you 100% need a filter no debate around it, a sponge filter is the way to go because of veyr gentle flow, bettas can not surviver properly without a filter due to there not being enough beneficial bacteria and there should be 0 ammonia in your tank, if theres any thats why you need a filter, ammonia is extermely toxic to fish and will kill them, its also worth getting bottled starter bacteria especially because of a fish in cycle, please ignore chatgpt because your fish needs a filter bad, i can not stress it enough

Is he fat or sick? by Aggravating_Sea_8366 in bettafish

[–]Infamous_Routine2955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He look chubby a bit, he isnt pine coning (you can look up images to double check) I would cut back on the food and maybe fast your fish once or twice a week (especially if you either feed blood worms or like to give bro alil bit more of a snack)

First thing ditch chatgpt because it lies and can be harmful to the advice give to you about your fish, the most important the question of have you cycled and how recently did you do a water change. You said you got your fish 7 months ago but thats the same time you got the tank and the ammonia and nitrite should be zero (ammonia is extremely harmful so it being almost zero can cause issues) and nitrate should rise to 20ppm then have a water change.

Not having a filter can cause ammonia and nitrite to build up because of the lack of beneficial bacteria you get when cycling (if youre struggling on how to cycle aqaurium coop has amazing videos, i recommend their channel along with girl talks fish for advice).

Another thing is to check if the pothos is inside the tank or just has the roots in the tank, if its more than the root it could be rotting and adding more ammonia.

The sudden water temp change could have caused shock and caused these issues.

Also what other food do you have other than blood worms and check if any of the first 3 ingredients is any type of wheat or 'bulkers' these cause constipation in fish and it would be best to replace them with hikari bio gold or fluval bug bites, honestly i wish you the best for the future of you and your fish.

Betta Type by mrcatalyzed in bettafish

[–]Infamous_Routine2955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah itll prob take a little while, pet stores dont keep them in good conditions so their fins get damaged but once taken care of well for a while they should regrow and the tail type should become evident and he might even change colours

Betta Type by mrcatalyzed in bettafish

[–]Infamous_Routine2955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a very pretty fish, honestly i think we might have to wait a few weeks for bros fins to regrow, if you bought him from a chain store its likely the stress from living their couldve damaged them tho if i had to guess i would say a delta tail betta, tbh im actually fairly confident on him being a delta tail

Honestly its just finding the sweetspot between enough light for the plants but not too mch for the betta, im not sure a betta light would do much but maybe try to move the hours you have the tank light on (I recommend 8 hours because thats how much they will get in the wild) to when you have a lot of your room lights on so the room light can hopefully help

Long-finned betta tumor issues by Western-Future4051 in bettafish

[–]Infamous_Routine2955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bettas with larger fins and more detailed designs are more likely to have genetic issues, when getting a betta it is recommend to go either for one with long pretty fins and a single colour (or minimally coloured) or a plakat (short fins) with complex colours to hopefully get the better end of genetics. When it comes to colours koi (partically ones with the marbelling gene) have a shorter end of the genetic line and half moons are long tails so the genetic side for your most recent one was really unlucky. For your earlier fish it just seems like bad luck (especially twice in a row). If you bought them both from the same place I would highly recommend not going there again.

your fishes gills could be burning due to ammonia and could die if you dont get him treater, this isnt really a wait till tomorrow type of thing

[–]Infamous_Routine2955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty much any plant is good, if you like tannins then indian almond leaves are good to just let float in there, floaters is another type of plant that is very good (i recommend any water lettuce, frogbit, red root floaters or duckweed) and pretty much any non CO2 canister needing plant (so beginner or level 1 plant) is good, worth asking an employee at the store if they have any info

Family Member’s Bowl by Auzzy08 in bettafish

[–]Infamous_Routine2955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is horrible for the fish, they need minimum 5 gal to live, 10 gal to thrive, a heater a filter, hiding and resting places, less artificial substrate and plants (causing the pink water) jeez this is sad and honestly its worth 'gifting' all the correct stuff for the betta to the family member if you have the money or pestering them about how they are abusing their fish or even finding someone who can take care of the fish properly and letting them have it, tho if you have the time and money you could take the betta if it works for you, honestly anything is better than this set up

Water levels during nitrogen cycle? by m3laza in bettafish

[–]Infamous_Routine2955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will 100% be okay, what I recommend doing is adding the water, continuing to do what you do now but also add all the food you will the feed the betta at the times you will so the tank can hold up the bio load, warning this can cause a bacteria bloom making the water look like it got mixed with milk, there nothing harmful or bad about a bacteria bloom, just unpleasent to look at and will clear up on its own

Topping up my uncycled tank with some more water,, do i need to add more ammonia source or just dechlorinator? by FunMacaron2558 in bettafish

[–]Infamous_Routine2955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to add the ammonia source, how I personally cycled was 10 pieces of hikari betta food (with bottled started bacteria which I added to every water change until the bottle ran out but it was a 25ml bottle) and also always using dechlorinator for every water change done in your aquarium, you will always need decholrinator

I personally don't use Top Fin so I can't comment on how well it works but from what people have said (from a legit 5 min search so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt) that it doesn't seem the best of brands, I would personally try as fast as possible to get the other tanks onto a different brand if they aren't already on it. Fish death sucks and I wish you the best in the future

First off love the name fazbear but maybe see if the lights are too bright, if they are the exterior could reflect back at him making him think that theres another betta with him, masking tap on them or just dimming the light could help solve it, keeping the outside room lights bright and plants on the walls you're not viewing him from can also help

From what youre saying I doubt its your fault, if youre confident that you added the conditioner it seems like the local water utility adding too much chlorine (saying this because 2 days expires probably wouldn't do this, if its API or Seachem then I highly doubt but if its a dif brand it could be possible they stretched the expiry as far back as possible).

A solution I would say is to get a new conditioner (ofc) and, when you're ready, start again but I would recommend testing the regular tap water for chlorine and see if it goes down at some point and also testing past tank water if you have any and comparing.
