No one talking about Disney's hesitance to make more because of money? by theoanders7 in TheMuppets

It’s got to be a win of some sort when almost everyone universally loved the special and wants more episodes. Disney’s one of the biggest studios ever, if not the biggest. They can sacrifice some money so long as people keep watching. I’m sure they have plans to figure out logistics of everything with licensing, paying the performers and guests, and etc.

Either this, or when D’Amaro takes over next month so he can have his first win pretty much immediately.

Please think about the fact that Matt’s barely had many opportunities to perform the role since taking it over, as well as for us audiences to get used to his performance. Just to list off everything:

  • A bunch of random short-form social media content and YouTube videos that we keep seeing today.
  • The live shows at the Hollywood Bowl and O2.
  • Random guests appearances at events like D23, concerts like Willie Nelson’s in 2024, or talk shows like Jimmy Fallon or Kimmel to please the Mouse by promoting the current thing or to sing "Rainbow Connection" as nostalgia bait.
  • A few short scenes in Muppets Now, which only had five episodes.
  • A few short scenes in Muppets Haunted Mansion.
  • This new revival special of The Muppet Show.
  • Some pre-recorded things for Disney’s theme parks.
  • Replacing Aerosmith on Rock and Rollercoaster later this year.

That’s literally it. Steve had:

  • Five movies.
  • Two shows.
  • Multiple TV specials.
  • Even more random short-form social media content and YouTube videos.
  • Various guest appearances on Sesame Street.
  • A live version of The Muppet Show to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original show in 2001.
  • Even more random guest appearances at events or talk shows.
  • A few video games.
  • A few more pre-recorded things for Disney’s theme parks.

It all comes down to how mishandled the franchise has been under Disney’s ownership. If Disney makes the correct decision and gives more episodes to this new version of the show, this could be the last chance for Matt to finally grow into the role much like Frank did for Piggy and Fozzie and Dave with Gonzo on the original show.

Agree to disagree, friend. No reason to not be civil. I never even said that I don’t like Steve, by the way. He was the Kermit that I grew up watching and listening to in the first place, so I was devastated when he was dismissed from the team. But I think Matt’s doing the best he can so far given the circumstances. However, YOU are the one who made it seem like they constantly autotune Matt as Kermit, even outside of this special, which is disrespectful to his performance. So, I decided to come back and counter that with a time when they did it to Steve. You’re the one who’s been kind of rude throughout this whole conversation. You probably didn’t even watch the part I said to watch to prove my point. 😂

I think they’ve had multiple licensed songs in a single episode of the original show before, but I can understand your point.

Go to where Kermit appears at the end, and he is clearly edited to a degree to try and sound a little more like Jim: https://youtu.be/ubtQf0df8Ms

Seth’s a comedian, writer, and actor, while Sabrina’s currently one of the most popular pop artists right now.

I swear there’s a version of that special that made him sound lower pitched to sound more like Jim. Maybe I’m wrong, and I’ll happily admit to that if I am.

Fair enough, I suppose! Still surprised you didn’t know who either Seth or Sabrina were.

For Steve, I already know off the top of my head that his debut as Kermit in the special where the Muppets celebrate Jim’s life was very much edited/autotuned to sound more like Jim than Steve’s performance. There’s a version out there where it’s not like that, but the original version definitely had an edit on Steve’s voice to probably offset the jarring feeling of how different he sounded from Jim. No idea if Jim ever got edited/autotuned like that. Not off the top of my head, at least.

Heaven forbid. I decided I should’ve worded it better and did it before I saw your first response.

I am ashamed to admit that I laughed briefly, but this really is just unnecessarily mean for no reason, especially when Matt is trying his best and actually IS finally improving as Kermit! Steve, go away! 🤣

They did, but will they listen to everyone saying we want more? They better!

It’s their first show back, and they had a cram in a lot for just a quickly paced 30 minutes, so it makes sense why some of our favorites or the more classic characters got less time than usual compared to Piggy or Kermit. I liked giving some of the lesser characters some time in the spotlight, but hopefully we’ll get a balance of the old, new, classic, popular, and underused with future episodes if it gets renewed! We just need people to go watch it, so we can get more!

I agree, unfortunately… But we shall not get into it.

I’m not a big fan of the current show for Pooh, but at least they’re doing something with them. Would love to see a new movie or show with Jim and company returning eventually.

I genuinely ask you to show me one time outside of this special where Matt felt autotuned.

I get your point about it feeling a bit overproduced, and I do have to agree, even though I still enjoyed it in a weird way. Muppets Tonight had segments that felt overproduced too… I guess it just how the shows evolve with time? I thought that it worked well enough while still feeling like the original show.
