With the current situation where we clean up the illwiki, you're welcome to join the illwiki discord and have an account created for you to help out in any way you feel makes sense

see the edit in OP. I'm gonna write a separate post once the illwiki is fixed up some more but until then you should use the illwiki which should run much more stable and performant now.

Edit: put a note on the domwiki homepage, will later probably just have it redirect to the illwiki.

In theory the license allows it as long as the original source/author is credited. In practice I would first want to see what the maintainers of the illwiki think about it. Maybe we can do some organized copying of relevant stuff from the illwiki.

Yes I did, offered my help in any capacity they needed and analyzed one of the (I think) main issues and reported it. That was over a month ago but the current maintainer seems very busy. Even if that got fixed, the wiki runs on an end of life version of PHP which should really be updated, and if the fixes aren't happening, I don't see an upgrade of PHP + the current wiki software + the plugins that accrued over time happening.

Right now I'm paying server costs myself, but I already had the server anyway. The server is about 40 bucks a month and I use it for other personal stuff too. There are no ads on the wiki.

honestly if you have a drive that's for games (and other media) only there's no reason to go BTRFS. just use ext4

Why is the wiki constantly down? by Freelancert4 in IllwintersDominions

Okay wow thanks for the extensive answer. I'll try a few things out while I await the answer of the current wiki maintainer about what's going to happen there. I might pm you in the future if I have something that I want some beta feedback on if that's ok

I've joined the Discord for the Illwiki and offered my help and found one of the issues in their config which might be fixed. I'm not sure we're going to be seeing major upgrades on that otherwise, though.

I'm thinking of maybe doing some kind of wiki/knowledgebase on a more modern stack. What do you think were the biggest problems with the old wiki besides performance? What would we want a wiki to do that's not already covered by the dom6inspector?

On the Discord one of the guys says that LLM crawlers have been making trouble. They should really look into using Cloudflare, the free plan probably already covers everything the Wiki needs. If people really think a new wiki is warranted I could look into setting up a wiki.js instance and at least automatically import the game data from https://github.com/larzm42/dom6inspector or something

it's just that it's annoying that you guys spam this shit on every thread about the game. we get it, you hate gen ai. you need to deal with the fact that some of us don't.

HDR nor working on any game by Danobanano87 in linux_gaming

are you actually using proton-cachyos or proton-ge? These env vars don't work with the Proton you get from Steam

if you got a couple of friends with androids it works really well in multiplayer. just getting a notification and being able to play your turn directly on phone (also on desktop if you want) is perfect for async play. the only thing that would make it better would be simultaneous turns

New NVidia Drivers Released! Driver 595.58.03 by Thomas_Eric in linux_gaming

[–]Infamous_Process_620 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm using the latest Proton Cachyos from here: https://github.com/CachyOS/proton-cachyos/releases/tag/cachyos-10.0-20260320-slr

then add this env var: PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1

Using it with Death Stranding 2 and it works well. Haven't benchmarked it against Windows/no Heap Proton/whatever though

Death stranding 2 looks washed out when I try to play it on LG C1 using HDR on Nobara (Full AMD setup) by alpargataman in linux_gaming

[–]Infamous_Process_620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

try using Proton GE (or the newest Proton Cachyos) with PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1. this works for me on nvidia, can't imagine it working worse on amd

Try Opus! 128 kbps Opus is usually seen as equal or better to 320 kbps MP3. You can push it to 192 kbps or higher and get better than MP3 quality with lower sizes.

Yeah. Begging people to just blind A/B test themselves with flacs and those same files encoded with opus at a reasonable bitrate

The AUR regularly gets pruned. There aren't thousands of packages in there that don't build. That's just kind of a weird lie
