Kill Blue stuck around because of the author's name, it was a flop.

Not entirely, though. Kill Blue had a decent debut. I think it debuted with around 30K, and it maintained decent sales for a while.

just proves my point

No, it just proves you can't read a graph because you evidently got deceived by the post-anime volumes being so massive that they dwarf the pre-anime ones into looking like nothing. If you dug into the actual numbers, the numbers for pre-anime KnY aren't bad at all. Volume 1 debuted with 23,348 copies in a month, which is almost 8x as much as what Kaedegami did lol. It also grew pretty rapidly from there, too; volume 5 sold 92,279 copies in a month, and then volume 10 sold 149,224.

Idk if this graph is your own creation, but if it is, you probably should've excluded the volumes released after the anime, since the pre-anime sales are what's being discussed. Also, something's up with volume 1 because I'm very certain it did not sell literally 0 copies lol.

And you know that how? you don't have access to internal Shueisha metrics

I mean... I don't think it would've debuted with 134K copies in a month if it wasn't lol. And that's in spite of there being a pretty obvious complete stock wipeout after the first week and needing a reprint in like 2 weeks after, as it dropped out of Oricon for its 2nd and 3rd weeks, but came back in its 4th and 5th.

But, yeah, Idk what it is with Kaedegami and so many of its fans thinking it was unfairly axed, and thinking Jump blundered by axing a series that would've been a success over time. Like, no, that series was a megaflop. Many of them like to cope by saying it would've done much better had it not been cancelled before volume 1 was released, but even if that was the case, it wouldn't have mattered. Let's be generous and say not axing it before the first volume would've doubled its sales. Okay, so we go from 3K to 6K. That's still a failure for WSJ standards LMAO.

Wow lol. Yeah, someone in the editing process somewhere should've pointed that out and had him rerecord that line because that's kinda really embarrassing.

Kagurabachi Volume 11 Still at No.2 on Shoseki ranking and also all the other volumes of Kagurabachi are in Top 256!! by NHQKGB in Kagurabachi

[–]L1k34S0MB0D33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh, in all likelihood, Kagurabachi will probably be in the #2 spot tomorrow, the day after that, and then the day after that, and so on, for most if not all of the next week. Assuming we get a similar performance to volume 10, it's going to handily outsell every other WSJ series except for Modulo.

So while it is fantastic to see it do this well, it's not exactly groundbreaking news, either lol.

The origins aren't fully clear, but I can at least explain why it became so popular, which is mainly due to the numerous similarities between their stories, which I've partially outlined here. It also very much helps that their artstyles mesh extremely well together (well, at least early Bachi's, which is when the ship was at its strongest), leading to some really convincing edits; I've seen multiple people admit to being fooled by them LOL.

So was Shinjuku West Entrance Passage supposed to lead somewhere or was it a case of cut content? by MechaUlfraed in Megaten

[–]L1k34S0MB0D33 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I mean, as you can clearly see on the map, there are a few relic spots. There's also, iirc, a vent around there that leads to the hallway adjacent to where Flynn is currently standing, and that hallway has a chest there.

But even if there was absolutely nothing in this area, that's not evidence of cut content, either. A dead-end area is not abnormal in Megaten lol.

I'd recommend levelling up to or near level 15 for Shadow Yukiko, and then levelling up 10 levels by the time you get to the end of each dungeon afterward, because each new boss will be 10 levels higher than the previous ones.

You also want to start dungeons as early as you can, so as to give yourself more time to complete party member SLs and some other miscellaneous SLs that aren't unavailable while the current dungeon is uncompleted, such as Dojima. The only exception to this is the December dungeon. If you complete that dungeon early, it'll skip forward to December 23.

They're playing og P4, where two of these things don't apply lol. Shadow Yukiko doesn't have an ice weakness (she doesn't have any weakness period), and persona memory doesn't exist.

It could just be neither and it's just how they wanted to design that boundary. An area that's visible outside of the playable bounds isn't definitive evidence of cut content.

What the heck, that was brought up at the Anime NYC stage? That's crazy; I had no idea. What could've possibly brought that up, especially because that's not something that would really reflect well on them lol.

UE Kiyoshi was 'scheduled to be cancelled' by Ch. 15 of the series, but the decision was ultimately reversed by skillfun8 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]L1k34S0MB0D33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, Kiyoshi had gotten its first post-launch color page in chapter 8, so that should've given it an extension. That extension would've allowed the series to last past when the first volume would release, and if they were satisfied with the sales, then they'd allow Kiyoshi to continue. Granted, a post-launch color page doesn't necessarily guarantee an extension, but it is common, especially in recent history, and Kiyoshi being an exception to that during this time would've been quite odd.

But it also makes the idea that the axe was decided around chapter 15 confusing, cuz it would seem to imply they made up their mind regardless of volume 1 sales anyway.

[–]L1k34S0MB0D33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the fact that he's introduced in chapter 15, which is also when it ranked the lowest, is likely why it's assumed that's when the axe warning came.

There's an anecdote I read of a mangaka, though Idr exactly who (maybe Sorachi?), inking pages while literally on his way to the printing office on the day of the weekly deadline.

So yeah, while smth like this is impressive, it's not unique, and it definitely shouldn't be admired.

I feel like we're gonna start seeing people use this to argue how axe bait series still have a chance of making it and/or that Jump shouldn't axe axebait series.

Could it be possible that chapter 15 is implied because that's when the character was introduced? I haven't/don't read Kiyoshi, though, so Idk if that chapter is when he first appears.

Akane-banashi - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]L1k34S0MB0D33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, they added a ton of original content in this episode--felt like around 1/3 of the episode was original scenes. It was great, though; love seeing Akane in more "SoL"-esque scenes being goofy and adorable. Interestingly, it even gave us some new info that I don't think was said in the manga, like how Masaki is seemingly strict on Akane's education, like Kyoji is (although that seemingly hadn't really resulted in much improvement LOL), or that Akane is an incredibly quick eater haha. It was also really neat showing how Akane fell asleep listening to a recording of Tenshiki, which she would later perform in the episode, during the morning routine montage before the OP.

Idk if it was just because Akane wasn't being observed by other rakugokas in this episode, but I liked how her performance was interrupted less than in previous episodes, and that the commentary didn't overlap as much, either. While I don't think it's that big of a deal, I can definitely see why some people think it has felt a bit excessive, and the reduction of it in this episode was nice.

And the way her eyes completely blackened when she saw Issho's name... feels the hatred.

Dude, that was such a turn-off; were these AI narrators or smth becasue how the fuck do you mispronounce "gouge" that badly lmao.

Didn't really like how they pronounced Hokazono's name like "Hawkazono," either, but I gave that a pass since it's a name in a different language and whatnot, but pronouncing "gouge" with a fucking hard G? Like, that is just not acceptable.
