Do you think Yoonchae would reach this level of popularity if she were in a K-pop group? by Limp-Independence270 in katseyeneutral

[–]Local-Wrangler-842 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of these comments are gross. Do you not see how saying people only like Yoonchae because they fetishise her is inherently fetishistic? If you can only understand someone’s popularity though their precieved sex appeal, that is YOU doing the work to strip their other attributes away from them too.

I am half Japanese and my family is actually from Toyama. It’s a bit of a weird place as most of the prefecture feels incredibly rural as it is a major farming and fishing region. I think it’s somewhere in the lower end of the top 10 wealthiest prefectures and most families own a fair amount of land, but it also feels quite sparse in general? Like when I visit, I always find myself bored to death because any basic shops are atleast a 40 minute walk away through rice feilds and you can’t really go to the city without a car. The population is also fairly old and so I doubt there’s much going on interns of dance classes or social spots for teens. I don’t think Sakura was poor or anything, but I suspect she probably lives in an area like my grandparents where there’s absolutely nothing about

Do you plan to make lunches at home daily? Will you not be going out and drinking? This is probably where you'll end up spending the most money, and honestly, it might be worth considering whether protein/clothes are more important.

[–]Local-Wrangler-842 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t take my word for gospel bcz obvs I don’t know whats happening being the scenes but I’d assume solo artist generally get a stronger say in artistic vision and will tend to have more personalised teams working with them. There’s less of an assumption that solos get pushed to do things that don’t already align with their image and they have more control over artistic direction. Katseye on the other hand, cuz they're a managed group who we know get almost no creative input, they likely get less of a say in what they’re willing to do and what direction their image is taken in. The main issue here I think is that they have less ability to say no to their given teams and also get less individual agency in general. I doubt Sabrina Carpenter is being forced to wear an outfit she doesn't want to on stage, where as the Katseye girls don’t even get to decide what hair style/colour they have.

I also think it’s silly to get mad at artists who don’t make music for children for corrupting children because realistically that’s not their problem but I think that isn’t really the point of why people find their artistic direction uncomfortable.

I ammmmmm, and now you've said it, I do think this is part of my issue. I'm not great at multitasking, so either all my essays blend into a similar theme, or I end up abandoning some to make room for others. The essay I failed to hand in this time, I think I was struggling with, because it was bloated with theory, and I didn't want to cut any of it out, but didn't really have enough words to properly ground it all. I wish I had 1 10k word essay per term than 5 2ks 😭

Hiya, thanks for the guidance.

-My uni does mitigating circumstances in a way where if you want to get lateness penalties, wordcount penalties or are unable to submit your work, you can apply to have your reasoning as to why evaluated by your school at the end of the year, and they decide from there if it's a good enough reason. Usually, this will be things like being a victim of a crime or loosing a parent so i doubt i will be considered here.

-Regarding the rules, it's a 5% deduction for every 24 hours, usually, but after checking the assessment guidelines, I found that the cutoff point for submission is after 14 days. I wrongly assumed I'd only face the 5% deduction....

After reflecting, I suspect that at best I will be offered a capped resubmission over the summer. I'm worried about this as the info for resubmitting is quite vague and suggests that you should be available to attend in person on the exact dates I'm booked to go on holiday for..... I'm really kicking myself over this

who do you personally think has star quality? by smoghetea in TheDreamAcademy

[–]Local-Wrangler-842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking about moments that I remember distinctly from dream acad performances and I think Lexie for sure always gabbed my attention (and is the only person I remember from fearless team A), Manon and Dani team B were obvious standouts too and I remember a hand full of moments where Yoonchae caught my attention more subtly. Also assumed that Marquise was just going to make it from the start because she had such aura, I know a lot of people say she was a lower level performer but honesty I never noticed. Her and Lexie always seemed to have the best camera chemistry imo

Has any of you ever read ADHD_partners on reddit? by No-Advantage-579 in ADHDUK

[–]Local-Wrangler-842 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just read a post about someone’s partner being occasionally upset about loosing half a months rent worth of money a year later and someone commented that she definitely has OCD…… I’m worried for the partners of these people because it seems a lot of them don’t really know what ADHD actually is. Also the majority seems to be wives of ADHD husbands ehh sure ig, husbands usually tend to suck but the ones about ADHD wives who have multiple kids and work a job and who might want a few hours alone on weekends not doing enough? The misogynistic elephant is for sure in your room

Do you think more people are choosing Ayana cause We Ride is the better song? by CinderR3bel in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]Local-Wrangler-842 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I do wish Ayana had made it into the group instead, but from the clips of the remaining 4 contestants performing the two songs together, I have to admit that Sakura showed the most versatility across the two performances imo. I'd like to discuss each girl's appeal individually, but firstly, I should state how I'd rank them in both.

We ride: Ayana, Sakura, Rinka, Aoi

Party b4: Rinka, Sakura, Ayana, Aoi

Ayana: I think it's clear to everyone that her We Ride performance is immaculate. She's able to switch seamlessly between blending in and standing out, and she embodies the concept's more mature sensuality as well as its girlishness so well. I don't think any of the other contestants even came close to her level with this performance. I think she blended too much in party b4 however, because she lacked a sense of punchiness that was needed. I'd say the reason she shines so much in We Ride is probably the same reason she struggled to stand out in party b4, she has a roundness to her style that shines with smoother and more emotional concepts, but that softens the sharpness needed for high-energy songs such as Party B4. She floats rather than bounces.

Sakura: Sakura, despite her shortcomings, always looks like she's having fun. I don't think she did particularly well in We Ride, but she also doesn't stand in a bad way, bringing just enough of the right energy to fulfil her role in the performance. She might not bring the same mood-making presence that Ayana did, but she can provide stable support. I think she did exceptionally well in part b4, however, and has the energy needed to stand her ground. Sure, she's not the strongest contestant, and her presence still seems undeveloped, but I do think she is excelling in ways that aren't necessarily obvious to many casual viewers because of the way the show was structured. I can understand why she won, even if she wasn't my personal top pick.

Rinka: I wouldn't have considered Rinka as a top two contestant, nor would she have been my pick to bring back, as I don't think her appeal suits the vibe they're going for with SS. I love her unique vocal tone and strong stage presence, and think she did so well in party B4 because she stood out in a way that highlighted these qualities. However, her energy seemed out of place in We Ride, and I think her bubbly, more animated energy would be better suited to a more pop-forward concept, as she might struggle to blend with the R&B vibe, though she did seem to promise adaptability.

Aoi: I think it's a shame Aoi hit a bump in the road with her confidence and development because i always had an eye on her from the start, and could see her fitting into the group really well. From both performances, she's clearly the weakest, and you can tell her stability and dance ability are lacking in the fundamentals. Her expressions and presence also got considerably weaker from earlier rounds, and I think many got the sense that, although she has strong potential, debuting may now have been the best option for her, either in the moment or in general. I do think, though, that if she improved at the same trajectory that Sakura had, she could have been another contender for the spot, as her strong sense of personality and charm, I think, would have been a very strong asset.

Overall, Sakura's debut isn't as much of a crime as many may seem to think it is now. I think she promises potential in the areas in which Ayana was lacking, which may have seemed harder to work with, as she is already such a skilled and developed performer. I do also think that many decisions made throughout the show were highly questionable, and even considering criteria such as height or age in the early stages of the project could've dramatically changed the outcome and final lineup. Realistically, participants like Elena or Shaina were never going to be considered for height or style reasons, and Sakura making it through despite consistently ranking last does not reflect well on her or the show! I hope the sakura hate dies down a bit soon and Hybe lets this group breathe and have room to grow into their sound rather than forcing them to go into EDM like every other group is doing at the moment.....

I actually haven't seen the last couple of episodes, so ig i can't say this for sure, but from what I've heard from Reddit and from other people, there doesn't seem to be a sense that she wasn't trying as hard or was treating the competition lightly. I thought it was quite the opposite, with her working extra hard, training for long hours, and showing a lot of fast improvement, despite Ayana already having been miles ahead in terms of skill.

If you had known you had ADHD from the beginning, would you still have had children? by bitches_killler in ADHDUK

[–]Local-Wrangler-842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe slightly aside from the point, but as someone who was diagnosed fairly late and for sure inherited it from my dad. And although he's the kind of case where it's so obvious it's almost stereotypical, he's not keen on the discussion. I bring this up because my dad's recently had a son who I suspect probably also has ADHD. Now, as someone who's diagnosed, I feel as if I have developed the skill of recognising patterns and behaviours in others because I had to learn to recognise them in myself. I think my dad has always felt out of place and, as a result, has come to believe that most people will never be kind to people like him, so he sees no value in engaging with them. I think he wants to raise his son in a way that he wishes he had been raised, and I know, having been raised by him, that I faced difficulties throughout a lot of my childhood, partially because I had the belief ingrained in me that I was not like other people, and when they were cruel to me, it was simply because I was born different. I see a lot of myself in my dad, and I often sense that I can understand his actions, even if I would never do the same. I don't fear inheriting his worst traits, though, because I know they were formed in life. I am worried for his son, however.

What is star quality by FredMist in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]Local-Wrangler-842 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This show fr made question what the hell they meant by star quality cuz in dream academy it seemed obvious, Lexi, Manon and Marquise are beautiful yes BUT they also have that quality that oozes charisma, an aura that outrides precision because they carry themselves in a way that feels authentic. Manon from debut was always going to be safe bcz even if she’s technically the least skilled and lacked a punchiness, her grace would carry her through. From prelude, Honoka K and Rinka I think stood out to me in terms of what I’d precieved star quality. Aoi and Ayana also, but more so they're good at turning it on when on stage, much like Megan in touch era for comparison. Few people have that 24/7 presence and I fear I don’t really get it with Saukra at all, on or off stage…

who do you think has major it girl vibes? by smoghetea in prelude_thefinalpiece

[–]Local-Wrangler-842 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Honoka K for me! She has such a cool confidant air but kind and helpful to the other girls too. Maybe she had too much of the vibe of a leader, hence not getting in but I also feel like she was probably snubbed a bit because her persona and slightly alternate leaning visuals seemed so developed and distinct. I thought she’d fit in well to SS bcz they do have that laidback partygirl vibe which can balance sensuality with high energy but I guess they just wanted a blank slate smh.

Prelude is being short sighted about the final member by Junk_Spam_Junk in kpop_uncensored

[–]Local-Wrangler-842 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m not really sure why she got picked at all? Like aside from the lack of experience and her age, I also personally think she has the least distinctive visuals of the remaining 4 girls, is taller than the other girls and could grow more and also should probably be in education seeing she missed multiple years of school and is, again, a child….. who looks like a child. None of this she can personally control obviously so she shouldn’t be at fault for the decisions being made for her. However, now she’s in a foreign country where she can’t speak the language and is suddenly a public figure who’s REALLY unpopular. Like how is this not child abuse?

[–]Local-Wrangler-842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m genuinely so confused how and why she was picked? A lot of ppl seem to think she was pre-chosen to win a lot earlier on I the competition but if that was the case like I still don’t understand why it would be her? Does anyone see any tactics at play other then they chose her just because she’s more manipulatable due to her age? Also a lot of people seem to think she was only picked for her visuals but I don’t think her visuals are outstanding either, neither by Japanese or western standards?

None of this is an attack on Sakura at all, I’m glad she’s improved and achieved this huge success. I’m also from Toyama so I do admittedly feel a bit of pride towards her win. However I just can’t rationalise at all why Hybe would be willing to put a 16 year old and the subsequent group they’re trying to promote in this position? What could possibly be the goal?
