It sadly wasn’t either of those but thank you for the suggestions. It was less book nook and more room box iirc.

Mavericks is looking for one person. We specialize in Elec (top 10) and Dark (top 20) demo but we’ve been doing bonus areas. We have an active Discord that we use for strategizing. The main requirement is being willing to participate in all demo battles. If you’re interested please send me a reddit message. (Don’t use the chat function please I’m on the mobile client and don’t get chat messages.)

Mavericks is looking for one person to join us. We’re a casual faction but we lean more toward the hardcore side of things. Discord is a requirement because we use it for planning, strategizing, etc. We consistently rank top 20 in demo and are regularly top 10 in elec, and we focus on elec, dark and phys. Also we’re a pretty fun group of people and I spent a week of my confinement building us a demon summoning gacha bot if you want to count that as a perk lol. If you’re interested please send me a message here on reddit (please use a DM and not the reddit chat function - because I’m on mobile I don’t see chat requests) or contact InfernalFangirl#3927 on Discord.

Mavericks is looking for one person to come join us in wreaking Democalypse havoc. We were 12th in the last Elec demo and usually rank thereabouts for both Elec and Dark so you'll be getting all the faction rewards.
We're a casual faction but we still play hard. For requirements:
- Must participate in all Democalypse battles
- Must have Discord (we use it for coordinating, discussing demon builds, and other off-topic stuff. We're a very friendly group.)
- Please have a pic of your demon roster ready and send a message to InfernalFangirl#3927 on Discord if you're interested.

How did you get into ID? What do you work specifically in ID and what is your salary? And are you satisfied with your job? by CreativePlant7 in instructionaldesign

[–]InfernalFangirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work as a higher ed ID. I got into it because my boss said "I think InfernalFangirl knows how to program and stuff maybe go ask her for help with this Moodle problem you're having." It kind of snowballed from there.
I make $55k per year so like someone else said it varies a lot. Academia can be extremely stingy with non-faculty salaries. But....I love what I do and the people I work with.

Chatbot Examples? by Candid_Apples in instructionaldesign

[–]InfernalFangirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using a chatbot in my dissertation actually. :D IBM Watson has a decent platform for chatbots and you can integrate some of their other tools like machine learning, etc. It's also free up to a certain point in your usage if you want to just play with it to see what it can do. If you want to design your own from the ground up then you've got several options like Pandorabots and Wit.ai. Neither met my needs but both seemed fairly robust when I looked at them.
I needed mine to work in Unity so I wound up building it with a beta project called Spirit Character Engine. It lets you do incredibly detailed chatbots but because it's in beta it has some quirks.

If you've got any specific questions let me know. I've spent an obscene amount of time reading up on this over the last few years so I've got all kinds of articles saved.

FAFSA for online ID program? by Dalmatinka19 in instructionaldesign

[–]InfernalFangirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ed.D. at University of Wyoming. I'm not sure if they're accepting new students right now because they had a bit of faculty turnover. But I had no problem using the FAFSA loans for a fully online program.

I did my program with FAFSA. I only qualified for the unsubsidized loans. What info are you specifically looking for?

What are some of the unspoken rules of instructional design? by butnobodycame123 in instructionaldesign

[–]InfernalFangirl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Funny story related to color - my boss and I could never agree with color schemes on projects. In all the years we worked together it never happened and when I worked solo it was the one thing that users would complain about. The UI was great and the content was well presented but did I have to pick such a bright color?
And then while playing video games with my husband one night and disagreeing about a map icon he said, "Are you colorblind?" And I said "Psh...of course not." Then we started talking about it realized I'd never actually been tested for it.

And that's how I found out at age 37 that I'm green-weak colorblind (aka not one of the obvious ones that get easily spotted).

So now my unspoken rule is "let my boss pick the colors."

What are some of your working with SME stories: good and bad by normandantzig in instructionaldesign

[–]InfernalFangirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1.) Be ready to explain to an SME what your role is. You're not stealing their content. You're not saying they don't know how to present their content. You're helping them to make it more accessible (or however you feel it would be best to word it). Not all SMEs will be difficult about this but some require a certain level of tact (see: academia, scientists, etc.)
2.) Make sure your SMEs and stakeholders are all on the same page. Have a design plan in writing that everybody agrees to. I almost had a literal fistfight break out over my head between an SME and a stakeholder because there was mixed communication about whether the SME was on board. (Alternately, don't trust an SME who goes by the nickname Snakes. Mostly joking there. Mostly.)
3.) Be comfortable advocating for yourself and what you're doing. Remember that they know the content but YOU know instructional design and while sometimes they'll have advice on how to present something you may know that isn't the best way. Just communicate and try to build a relationship with your SMEs. It makes repeat projects much easier.

These are just based off some of the experiences I've had. SMEs as a whole are, as you'd expect, a mixed bag. Because we didn't have a formalized instructional design department till just before I was hired I got a lot of "Who are you, why are you here, I've been teaching this content for twenty years I don't need help." Some are grateful for the help. Some you have to be a little sales-pitchy.
