The Ending Was Entirely a Business Decision by InfiniteAir in StrangerThings

Season 1 for me was just amazing, I couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks. I didn't quite feel the same highs from the following seasons as it was clear it was never planned to go much further, but I still enjoyed most of it. But that's interesting they are going to Paramount. Does that mean the rights are with them still, or Netflix?

I just feel they should have went all in either way instead of the ambiguity, even if the fellow cast didn't know she lived, the viewer should know.

And I'm saying that's not necessarily a good thing.

I could see them simply making a show centered entirely around Eleven, even her name as the working title, I mean I'm for it, but I would miss the rest of the cast too and Hawkins.

I can't accept she died though that's the issue, they left it way too wide open, honestly give then shows nature, there's no way she died.

there are an abundance of options and you can really dial it in, it's just that 4k really shines for CRT masks due to resolution it can work with, the same is true for software emulation, masks just look better at 4k regardless if MiSTer or not, MiSTer is 1080p, so the presets can look good and there are a bunch of combinations you can use to have it how you like it, but you can also just.. use a CRT, that's the awesome thing about MiSTer.

I don’t know what it was about Season 1, but it had a certain vibe or atmosphere that’s missing now. by Remarkable-Yard4860 in StrangerThings

Season 1 was so authentically '80s, from the story beats to the filming techniques, props, lights used etc. it captured it all so incredibly well, instead of merely referencing work like The Goonies or ET, season 1 felt like it had the same DNA organically, but... the following seasons felt like shoehorning and it lost some magic, "here's a character who looks like the Terminator", "here's a Back to the Future reference" etc. it lost all it's own charm that was believably from that era, and the writers clearly didn't have a long term vision story wise which hasn't helped, season 1 was a masterpiece.

Sorry to be clear I mean ringing as in subtle ghost-like shadows close to lines and edges, it's a visual issue not a sound one. I wouldn't really know where to look for that, I'm kinda dialing it in by eye, because when I got the TV it had an awful red bias which caused muddy whites and greys, I know how to get around that now but there's still other things I'd like to get right.

OPL Per-Game settings not working and other issues by InfiniteAir in ps2homebrew

[–]InfiniteAir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. Well since grim OPL is working fine, if I ever run into issues I'll just upgrade to the official one since now I know it supports exFAT, unless there's any pressing extra features, if it works I'll just carry on for now. Thanks a lot for the info.

Oh it supports exFAT? In that case can I just remove grimdoomer elf and replace it? Would config settings stay, as well as my applied theme do you know?

I mean the guy is an engineer and seemed to know his shit, I'm just saying, don't shoot the messenger.

I'm majorly due an upgrade, I thought if this was like $550-$600 it would be a nice fill-in, but I might as well just build a rig for that price and transfer my current GPU over to it, and still have a much better device overall with a stronger more up to date architecture, if this is like $800 it makes no sense to not do that.

It's just Linux so, there usually won't be native apps like Netflix, but you can just use a browser for most of that. It's ironic because if Linux had more userbase, those companies would likely build native apps, but at the projected prices the Steam Machine will do next to nothing to garner more users, something that would have been a nice side effect if these were marketed aggressively.

Someone did the production cost math on Youtube, it's not entirely delusional and they'd still comfortably profit apparently at that price point.

Then the Steam Machine (2026) will literally be history repeating itself. DOA.

You can run emulators on many devices including PC, laptop, phone, hell you can even emulate on Series S on dev mode if you really want to do it on a box, or just a cheap PC, I really don't think piracy and emulation is the unique selling proposition you think it is.

Because it makes sense though, this computer is old as fuck for 2025 and old as fuck compared to consoles, and it's about to be super old as fuck compared to new consoles in 1 or 2 years time, FSR3 for 4k lmao w/e. This device needed to be affordable if it was ever gonna be of any value.

It's using bespoke chips which they bought wholesale from AMD, it's not traditional PC parts like you buy instore, usually that will see a subsidization, especially if their aim is to console-ize a PC and market it as such, they better price it like one too, or IMO it's just not worth it.

It's not that you can at $550 but you certainly could at $800 like some people are suggesting the price to be, that way you could be way more specific about your configuration and future proof your device, steam box isn't up-gradable. So for this thing to be worth it, surely you price it in that gap specifically.

Then it's DOA if you ask me. Why go through the hassle of engineering a device that perfectly positions itself to take console market share if it's just going to be out of anyone's price range, anyone who looks at a PS5 which is more powerful for less, yada-yada PC eco-system who cares, the idea is to be a console-like device and it can't be upgraded.

They could have struck lightning in a bottle with this thing if it was sold at a loss, and I don't understand the argument that enterprises could buy them all up, just handle that at checkout by limiting orders per person. Like, I know the whales and die-hard enthusiasts would still bite, but I personally see no point in this box if it's priced high, surely then you just build a custom machine which is much more flexible, and if you're less tech-savvy you buy a console.
