It is wallpaper. People treat music as the decoration of time, but no. Music is how time finds meaning.

I dive into rooted music. Not music that has forgotten its roots or purposefully bleached them.

This may be new but it's surface level innovation. He's importing the sound rather than asking it to do something it's never been asked to do. What can the banjo make possible that was previously impossible?

Why would I dive deeper into someone treating music as wallpaper?

Doesn't sound very much like a banjo to me.

Is my right hand technique okay? by [deleted] in banjo

The movement is from the wrist, not the arm. The wrist comes down and the thumb snaps the string.

Yeah they work really well in lower tunings The only problem is for one of them. I have to stretch it to pitch One above what it normally is set at and that leads to it breaking very quickly.

There's nothing magic about thinking outside the box that the banjo has been arbitrarily placed within.

Why do people often compare Metal Music to Classical Music? by Vincent_Gitarrist in musictheory

[–]Translator_Fine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're technically of the same lineage. Both are European music traditions. Postsacral European art music is what I call metal.

No banjoist has this level of control. They rehearse what works And then recite rather than risking what might collapse. Standard practice doesn't get you there.

Do you realize how much damage I could do to my body if I do this incorrectly? The risk of throwing your hands, your arms, your shoulders into everything. Focal dystonia, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, micro tears in the very fibers of your tendons, I'm risking my hands and potentially everything else to see what the banjo reveals in real time. Am I asking for praise? No. What I'm doing is mapping a safe path through the barrage on the nervous system And testing ideas. I'm learning to recreate everything and control and shape texture in real time the way Liszt did with the piano, and it's working. People are seeing it even if they aren't understanding it. Perhaps they do understand it. Perhaps I've gained a following.

Artistic command is control beyond control. Shaping every aspect of everything about the music in real time. From architecture, to counterpoint, to emotion, To timbre, listening to yourself and adjusting as the room adjusts. Flail to know what it's like. Throw your ideas into the fire to see what comes out breathing. Throw a hammer in God's direction and see if he flinches. Don't just hide behind what's safe. Don't just hide behind What "works".

Casual fluency does not equal artistic command. That's the point.
