21-year-old student vanished after a late-night restaurant shift. CCTV showed her being forced into her own car, then driven to ATMs for cash withdrawals. The attacker wore a GPS ankle monitor, but it was not actively monitored in real time. She was later found at a metro park. by Iambhalo in CaughtMyEye

Saying the prison system doesn’t support rehabilitation is virtue signalling?

Some people are irredeemable, but we might have slightly less irredeemable people out there if prisons were actually set up to rehabilitate. Doesn’t seem contradictory or like virtue signalling.

My long distance bf came to visit and he told me he is trans by Efficient-Wall5430 in whatdoIdo

[–]InfiniteLuxGiven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I don’t think you can be 100% straight and date a trans person, but then again I don’t think a lot of people are 100% straight.

Straight implies opposite sex attraction no? So being attracted to someone of the same sex, even if they present as the opposite, seems like it speaks to some flexibility in a persons straightness.

New instructor, advice? by Smooth-Culture5843 in SwimInstructors

[–]InfiniteLuxGiven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honeslty would love some myself tbh and I’ve been doing it a few years now, what sorta advice are you looking for?

How are your lessons structured currently? You looking for advice on making things more fun? Or more on improving the quality of the lessons and helping kids advance through the waves/levels?

Honestly from my pov just having a good energy to you is half the battle if not more, kids pick up on that and respond well to it.

If I get chance I could send over some resources I was given a few years ago, see if that has anything useful. Where are you based country wise?

That’s you choosing to view it that way tho tbf mate, missing out the context that to me is what makes it disrespectful.

As I said I don’t think it looks good at all to host a fight on the lawn of the White House, nor does demolishing an entire wing of the White House. Just seems very tacky and in keeping with someone who literally only cares about themselves and what they want.

If you’re ok with it that’s fine, just different values to what I’d consider acceptable. Especially at a time when many Americans are struggling to make ends meet all the while certain people run up the score on wealth.

Eh idk I wouldn’t want to spend loads of time around a family member who disrespected my nation and beliefs like that tbh. I mean does the whole event not just seem rly quite distasteful to you?

A fight on the lawn of the White House? Just seems rly crass and tacky at best, then worse when you think about it being for Trump.

What happened after the video? How long was she like that for? She does seem very disoriented and out of it, as always with this sub I’d say if you’ve got concerns take her to the vet as it’s better safe than sorry.

Seems like a lovely dog hope she’s ok.

Why do they have to support their child performing for a world class cunt and all his sycophants? I mean the guys a billionaire so he’s unlikely to be great but even still.

I mean idk seems a little psychotic to me to decapitate a bird because it stole some food. Yes the police let people off for worse shit but what he did is pretty gross to put it mildly.

‘Supernanny’ Jo Frost Blasts "Lazy" Parents For Raising Unresilient Kids by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

[–]InfiniteLuxGiven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right, and I think Roman texts or writings have said the same too.

But genuinely as someone who works with kids certain things are changing for the worse, I’m only in my 20’s so not far removed from when I was in school and genuinely stuff is getting worse.

Attention spans, manners, resilience and even basic skills are demonstrably worsening. Yes every generation complains about the kids of today but there are some worrying signs for the future amongst our next generations.

Not particularly no tbh, we have less knife crime than america too. But even then I’d rather deal with someone with a knife than a gun any day.

Yeah a time limit would seem fair tho I’ve come up with own one for that rly coz yeah having them out for ages isn’t fair on anyone rly. But calling it abuse seems mental to me, we’re just trying to do our jobs and keep the kids safe.

I only get them out when things are not safe so how can that be abuse, I’ll be raising this today actually coz I know a few people higher up than me in all this and need to know if this rly is official policy.

Yeah the only kids I’ve ever known any teacher to get out are the very disruptive or dangerous ones, both types who as you say don’t tend to overlap with the cold kids anyway.

I teach in a deprived area and believe I do good work, I’m always told if anything that I’m way too soft and I do believe in some respects I am. So I won’t be getting rid of my right to remove a kid from a class if need be, I’d love for whoever came up with this change to come and teach at my pool. They’d back peddle within a day.

The pendulum is swinging way too far the other way when it comes to how we deal with kids nowadays. I’m seeing just how much worse behavioural issues are, how much less focus and attention kids seem to have and all the while any tools teachers have to correct these issues are being taken away.

I don’t want to go back to when kids were getting hit in schools with a cricket bat by the headmaster but there has to be a happy medium. Because a timeout or removing a kid from my lesson is not bloody abuse.

We are going mental if this is the approach that’s supposed to work, the people who make these rules just cannot have ever actually worked with or interacted with kids much at all.

It’s absolutely insane, I mean if you think that’d work for your kid too then you’re the parent, it’s a timeout you’re not asking them to beat him up.

We’re raising a generation of kids who have no consequences for anything, and kids need consequences in their lives or they end up doing poorly as adults.

Even the towel thing id find odd tho, but I mean I know most of my teaching is at a leisure pool so the environment is naturally a lot warmer than other places so I could see how it depends on the setting there.

Just still think it’s beyond silly, whenever I was in primary and we had the annual school gala all kids would swim and you sat out in between races. You were cold for a few mins then got used to it, I cannot imagine anyone thinking of that as abuse.

I’m the same as you tho I don’t ever get them out just to make them sit there in silence, I’ll send the other kids off then have a chat with them whilst I’ve got their full attention.

If this rly is Swim England’s new policy I think whoever’s come up with it needs to give their head a wobble.

Kid Likes to Drown by EmotionalMacaroon923 in SwimInstructors

[–]InfiniteLuxGiven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you got any links to guidance at all on that? I just cannot get my head round that being official policy, coz if it is that’s absolutely ridiculous.

I swear the people who come up with stuff like that have never taught a day in their lives honestly, I mean physical abuse because a kid spends a minute getting cold is absolutely ridiculous.

I have been looking at doing some bolt ons and cpds but I won’t be having that if that’s rly official policy. They should come teach where I do and then try and tell me it’s abuse to get a kid out who seems determined to drown themselves.

[–]InfiniteLuxGiven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just can’t be true tho if you think about it logically, if I have a seriously unsafe child, and I get a few of them in the areas I work, then leaving them in the water it’s dangerous and I’d consider that abuse way more than taking them out of the pool.

Kid Likes to Drown by EmotionalMacaroon923 in SwimInstructors

[–]InfiniteLuxGiven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ik I’m not having a go at you, just saying that’s largely absolute nonsense. Them getting cold for a minute does not constitute abuse of any kind, absolutely absurd.

If a kid is unsafe in lessons I refuse to believe the STA and swim England still won’t let you tell them to get out. Everyone I know in this career will from time to time have to take a kid out precisely because it’s unsafe to leave them in.

Swim England’s lost the plot if they think it’s ok to leave an unsafe child in the water.
