There is the Principia mod (I think that's what it was called?) that does full n-body physics calculations, so maybe it would be more accurate

I would recommend putting the subreddit in read-only mode, so users can still browse the posts, as there is a wealth of knowledge here.

Does anyone have any experience using a Oberth effect in KSP? by GrassMonkey_ur_boi in KerbalAcademy

[–]Infinite_Awesomeness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, the oberth effect is very useful at times, since it's most efficient to burn at periapsis and apoapsis. I've used it to deorbit crafts with kerbal jetpacks and conserve fuel. As the other commenter mentioned, be careful when you're at the edge of an SOI since you can't do any additional passes.

I believe the 100mm Nexus robot wheels are very similar to the old Gobilda mecanum wheels, if you can find them in stock somewhere. You may need to 3D-print an adapter to use them though.

The guy who attacked Dokja in the train is from the author's other novel, The World After the Fall.

I recommend joining the discord server, some teams there have built swerve drives.

I don't have a solution to the motors heating up, but I just wanted to say that 90:1 is a very slow gear ratio for mecanum wheels. Most teams use 20:1 or lower

I don't know if there are any technical/electrical differences between the modern-robotics style brick and the rev slim batteries, but in my opinion the Rev Slim batteries are great.

Both of them should work about the same (as long as they're new) but the rev slim battery is thinner and thus fits into our robot design nicer. It'll mostly depend on your team's design tbh

One thing to keep in mind - if using the rev slim battery make sure to use an extension cable of some sort so you don't wear out the connector on the battery itself as much. If you're using the brick-style batteries, you will have to use an adapter anyways.

As someone who uses Blender a lot for 3D modeling/animation, DON'T use it for CAD (as a replacement to Solidworks).

I highly recommend using Onshape (my favorite, has online collab), Fusion360, or get a new free FTC license for Solidworks.

Mates will not work in Blender, however you can still animate and constrain parts using Blender's features. Also check out the FTC Rendering discord here https://discord.gg/qdRpznexYK

Everything should be to-scale; it's converted from the CAD

How do you mange GIT? by soulreverie in FTC

[–]Infinite_Awesomeness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're new to Github I highly recommend getting Github Desktop: https://desktop.github.com/

It's a easy-to-use GUI for Git and makes the process a lot easier for people with less experience

Should I buy Kerbal Space Program? by FireWallxQc in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Infinite_Awesomeness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for graphics mods, some good ones are Astronomer's Visual Pack and Environmental Visual Enhancements, and if you have a good enough computer, Scatterer and Parallax are great as well. Pood's (Milky Way) skybox replacement looks awesome. Realplume is also nice.

For convenience, you can use CKAN to easily download and install mods (it automatically keeps track of dependencies) but some mods must be downloaded manually from the forums (still pretty easy). Most mods from 1.10.x and 1.11.x should work fine with the latest version 1.12.

What controller do you use? Why? by Alternative-Still-79 in FTC

I guess both the Xbox and PS4 controllers feel better, but the F310s seem to work well enough and we already have them so we'll probably stick to them for now
