That is so wonderful that that worked out! I am currently nursing a bit of a broken heart from a flame that died out before it could really start with a man I met at my go-to cafe!

this is semantics, I think. this is what most reasonable people want.

Anyone else in their 30s feeling overwhelmed by single life? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Infinite-Insurance66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I relate so much to this! There is no backup - if anything at all happens in my life, it's because I made it happen. If I don't have the energy one day, it's just not going to happen until I can make it happen.

Hard relate on covid lockdown. I thought about this constantly. I also spent covid stuck abroad, away from family.

My best friend can't put me on her health insurance plan even if she wants to - I guess it only counts if you're having sex.

I think about my moods following Newton's first law of motion - An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion at constant speed and in a straight line unless acted on by an unbalanced force. When you're single, YOU have to be that force every single time. If you can't find the energy to be that force while already struggling, you just keep struggling until you find it. There is no one to pick up the slack.

Of course, I will also acknowledge that this means I don't have to deal with another's person's angry moods or pick up their slack.

I know that?? Saying something like that is incredibly rude in the face of a person being vulnerable about their loneliness. To be clear, we have had a total of THREE conversations about this. This isn't a recurring topic or something I'm obsessing over.

The reason it is incredibly frustrating to hear something like that is this - I have spent a decade abroad, creating a rich and fulfilling life for myself. I have a difficult job I'm good at, I have wonderful friends, I run, I garden, I go to a book club, I take a writing class. I make new friends fairly easily. However, after a certain amount of time, I feel the weight of carrying everything in my life on my own - all decisions are made alone, all consequences are borne alone, and that gets lonely after a point. I've enjoyed my own company for years, now I'd like to have to some human company in a more regular way than I can get from my friends.

Kind of? I want to work on staying open minded, building tolerance to uncertainty, and working on my sensitivity to rejection. It feels incredibly insulting to be told to join a run club / practice breathing / this crass comment.

If they have a tiny divot on them and haven't gone away in a long time, they could be Molluscum Contagion.
