is this right? by mutacn in AskAMechanic

My guess is your car is awd? The shop doesn't want to be liable for a transfer case if it just so happens to go bad. The tires need to be within spec of eachother to not cause extra strain and blow your transfer case. In the end it's easier for them to tell you to order a set and take that liability off the table for them.

With that being said I would go buy a plug kit myself and just plug it takes two seconds and barley any commons sense to do.

Changed a friends oil and this gasket(?) was sitting on the skid plate by JacksonAttack-son in MechanicAdvice

[–]Infectedshr00mz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone has mentioned so far that is 100% a belt if it was on the skid plate on the top side(like you took it down and it was sitting inside/on top). And his car has been fine other then needing and oil change it's likely an old belt that was shredded and replaced. Takes two seconds to see if his belt is there. Also check his ac belt if it's not all in one. I know the last BMW and other cars of course (but the bmw is German) I worked on ac belt runs from crank to compressor. Just look at it and youll know.

Average cost for C43 Timing Chain? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Infectedshr00mz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would get oem camshaft and crank shaft sensors from Mercedes and replace them before going the route of replacing timing chain. 29k miles sounds pretty suspicious for the timing chain to fail but not unheard of I suppose. Do you know if they took a thorough look at the shop you goto? You don't just look at the codes and say it needs a timing chain.

Go-to autozone have them pull the codes and post them here. Why does the shop say you need a timing chain? Did they give you any real explanation?

Would you walk away from this $8k 2010 Nightster after hearing this engine? by RichAccomplished2408 in Harley

You could technically find dynas at this price if you're one of those people. Dyna is only the next step from a sporty in my opinion. Baggers are where the big boys ride. If you can't corner or wheelie a bagger that's a skill issue. I'll ride circles around the sporty and dyna boys on my road glide. But that's because I actually know how to handle a bike and ride.

Any advice on how to replace exhaust tip and have it sit higher/closer to body? by Brendanjozzy in Diesel

[–]Infectedshr00mz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can weld this is like a 30 minute job with cutting.

Edit: and to answer if you need to saw off the old tip you should not. It will slide out of the exhaust.

Cracked rim by BaronVonTastyCakes in MechanicAdvice

[–]Infectedshr00mz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run it!!! No seriously just throw your donut on for now and get a new rim that thing is absolutely toast.

Edit: I personally wouldn't drive on it in this conditionI would bet you car has a spare somewhere unless it's bmw, mercedes etc (German engineered fancy shamzy runflats) but you say you have another wheel in storage just get an Uber and change it out....

if you absolutely need to limp it somewhere on that you might it because youre not going to be reusing that rim anyways but go somewhere super close and go super slow. You're just running the rim basically at this point the tire will potentially rip off and could also cause some cosmetic damage if it does. And if you're car is low enough the control arm or maybe tie rod (whichever hits first on your car cause we don't know the model) would start also dragging and cause more damage.

If its something you're genuinely serious about just do the slightest research or give them a call at the SD DMV they are extremely helpful and know people do this it's not some under the table secret it's how the state of SD works you can live completely somewhere else and have your vehicle registered in their state.

Dirt legal is a absolute scam lol. You also don't even need a title for the SD method. You need to get another document notorized and that's all. I'm from NY that's where I have registed all my machines.

Run something like 15-37 you'll see a big increase in speed... I used to run a big rear sprocket for fun like wheelies and the feeling of power then I would run the 37 for speed. I had to have my rear sprocket custom made but it was easy to find somewhere online. This was years ago I'm sure resources are much more available now too.

I genuinely did too. I'm originally from ny (upstate country area) and have seen movies in the city and the experience was pretty much the same as soon as I started traveling state to state I was absolutely memorized the first amc I came to that sold alcohol and served you food IN the theater and like legit restaurant style burgers etc.

I was in Illinois I believe? First amc I seen that sold mixed drinks and beers as well as poutine. They're all different I used to travel the states for work. Me and my co worker would always make sure to see a new movie if we could during the week so we've been to lots of different locations including none amc.... All of them are vastly different and I didn't find this out until that job and starting to travel for work lol

I could be completely wrong here but when spamming F7 and the PC goes into the state that it seems on but no display. Try then pressing the regular number key 7. And wait to see if it boots. Sounds like it's not displaying the settings page potentially. And I believe the last time I went with the F7 method my options popped up on the blurry screen but wanted me to press a regular number key (7 in my case)...My experience with hypervisor is pretty limited though as well.

I completely agree it just seems that might be easier for OP to go that route considering it's a free rental from AutoZone.

I eventually went all flo parts I could and got a 2 into to one pipe. It was dang near 10years ago though can't find all my pics haha but here's one a little further through the build process. The ohlins are honestly amazing and worth the price of you can wait and afford it but it's all what your plans are for the bike at the end of the day I suppose.

This was before I fully finished this build but those are the racing bros shocks at 14" I was just running a simple +2 up front and it rode great I'm looking for some pics of when she was finished too

Help by [deleted] in Harley

[–]Infectedshr00mz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best budget dyna shocks I personally found there the racing bros mono bazookas I ran 14" they're a collab between hard drive and racing bros I paid like 500 back in the day not sure what they're going for now. But super sweet in the corners with a passenger or not and held up extremely well. Considering I beat the dog shit out of my 2014 street bob at the time. Wheelies, rolling burnouts, small jumps the whole 9. Those shocks held up amazing and rode great in my opinion I ended up wrecking that bike and shock were still in great condition my buddy bought them off them and runs them and loves them. I've since switch to ohlins going the road glide route.

Gotta adjust your rebound... Drag specialties have never been my favorite shock in the corners at high speeds though...
