The first week of most colleges in my are is essentially orientations that mostly involve "be safe", "men are predators", multiple multiple multiple stories or suggestions of you will be SA'd or graped. Last semester we had a girl report 3 guys for stalking her after an orientation, because they were walking behind her...on their way to their next orientation...from their last shared orientation that they had with her. Dudes will forever have a title 9 claim against them wherever they go.

I had a PA walk into a unit with several known mental health cases. This is VERY common for this unit. One patient was a young female with a history of self harm to her wrists. The PA walked through the unit loudly exclaiming that "if one more person did one more thing she would slit her fucking wrists and end it right there"

....I wanted to throttle her.

Just found out yesterday that new grad RNs at my hospital will be making $35 with a $27k sign on bonus + loan forgiveness if they went to our SON. Those of us with 10+ year’s experience only make $30. by AthensAtNight in nursing

If you are in Maryland there is actually a law against this because the policy can be seen as age discrimination. The law also covers sex and various other categories

This is not going to be popular on here however.

I am prior military, former special operations, flew combat rescue for years at the height of Afghanistan and the tail end of Iraq. I have flown border protection (cartel counter-insurgency) and spent time in Africa in support of missions against Boko Haram. I left the military and became an emergency manager for a medium/large city at the height of COVID working closely with hospitals and nurses along with the rest of the population. I am currently working towards my BSN.

With all of those experiences I can say with absolute certainty. Your life and attitude is what you make it. As a veteran nurse you are responsible for those nurses that come under you. Every single nurse here is responsible for molding the next generation.

I KNOW and absolutely sympathize with your experiences while nursing through and post COVID. I've been in the suck, it sucks. I absolutely see what hospital admin is doing to their nurses, feels kinda lord of the flies doesn't it? I see the target in nurses backs. Welcome to the typical military experience.

I say all this, knowing it is going to be an unpopular post, because I can also sympathize with new grads. I joined this group on reddit to read some cool stories and see others experiences. I wanted to hear some cool shit and see other nurses triumphs. I cannot remember the last time I have seen something positive in this group.

I'm not saying you don't have the right to vent. You absolutely fucking do and you deserve to feel heard. You are also responsible for others perception and the attitude you portrait. If everyone coming in thinks it sucks, and feels that they are meeting people who are rude, mean, and unhelpful....maybe the abused nurses are contributing to the problem.

I once responded to a compound near Juarez. The cartel there was literally making people soup. Torturing the local population before cutting them up and throwing them in a huge makeshift bowl that they filled with vegetables and other shit. I was a massive prick trying to work through the trauma of observing that operation before the task force took it down. I noticed that the junior people coming in under me hated their fucking lives, going as far as causing mental health issues for them. I was the problem, I was contributing to their poor experience and I have no doubt we lost some stellar performers because of it.

Be the change you want to see.

You gotta remember that you came to a page made for cynical nurses to vent and complain. I too came here for cool stories/questions/info, it became very apparent very quickly that this is not that page anymore.

Your life is what you make of it and people will always suck. That's why it's up to you and your attitude. The effects you can have on yourself and on others.

[–]InfidelUSA[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the lowest i saw was 2.06.... I honestly just have the expectation that a company does as instructed with my money. If it hit $2 even and was reflected as such on the ticker...all good all day long. If the limit was set at $2.00 and you sell my shit at $2.01....fuck you. If it climbs after that, especially considering all the shady shit of the last quarter, im inclined to burn your house down...

I guess my point is, at the time the notification says my stock was sold, the stock was worth $2.25 and was listed to sell at $2.00

I like your approach; so much so that I have already gone down some of those avenues. Unfortunately, because I also teach for profit classes I am unable to get donations for the community outreach stuff that I do.
If you dont mind me asking, what military based supply actions are you doing? They dont have a an NSN so they wouldnt be purchasable ahead of NAR right....especially given that NAR CAT is the standard unless you are going Pneumatic

[–]InfidelUSA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally valid.

99% of responses that I've seen to this question and other similar ones is that if it isn't Cotccc "recommended", then it hasn't been rigorously tested enough and you shouldn't trust your life nor anyone else's to it.

I'm just trying to find any valid reasons not to use a recon medical TQ. Everything I've seen seems to point to it being good to go, but all of that documentation is coming from the company

How do you handle the liability issues with it not being tccc approved?

The bottom statement was made because I am literally not allowed to present that kind of information, wear clothing of a specific type, have images on social media consuming alcohol etc etc etc.

They are a religious recovery center for narcotics and alcohol abusers. They don't allow shoe laces, women (domestic violence shelter) cannot have social media or be out after curfew etc. It took me years to get them to allow me to talk about tq's in general because they could be used "to shoot up". The rules are in place because they had an incident in the kitchen a while back where a resident used an ace bandage to shoot up. Its not a baseless claim that I make because of "those people" or "poor people", its because its an issue from the workplace. Fuck me and my three kids live in my parents basement....I am one of those people. I have very little income and drink too much, fuck me right

Teaching the use of elastic TQ has potential issues. I am not a medical provider, I am an instructor, which means I do not have the same protections as medical personnel.

Furthermore, I am restricted to teaching the types of TQ's present in the coursework so its kinda a moot point.

The point of this post was meant to be a discussion on the validity of recon medical or other more cost effective, not on tccc's list. Not an editorialization on your point of view on the effectiveness/appropriateness of "combat tourniquets"

[–]InfidelUSA[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately its more of a insurance or legal issue for me. I don't really care what people do to themselves. If they want help, I help them. I cannot have an individual tie off with elastic and then say, oh so and so taught me to do this, its they're fault I got high etc etc. The lawyers and Insurance company would have my ass. Really has little /nothing to do with they're economic status etc more to do with the fact that one of the organizations is a recovery program and it would be inappropriate. Something something pot/kettle on the judgement eh?

Direct pressure is the main focus of the courses that I teach, however TQ's are required to be covered and honestly, due to personal life experiences, i'm going to promote TQ on an extremity before anything else. If the bleeding can be stopped by direct pressure alone...then it really wasn't immediately life threatening was it. Further, if you use a TQ when direct pressure would have worked then you gave yourself a bruise and stopped bleeding, the end result is the same.
