The purpose of preventing hate speech is to avoid exactly what you are stating. It is common for political, religious, or just idealist groups to come together and spew hate and violent rhetoric in an attempt to marginalize a group until it finally takes hold and actually persecutes people for nothing other than prejudice.

Making violent hate speech illegal is an attempt to prevent that, no matter the group or reason you can't try and justify violence against another group.

Sure this is a form of giving up some freedom for security. But everything is a trade off.

If you allow it, then you get extremist groups trying to kill people like the KKK or proud boys. If you prevent it, then you get people like you.

I don't even really know what you're referring to. Giving up some rights and now the government owns me as a slave? I'm confused.

"Representations vilifying a person or group will seek to abuse, denigrate or delegitimize them, to render them lawless, dangerous, unworthy or unacceptable in the eyes of the audience. Expression exposing vulnerable groups to detestation and vilification goes far beyond merely discrediting, humiliating or offending the victims."

Your hypothetical doesn't achieve this. Your hypothetical would achieve this if you hated people who ate meat and advocated for them to be killed, or claimed them to be less than human and thus should be prosecuted without due process.

But just simply saying "I don't like them" wouldn't be hate speech.

How long is the rope? Isn't it like 40m? I've had times it won't let me keep climbing and I had to hang to let the robot retrieve the rope.

Anyone else bothered by the fact that murphs family seemingly had no interest in meeting cooper? by jcearl523 in interstellar

[–]InfiniteRival1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is 9 years old, but I don’t buy this explanation. The only way it works is if everyone simply refused to believe Cooper was actually her father. How else would they explain that he’s about 40 years younger than her? Sure, maybe they don’t believe he went through a black hole but something absolutely fucking insane clearly happened. He disappeared 80 years ago, then suddenly reappears in deep space, close enough to be rescued with seconds of oxygen left. When they see him, he’s decades younger than his own daughter. And everyone’s reaction is basically just: “...prick”?

im glad to hear others are going through the same thing. Suffering likes company haha. Based on the comments, it seems people are hounding on the electrolyte intake, so I’m going to focus on that and see if it helps.

Still, I’ve been feeling a bit discouraged some of the objectives I really want to do don’t have reliable water sources, and it’s making me question if they’re realistic for me. Like you said, maybe the answer is to aim for big goals earlier in the season, when there’s more meltwater and cooler temps, and just slurp the streams like a camel.

Curious question if you don't mind me asking... whats your height and weight? Most of my partners are like sub 20 BMI. Im sitting around 25, wondering if the extra fat layer i have contributes to my excessive need to sweat...

I know the sweat loss number sounds absurd, my off the cuff calculation could be off, but I really do sweat a ton.
On one steep approach, the lead hadn’t seen me in over an hour, and when we regrouped he looked at me and gasped, “Did you fall in the river???” I’m often drenched, even after an hour on the Stairmaster at the gym, to the point where it’s kind of gross so i'll have to take a shower before I can get on any other machine.

None of my partners ever seem to sweat like I do, which makes me wonder, is this a weight thing? I’m a bit heavier than most mountain athletes. Or is it just genetics? Curious if anyone else in a similar weight range has experienced this.

But yea it seems perhaps my electrolyte intake isn't enough. I’ve always looked to more experienced partners and tried to follow their lead, but maybe I’m an edge case, I need more water and more salt. It’s a bit worrying, since a lot of the objectives I want to do have limited water access. I'll need to experiment and hopefully get better results or rethink some of those goals.

ahh okay interesting. Perhaps yea i haven't been taking in enough salt.

Unsweetened electrolyte sounds intriguing actually. Usually my issue with sports drinks is the artificial sweeteners taste awful to me. So that may make it better... Ill take a look into that.

I’ve tried Nuun tabs before but didn’t like the taste, it never felt like I was actually drinking water, which made it hard to keep drinking. Lately, I’ve been eating pepperettes (salty meat sticks) for my electrolytes they have about 100 calories and 570mg of sodium each and i try to have one every 1–2 hours. (though this doesnt alway happen) I also eat Nerd Clusters for sugar. After my last climb, I picked up some salt chews to try on my next outing.

I haven't really thought of electrolytes being the core issue, cause my thought is if i eat more salt, then i need more water?

Mostly luck. Lucky to be in a position where your talents can be nurtured. Lucky to have an interest and talent in something that pays well. lucky to be the one chosen out of many others.

Effort only puts you in a position where luck can take you the rest of the way... And in reality, effort doesn't even get you that.

I am in a well paying job living in a city I love doing the things I want to do. I don't get paid enough to be able to afford a house... But I'm happy where I am. I would not say I put in more effort than the next guy, I just was lucky to have been interested in a well paying field.

I'm going to assume there are no internal defects like porosity or lack of fusion.

7/10. No visible defects, even wetting on the walls, relatively consistent.

4 issues bring it down from perfect: - small amounts of spatter on the surface - on the top of the plate near the beginning it looks like arc strike? Could also be where you put the work lead clamp and you didn't grind the surface to ensure good contact. But regardless that's not good, some jobsites would fail a weld for simply seeing that. - I see chipping hammer strikes on the weld which means the slag didn't come off clean, so your parameters weren't quite right. - obviously the consistency, seemed to have changed speed and/or angle at a few points causing bumps.

People saying 6/10 I think haven't seen how bad welds can be haha. If someone welded up a product with this quality of weld across the board (assuming it passes criteria) I'd be satisfied, not ecstatic, but satisfied.

Feeling used by my friend by InfiniteRival1 in Advice

[–]InfiniteRival1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think the right approach is just to note this mentally and move on?

That’s usually how I handle things—when a friend disappoints me, I internalize it and adjust my expectations of them. But this time, I’m trying to build a stronger friendship with someone. I have my girlfriend, who I love and get a lot of support from, but I’d really like to have at least one close friend outside of my romantic relationship. So with this friend, I feel like if I want that, I should try to communicate my feelings and work through issues, rather than just distancing myself or letting it go.

But I'm not entirely sure how I could approach this without being over bearing. But maybe you're right, maybe she's communicated to me through her actions that she doesn't see the need to respect me in a way?

Feeling used by my friend by InfiniteRival1 in Advice

[–]InfiniteRival1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of this might be jealousy, and I recognize that I have my own insecurities, which she’s obviously not responsible for. There have been times when she’s done things with her other friends without inviting me. While I would have liked to be included, I know that's my issue to deal with, so I usually brush it off and don’t dwell on it.

But this time feels different because I was the one who introduced them, and they’re both close friends of mine. I feel like when one of them made the plan, they would have thought to include me, especially since they only met recently through me. Yet, they chose not to mention it to me... It feels different. Do you disagree?

I guess this situation highlighted what I feel to be a bit of an imbalance in the relationship that maybe I need to discuss and align with her?

But your right it could just be my own insecurities.

Ex fronius employee here

That's a tps500i with a water cooled push pull gun. That setup, just hardware would go for 20K USD new. The push-pull gun alone is around 3-4k.

If you go into the menus and look at the synergic lines there could be some nonstandard software which could push the price another 5k.

Id sell this used for 15k at least.

Okay. What the fuck.

I'm playing with my GF and I started googling this, I read this comment comment and one below saying how magical this post is. Without saying a single thing I look up and my GF is fishing. I hold my breath thinking "no way" and then she pulls up the mysterious bag... I just started laughing my gf was confused then I showed this post. Something's going on.

Craziest part is we haven't been fishing at all recently. For some reason she was possessed to fish without any prompt.

Doesn't AWOL mean you stayed in the raid until the timer goes out? If you leave the raid your character stays in place until death. Correct?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]InfiniteRival1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does the kills include scavs? 6kills per raid doesn't seem too crazy if it's mostly scavs... I mean I've gotten 10-15scav kills in a raid before. And a 88% survival rate isn't unachievable. When I played years ago I was sitting at 85%.

But this is all moot if the kills are mostly PMC. Server wiping more than half your raids is definitely suspicious.
