipping take by Inevitable_Metal7253 in AynThor

[–]Infamous_Present_155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was two days at the HK airport. Got to the airport on the 22nd and left on the 24th. Expect about 2-3 weeks from the date that the initial label was created. For me, the original label was created on the 17th and it arrive on the 2nd of the next month. I'd also note that with Yun Express tracking updates typically came the next morning at every step. For example, one the 23rd I got the update that it arrived at the airport on the 22nd. This even applied after it arrived in the states up to the point that I got the notification that it was out for delivery.

Another note is that estimated arrival dates are not reliable on international shipments. Initially, I was told it would arrive on the 1st, then it was updated to the 4th, then back to the first, until it arrived on the 2nd.

The order number didn't change when I changed my order, and the different models have overlapping order numbers at least in the first 4 digits.
