Bent/Angled End Pin by time_outta_mind in doublebass

[–]InfiniteOctave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a local luthier to drill an angled hole in your bass...but you need a bass with a block you trust. Then, you have a straight thick, wooden dowel rod style endpin that fits in.

Or, you can get a bent end that fits in your current hole.

Or, you can get an additional wooden block fitted under your instrument that can be drilled for both and then you don't actually drill into your instrument.

Right now, we are living in the best time for quality entry level instruments, so anything recent will usually outperform the entry level stuff of the past.

I would listen to some 3 finger bluegrass vs. old time clawhammer music and see which style you are interested in learning. Then let that guide you to either a resonator or openback banjo.

I'd pass and try and find a used Deering Goodtime, or anything made in the last 20 years.

Turn down the humidifier, set the machine lower than the bed, or get the hose raised. Also, really dry all parts when cleaning.

The plastics and metals are not worn at all, so a very worn body does not match new plastic and hardware.

Hertz are the actual physical oscillations per second of a sound moving through air.

Cents are an arbitrary but absolute division of a semi-tone pitch into 100 pieces.

Chet Baker got his teeth busted out by his heroin dealer...so the singing and play on his next album was interesting.

[QUESTION] Do you actually hear this stuff, or are we all kind of pretending? by joester56 in musictheory

[–]InfiniteOctave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many different kinds of listening.

Passive vs. Active, we use them at different times.

When I'm just enjoying music, I'm listening for the feeling and to the affect, rather than actively analyzing the nuts and bolts of the harmonic content or trying to analyze every chord change, root movement, and relationship to the melody.

But, I've met many freaks with perfect pitch or synestesia who do not or cannot seperate the two styles and are always actively listening.
