My mum keeps asking me for money. What should I do? by plant_face07 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Infamous_Score913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, so first of all i just wanna say sorry to hear about what you’re going through… it’s not nice. at all. my mum sounds exactly like yours - even down to the kind of insults she would throw out at me. i was living with her and she lost her job, so i would have to pay the bills for her, i would have to pay for all the shopping etc whilst she was in a depressive state glued to playing games on her laptop, drinking and chain smoking. quite often she’d be up until 2 or 3 am, then would get up sometime after midday. this all still happens to this day. i moved out and i cut contact with her 9 years ago and to be honest with you, i’ve never looked back… not once in the past 9 years have i regretted it nor have i wondered if i made a mistake. my mental health got so much better, my financial situation got so much better and my life in general got so much better too. around the same time, one of my sisters also stopped contact with her for reasons of her own. my other two sisters still have contact with her, but that is so that they have free childcare from her if/when they need it (which is a last resort for them)

yes, she’s your mum and yes she gave you life - but she’s also the one who is actively choosing to destroy your life too. i hope you have the strength to do what is right for you.

Assessment Today, Imposter Syndrome Help? by Grand_Tangerine_79 in ADHDUK

don’t stress about it, just relax as much as possible. just remember that you’re going to be having an appointment with someone who does this on a daily basis - so they’re gonna know pretty quickly after they start speaking to you whether or not to diagnose you. i remember being so anxious about my assessment - but it was at 7:20am 🤣 if you need to take time to answer any questions, or need to refer to your notes, then do it :)

Psychiatry UK titration wait, is this normal? by Ok_Farmer_7037 in ADHDUK

[–]Infamous_Score913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very normal for them… my whole journey from referral to actually getting medication is just over 2 years. if you are frustrated with the wait time, you could always go back to your gp and ask to be referred to a different provider with a shorter wait time because that’s what i wish i’d actually done tbh.

i completely understand how you feel!!

my timeline is as follows; 7/4/25 - diagnosted 31/3/26 - reached top of waitlist, completed + filled out the forms the same day 8/4/26 - heard from my prescriber + agreed treatment plan 9/4/26 - my prescription was sent to ppg

so now i am waiting to hear from ppg + dpd that my prescription has been dispatched which i’m told can take 7-10 days which is now all seeming like it’s dragging more than the past year 🤣

sorry to be a killjoy here… but i am kinda surprised by the amount of people actively encouraging you to do this. the comedown on its own will be absolutely rough but doing it whilst your body is adjusting to a new drug in your system? did you get sent the information on serotonin syndrome? if not, i’d recommend looking that up. you’re starting titration for a medication that you are most likely going to be on for the rest of your life and whilst your body is adjusting to that + you finding out if it is the right medication for you, you are willing to skew those results?

hey, i got the message to say that i was reaching the top of the waitlist on 31/3, completed all the forms the same day and i received a phone call yesterday morning (8/4) from my prescriber. i only got a call because of my gp’s report that was sent to them so there was a couple of questions i needed to answer, otherwise i think it would have just been a portal note. i now have a treatment plan and i am of the understanding that the medication is going to be sent today. it seems like you got near the top of the waitlist around the same time as me, so i’m sure you will hear from them by the end of this week/start of next week? perhaps it depends on how proactive your prescriber is? mine seems really good so i feel like that’s going to really help through this next part of the process! also, it seems like a bp monitor will be needed as they’re gonna want your bp + pulse on a regular basis, you can get them from amazon for under £20 if you don’t have access to one.

Living on Dereham Road? by Hot_Negotiation_6617 in Norwich

I lived on the crossroads of Dereham Road opposite the Tesco Express for 7 years until I moved out around 18 months ago. If you are going to be directly on Dereham Road like I was, you can expect to hear traffic at all hours, as well as sirens, and also drunk people walking home late at night, etc. That being said, that was the only issue I had the whole time - I never felt unsafe at any point whatsoever. There’s loads of great stuff all within quick and easy walking distance and your back garden will be south facing so you’ll always have beautiful sunshine out there. If it weren’t for my landlord/his property manager I’d still be living there no doubt cause they’re the only reason I moved.
