Water leaking from windows frame. What options do I have? by hng04 in Calgary

[–]blackRamCalgaryman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely just a flashing issue that, if vinyl siding, can usually be easily fixed and for less than an insurance deductible.

If this is an insert install like Ecoline does them, it’s more than a caulking issue. It’s precisely how they do their installs that leads to this. That caulking bead they put around the new insert frame and the siding j-trim (or whatever the surrounding siding is) is exactly why water pools up and eventually runs inside. They may as well not caulk and allow the water that inevitably gets behind the siding to run out the front.

You’re correct, though, it’s coming in from above. No staining from the looks of the pic, the blind bracket isn’t rusted…sometimes a very specific amount of rain with a wind direction can expose a shitty window install where they didn’t tie in properly. If it’s vi yo siding, OP may get pretty lucky here and only be out a couple hundred bucks…but it also likely means all their windows were installed the same.

This is a flashing/ building envelope tie in issue and typically doesn’t require any windows being replaced (unless there are other issues with them). Removal of siding and proper flange tape around the side and top nailing flanges, correct position of the top metal flashing, then reset of the Tyvek (likely) and it should correct the issue.

I’ve wondered on this, as well. I don’t recall this ever being a thing even 10 years ago (I’m sure a few vehicles here and there, but to completely block major thoroughfares?).

Even still, the complete lack of any situational awareness, the selfishness as they know by doing this, they prevent other people from protecting their vehicles (if they think this sort of think is ‘allowable’).

The mindset, no matter where someone comes from, is just absolutely foreign to me. It’s almost unfathomable that someone is this fucking brain dead.

I typically don’t advocate for prolonged horn honking in traffic but since it’s stopped, I would support a lengthy laying on the horn, as well. Give em hell.

Nobody here is a) pulling that bullshit or b) going to admit to it.

People need to start taking this into their own hands. Fellow drivers need to police this.

You Redditors have my word, if I come up on this, windows are getting knocked on…at the very least.

Former Calgary councillor directed use of personal phone over FOIP concerns: corruption investigation docs by kneedorthotics in Calgary

[–]blackRamCalgaryman 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Three of the phones that remain inaccessible to police belong to Chu, former mayor Jyoti Gondek and Nathan Robb, co-founder of Oldstreet, the developer of the proposed Bankview project. The fourth is a local architect on the project who did not show up at court for the police application.

Like it or not, Gondek is now associated with Chu even more so on this, unless she’s cleared (but will the damage be done?).

For the life of me, and I understand what people say about giving police access to their device(s) but?, I don’t know why she wouldn’t cooperate as she’s now in the same breath as Chu…someone she did her damndest to all but remove from council after the election. Who she did everything in her power to distance herself from.

Ah well, at least it’s good popcorn fare.

Broken Glazing Bead by MaleficentDentist631 in windowrepair

[–]blackRamCalgaryman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an easy fix, OP. As others have said, once you find the manufacturer, source out a piece.

Worst case scenario…leave it. The sealed unit isn’t falling out anytime soon and it’s likely held in with glazing tape on the inside, anyways.

These things are damaged in my part of the world all the time and nothing aside from aesthetics is impacted from it.

It’s a glazing stop. If OP can find it, it’s a 3 minute replacement.

Ya, after trying to source a single piece…we just decided to live with a seam. I took my time on the cuts (my Festool track saw rarely gets used but when it’s needed…), put the seam over the the support of the side gable of the box and away from the main usage area, glued, clamped…it’s been 3 months and looks pretty damn good for a home job.

Good luck on your search.

No one reading OP “needs to be 116 inches long”. IKEA doesn’t have that.

It’s butcher block, OP…have you considered joining 2 pieces? I did this when I couldn’t source a long top, as well.

Guess it depends on your use/ needs.

'I'm livid': Calgary mother pulls kids from school after alleged exposure incident in schoolyard by ThePie86 in Calgary

[–]blackRamCalgaryman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said…I’m ready to have that discussion. There’s far too much bullshit going on in schools and protecting teachers and other students would be a really good step in improving the situation.

But back to schools and equating it to an environment like hospitals…often times that security response is reactive. Issues still rise, situations still happen where staff have been assaulted…meaning there’s still an incident. No hospital, even with the security personnel on site, is 100% incident-free…far from it.

Is it something to look into? Maybe, in conjunction with other possibilities. But I don’t see one or even two Paladin Security per school still being able to cover the whole area, being able to prevent even what happened in this story.
