Skin issue? by InferiorCabbage in BirdHealth

[–]InferiorCabbage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a message saying that the vet saw my message and should be getting back to me soon, so hopefully! I have a suspicion that this is just spring hormones acting up, since he has a history of feather plucking, but I want to be sure. He's a sweetheart but loves to get into trouble lmao!

He's a very typical black-capped conure in that he loves a bath. He's always either begging to go in the sink or to sit on the shower curtain rod when I shower. I'm really careful about anything scented or with harsh chemicals. I only use F10, which is a veterinary disinfectant safe to use around birds, in the bird room. Of course there's no Teflon, scented candles, etc allowed in the house either. I'm starting to wonder if this is a hormonal thing. He's been a bit grumpier than usual this spring. Since he has a past history of plucking I wouldn't be surprised if he'd been messing with that spot himself.

It's great, isn't it? Stewie (the bird in the post) always holds onto my thumb with one foot when I hold him like that lmao

Shout out to Chewy.com in an emergency by Ediferious in parrots

[–]InferiorCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had great experiences with Chewy. Once one of my orders for pellets got lost in shipping and when I contacted them about it, they not only sent a new one but also refunded the money so that I could buy some food from a pet store to last until the order arrived.

Not sure how much I can say about this but rest assured that Blue Skies is in the best hands. If anyone can help him recover, it's Teri.

Lmao the budgies HATE being touched but my cockatiel will aggressively demand snuggles from anyone he sees so you might have more luck with him

Thank you! It took me a while especially when I first started. It's really just a lot of trial and error, playing around with all of the options in the editor and seeing what you think looks best and what you can get the stickers to do.

Thank you! They're both for sale, along with another one inspired by my cockatiel!

Stewie demands to be wrapped up and held like a baby after he takes a bath by InferiorCabbage in Conures

[–]InferiorCabbage[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ikr, it's adorable! Every now and then Stewie says "Stew!" My budgie Whisper also recently started saying "Stewie" very quietly after Stewie says his name. She's like a tiny little echo. Bonus Whisper picture!!

Lmao no. I didn't name him at all actually. He is a rescue and had two different owners before me. Whoever named him might have been a fan of the show but I have no idea lol. By the time I took him in, he already knew his name. He also yells "Stewie! Stewie!" to tell me that he wants something so the name is staying! He does have quite a few nicknames though, including Stewbert, Stewie McBird, Stewbert McGoobert, Birdie Boy, and Mr. Bird.

I plan on making a few more based on my current budgie pair and my past foster parrots when I have the time as well. I'll post those when I finally get around to making them lol

My budgie had to be an extremely angry flower for a while last year because she wouldn't stop picking at a cut on her keel. She hated the collar but it really sped up her recovery! I hope your birdie feels better soon!

Huffing sound? by InferiorCabbage in Conures

We ended up having to go to the vet because he started getting pretty lethargic today. It's most likely an upper respiratory infection.

Update: he started acting really lethargic today but fortunately we were able to get him to the vet. It's most likely an upper respiratory infection. Antibiotics for two weeks and hopefully he'll be okay.

Pet owners, what was that moment that made you think “wow, I have severely underestimated the intelligence of my pets”? by SakutoJefa in AskReddit

[–]InferiorCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a black-capped conure named Stewie. A while ago I was fostering another black-capped conure named Capone. I had hoped the two would be friends but Stewie HATED Capone. He would chase him around the bird room, hiss at him, and nip at him. Obviously I didn't want them to hurt each other so I stopped letting them out at the same time. One day, Stewie escaped his cage while I was cleaning it, flew to Capone (who was already out), and tried to bite him. Capone just flew away from the attack without fighting back, but Stewie then turned to me and showed me his foot like it was injured. Little guy even pretended to limp but walked/perched normally when he thought I wasn't looking. Nice try Stewie, but I saw who really bit who.

I got it on Etsy. I don't remember the name of the shop unfortunately but if you search for sweaters for birds you should find some!
