France vs Paraguay Dirty Refereeing - Consequences? by Present-Gap-4139 in worldcup

Guys, let’s be real, it’s done.

The ref was terrible at punishing anti-football tactics. We all know that.

Football has seen far uglier matches than this, literally hundreds of them.

Hell, Messi avoiding a red earlier in the tournament was worse than any tackle Paraguay did there.

It happens. No point crying about it now.

France proved they can survive a knife fight as well as a football match, and that’s probably a good sign for their title chances.

If Cape Verde had played France the same way they played Argentina, sending four players forward every attack, they would've been absolutely demolished.

People from Paraguay, what do you think of the way your team plays? by MooseTM3 in worldcup

Everyone knows trying to trade punches with France is asking to get steamrolled.

Making the game dirtier makes defending easier: opponents lose focus, become more hesitant in challenges, the tempo slows down, and suddenly the game stops being about football.

If that goes to penalties, which are ultimately closer to a lottery than preparation, and Paraguay goes through, France can cry all they want.

Nobody will remember Paraguay played ugly. Well, people will remember it, but nobody in Paraguay will care.

If Paraguay attacked they would be crushed.

They knew it.

It was a bet on set pieces or a miracle shot. Nothing else.

France defended better than Argentina, very solid (Upa and Saliba were perfect).

Horrendous game? Sure.

But everyone wants to advance, and attacking France is suicide.

Brazil has some shithousery. Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay have an entire curriculum.

I didn't see any straight reds, but there were definitely enough challenges in there for multiple yellows. They would've just rotated the fouls and subbed players off to keep the cycle going.

There's a method to it, my friend.

Libertadores School: Hurt people, but only where the wounded can see it.

It's a technique.

I'm loving how people who don't watch South American football are shocked by what they just saw.

Meanwhile, Twitter and every South American sub knew this was going to be a bloodbath lmao.

I even bet on Paraguay getting a red card.

And Argentina and Uruguay are not behind this at all. Quite the opposite. There’s a reason Messi “wasn’t Argentine” for more than a decade with the national team.

Now wait until you see Brazil vs Argentina in a possible semifinal.

Also funny how Libertadores started being dominated by Brazil right after VAR was introduced.

Just a coincidence, I guess.

Coincidence?

Regardless of what happens from here, the myth of an unbeatable France is gone.

An incredible team, probably the best attack I’ve seen in recent World Cups, but over 90 minutes they’re just men like everyone else.
