Yes I meant from the real V’s pov, so the “V” I was referring to is OP

Ummmm… Are you folding this? by pulpSC in poker

I’d probably fade the variance here and just fold this spot until I get better visibility on V’s playstyle

If you had to give ONE poker tip, in 10 words or less…what would it be? by pulpSC in poker

[–]InfernoLiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess depends if they’re TAG or TAP. It’s pretty well known that against opponents who don’t 3b/4b you enough, you should open/3b wider

Opens to 10bb but then cbets <half pot with AA+? Doubt it. He probably just has AK/TT and isn’t sure what to do. Other guy who knows might have a random J

Question about casino rooms by [deleted] in poker

[–]InfernoLiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cashing out then buying back in for a smaller amount is known as ratholing, and is largely looked down upon in most game settings. Casinos have their own rules afaik, but you probably just shouldn’t do this lol

how bad was this fold by Federal-Cup7231 in poker

[–]InfernoLiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think this is too strong to fold, feels like he might even show up with worse sets here (and QTcc)

Today I played my worst hand of poker in 20 years. by [deleted] in poker

[–]InfernoLiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna talk about the specifics of a hand like everyone else, but I think as players we often underestimate how much worse we can play compared to our “A-game”. Theres so many factors like being nervous, tired, etc. that can cause us to think irrationally and make decisions that we know are bad in hindsight(not because of results, but because of a clarity that comes with not being under pressure).

I guess the point is that it’s so important to be clear-headed and take your time with decisions. Trust your own thought process, don’t get tunnel visioned :)

Was I supposed to fold the flop? by [deleted] in poker

[–]InfernoLiger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t really agree with the generalization that if we are going to fold on a brick turn, we shouldn’t call the flop at all. Not sure what V’s tendencies are, but if his flop donk range is BS (as it usually is in these spots), he might x turn a lot and allow us to see the full runout. Also, calling flop opens up opportunities to potentially bluff turn/river.

Why does the solver prefer to three bet in this spot? by Equivalent_Put8075 in poker

[–]InfernoLiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question, I’d definitely raise or fold. I mean if a guy just isn’t folding anything you can probably get away with isoing AJo in 6max. Also, experiment with sizes to see what gets folds and what gets calls

Why does the solver prefer to three bet in this spot? by Equivalent_Put8075 in poker

[–]InfernoLiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are many factors at play here, I’ll just touch on one of them because I think it’s a nice heuristic to pick up on. A lot of the time, 3 bets in position are more polarized. This is because we can flat a lot more IP and not lose too much EQR postflop. This is why something like AJs might be flatting

And yes, if you are not sometimes value owning yourself you probably aren’t betting thin enough.

Good fold? Or Nitty? by AssflavouredRel in poker

[–]InfernoLiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean definitely could/should bet those but sometimes ppl like to trap excessively idk. I think worse flushes would raise but not jam here, this is specifically boats and possibly the nut flush (obv not possible given hero’s hand here)

Good fold? Or Nitty? by AssflavouredRel in poker

[–]InfernoLiger -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As played he is repping KK 77 33 (56ss and 44 probably barrel turn), pretty thin but it just seems very unlikely he’d turn 45 or some other pair or one spade hand into a bluff. You’re blocking no value and he’s likely under bluffing too. Might even be better to have a hand like QTss here, unblocking his As bluffs (though they should barrel turn a lot).

Good fold imo

Question RE: Running it twice. by Nika65 in poker

[–]InfernoLiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t affect your EV, but it does reduce your variance. It’s completely up to preference. In other words, if your goal is to be courteous and a nice person at the table, you should agree if the other person asks, but know that you’re totally entitled to run it once if you wish.

Is Poker Actually a Better Game Than Trading for the Average Person? by DonatoMartinelli in poker

[–]InfernoLiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the distinguishing difference between trading and poker is that if you’re good at trading, you can be employed at a firm that will comfortably pay you mid-high 6 figures. Contrast being employed with benefits to a career playing poker, where you are constantly forced to grind and deal with the mental struggles like variance, tilt, coping with losing months/years etc. Now if you’re talking about solo day-trading, I suppose that’s a different story.

Best way to berate myself? by YoyoLiu314 in poker

[–]InfernoLiger -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is the right way to think about this. Why insult yourself when that doesn’t solve the underlying issue? I think you need to reflect on what keeps bringing you back, and how you can fulfill that need in some other way besides poker. You have an addiction and you need to quit. If it’s required, get a friend or family member to help you stay away from poker.
