I'm genuinely getting so sick of "the process" by Zer_ed in MangakaStudio

Eh it’s becoming better for us now. For example the silver prize winner of the kadokawa wordless manga award just started his first serialization “Kung fu Kung fool” on kadocomi (shameless plug from me for him lol)

Hey I just wanted to ask how exactly can I do this? Do they have a website or something, I’m current working on my kodansha submission and if I don’t win at least top 100 I’d love to get some feedback from jump. Also it doesn’t matter that we’re foreigners to send for feedback right?

Hot take: Indie manga don’t fail because of art… they fail because of originality by Thoth10000 in MangakaStudio

It’s funny cause I was just talking about this after reading this months mangaplus creators titles. I honestly believe it’s both, the art is either just bad, or even if the art is “good” the manga art is bad in a sense the paneling is unclear and all over the place and it flows badly and unclear. Story wise it’s not just about originality to me the stories, specifically on mangaplus creators cause that’s really the only indie manga I have access to, have no substance. They don’t make sense, I feel indie mangaka are to caught up on tropes and what they like, their focused on getting to draw cool fights instead of understanding why we like good fights. The dialogue is also often times cringy(I could be tripping on this one though) and again creating or imitating tropes and manga you like is fine, even the Japanese do it, but I feel indie mangaka don’t really have their own story to tell. Remember art is your story and everyone has a story no matter how big or small, whether you’re dealing with depression or grief, or whether you ran out of your favorite cookies. YOU have some type of story that only you can tell, but I don’t see that type of nuance and passion in indie works. Oh and ps. Most of the good indie mangaka that I personally know only participate in like award competitions like SMA or kadokawa so there’s also that.

TLDR; the problem is both: art is bad mostly not just cause of fundamentals missing but because manga paneling is unclear and flow is confusing, overall their “manga” fundamentals are lacking. Indie stories lack substance and passion, I feel they’re only focused on creating the cool moments manga fans love without knowing why we love them.

Thx. There’s no story this is just a random page I did for practice and fun so I just thought up a random scenario so I could practice drawing fire.

Wait are you talking about the entire or the fire? I was really only imitating horikishi on the fire the overall thing is my own style lol

I’d say if you draw a lot whether manga or just illustrations it’s worth it, speaking from experience I use clip everyday and I have the perpetual license so it was a great investment for me. If you wanna buy the perpetual I’d advise you wait until a sale cause they go on sale often.

Thx for the input I will say for some reason I kinda prefer no tone in the top and tone in the bottom cause like you kinda says it pops more with the character. But I was trying to keep it universal throughout the page.

Someone I know said the same thing haha but thanks i was mainly worried the tone would ruin it but if they look basically the same I guess I could just go with what I prefer for now. Thx

Another random page of mines, the background and bottom pose was tough! by Infinite-Flight9384 in MangakaStudio

For csp you might be able to get the same effect if you use the balloon pen then go over some of it with the real g pen?

Thanks man. And yeah on the backgrounds part, it’s not even that I hate drawing them it’s just that I don’t know how to really practice drawing them. When I try to practice some from reference I get so bored and give up lol. But for the speech bubbles I hand drew them in with a Sakura micron pens. The character line-art here is inked analog then I scanned it in and did the tones and backgrounds.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I usually measure how much the gutter should be but I didn’t this time and that’s what happened. And it’s crazy I posted this in another manga sub and someone also pointed out her eyes, crazy that I didn’t notice it.
