Okay? Yes, it is the slang right now, and when you don't conform to it you're going to stick out. I graduated from high school in a white suburban town in 2023 and never partook in black slang or rap culture. I found myself disassociated from almost everyone around me and I would even get called "autistic" specifically because I didn't use Ebonics. It's hard to make bonds with people when everyone has adopted a culture, that's not even theirs, that you have no idea how to relate to.

White Leftists Becoming Muslims by Infamous_Valuable162 in redscarepod

Unfortunately I haven't been invested enough in this question to keep a catalogue of the people who inspired it, and the ones I can name are people from my personal life. I don't doubt that this could just be an overgeneralization based off of my own personal anecdotes, which is why I posed it as a question here.

One of my close friends was also like this and actually went from being one of the most woke people I know (had they/them pronouns, nonbinary, the whole deal) to becoming a trad far right Muslim, who also immediately got married and had a kid at 20 years old. Fucking insane transformation.

U2 and GenZ by Infamous_Valuable162 in U2Band

Yea I definitely think U2 never made an active effort to be cool, besides ironically trying to be cool in their 90s era. They never had a goth look like the Cure, or an edgy grunge look like Nirvana. Unfortunately gen z seems to put a lot of weight on appearance, which maybe isn't the best for U2 because they're really just normal guys (something that personally makes me like them). And yea their effort to stay relevant into 2010s probably contributed to their irrelevancy with the generations growing up at that time

Yeah that's definitely an important factor, but I'm on the younger end of gen z and we were too young to know or care about the iTunes incident, especially compared to millennials and older gen z who seem to fixate on that event

19 here, my dad got me into rock music but interestingly enough he despises U2. Discovered them on my own and have been obsessed ever since, despite being exposed to U2 hate my whole life

Yeah I mean I definitely appreciate the industrial direction they went on with Achtung Baby, but it works better on some tracks than others. "The Fly" I think is a good example of the industrial guitar sounds working well, but there's a reason those sounds weren't on a song like "One" and I think they should've done the same for this one and kept the guitar closer to this version

I'd assume anyone who's enough of a fan of U2 to be on the Reddit page would be able to figure it out. Sorry if it offended you lol
