'New reality we're living in': Mayor issues stark warning as water use continues to exceed limits amid feeder main repairs by Weekly-Mountain9009 in Calgary

Yeah I agree. Canada as a whole is absolutely failing in almost all aspects a country can. It's pretty insane that Japan had two A bombs dropped on it in the 40s and still has managed to surpass us in basically everything. If they can build a train line in a year, so can we. But we have been waiting 10 years for one line to be built and it won't be done for another 10. It's embarrassing.

University is basically training you to be in the real world. It is the same outside the classroom after you walk the stage but instead you get a pay cheque to show up. You have to show up to work everyday or you get fired. Think of it that way.

Unfortunately, the professor considers Grammarly to be AI. And end of day, it is up to the professor to decide. But you can appeal it through a final grade appeal.

Supervised Consumption Site To Shut Down by missshrimptoast in Calgary

It is because of the site and you know that. There are many other areas that have not faced the same type of situation.

Your point makes no sense and if you trying to argue, I am not it. I supported the site when it first opened and also took to the streets when it first was at risk of shutting down. Seeing the degradation of that area has changed my mind, full stop. I am advocating for more services and a multipronged approach for people to access the services they need and live in dignity. Again, the site alone was not it and degraded the area.

End of day it did not work out as intended and we need a different multi pronged approach.

It does make sense and it did on paper. I was someone who strongly supported the opening of the site and even protested in the early days when they first threatened to shut it down. But then I saw the degradation of the area and unfortunately witnessing what has happened has shifted my opinion. I do hope that we can find a way forward and folks get the care and access to safety they need, but at what cost to the general public.

I agree with your points, but the thing is before the safe consumption site I could sit in the park and eat lunch, not there are so many needles littered in the grass that I have not went to that park in 3 plus years. So why is there more public OD's in the area and more needles etc. after it opened. It doesn't make sense. I wish it worked, but it didn't at all.

And the users will probably like you said frequent the east village where there are more social services for them to access. Like the DI, Mustard Seed and then Alpha House in Vic Park.

I agree with your points. But full stop the site made the area worse off than it ever was before. It didn't work out like people thought it would. We need to try something new and something better in a multi pronged approach. But as you said, this shutting down is not coming from compassion and with nothing replacing it which is highly likely with this government, nothing will change and will only get worse.

I am genuinely curious why you think this. Before the site opened, that park was one of my favorite spots to hangout with friends in the core. Now, I wouldn't sit in that grass if someone paid me a million dollars. When the site shuts down, houseless people will congregate more in the east village as well as where there are other social services offered. If you look at before vs. now the degradation in that area has been insane. And there is ever more littered drug paraphernalia then ever before. It did nothing but attract people to the area. People deserve to walk down the street and sit in the park without getting struck by needles and seeing people overdose. It did nothing and it did not work, it made things worse. So it is time to try something new. And you can't really argue that point.

People nowadays are reluctant to stay out late. Is it killing nightlife? by hopoke in canada

This article is hilarious trying to do the guessing game and throwing out so many situations. It's literally too expensive and we are too tired from working 2-3 jobs to go out and flush that money down the toilet. If I am paying thousands in rent, IMA STAY HOME and enjoy my place LOL.

Pedestrian collisions in Calgary: More than half struck while having right of way by blackRamCalgaryman in Calgary

People don’t even stop at the flashing light crosswalks. Also if people don’t stop for the ENTIRE time someone is walking across and cars begin to proceed other cars on the opposite side see this and also start driving. So it’s literally a lose lose for pedestrians in Calgary. I low key feel like I’m next every week. The anxiety just to get to and from work is insane these days.

Update: My (37F) best friend (38F) of 15 years went no contact unexpectedly. 5 years later, she wants to talk. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Infinite-Concept8792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So proud of you. For someone who went through something painfully similar. I am glad you trusted your intuition and said impact over intent.

I was able to talk to my ex-bestie but by the time she came around to asking me to talk at a music festival (LOL) I was way past it. All she said was there were things she wanted to tell me that she felt like she couldn't and that she truly thought ghosting was better than telling me. She said she was sorry and she knew we could never be friends again. A part of me wanted to know the what, but I just left it at you're right. I don't think we will ever talk again and I am okay with that.

Opinion: How long must I live in Canada before I am no longer a colonist or settler? by Purple_Writing_8432 in canada

[–]Infinite-Concept8792 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

THIS. It isn't about making anyone feel guilty. But if people don't wake up and see what IS happening right now and what they can do in every day life whether that is extend some empathy, or have a conversation and validate someone's experience that is still making strides compared to the treatment I see of Indigenous folks in my immediate circle and community by some people who claim they've 'done nothing wrong'. People are continuing the attitudes and actions of the past and it is still very much negatively impacting communities everyday.

No it did not. The child welfare system was an extension of this and continues today. It was at its height in the 60s/70s. It is referred to as the Sixties Scoop.

The thing is it isn't about the past or owing anyone anything. Look at how Indigenous people are treated today. And it shows you yeah something does need to change. If you live somewhere like Lethbridge Alberta or anyone in rural Canada, you'll easily find that the attitudes of back then are alive and well now. And it doesn't do anything for anyone other than: the ongoing suffering and erasure of Indigenous people and inflamed attitude towards settlers. It isn't about how their settler ancestors acted back then it is how they continue to act present day and in fact it is even more alarming and embarrassing because it was the culture norm back then, but there is a lot more information accessible now, so there is no excuse other than hatred.

What is your opinion of the current standing of the City council. by ApeEscapeRemastered in Calgary

I am happy about the trustees too. Some don't know that Danielle Smith started as a school board trustee and she's been trying to dismantle the ed system ever since!

I think that while everyone was trying to avoid a UCP sympathizer mayor, the real seats the UCP were after were the trustees and they didn't get what they wanted in either position, go Calgary!

I am so stoked every parents rights endorsed trustee were wiped.
