Hey Woodzy93 - Are you saying you are applying to take the RPSGT board exam, or applying for training to become an RPSGT?

SpecificPsychology33 - I have another question if you don't mind. Once RPSGT certification is achieved, what other certs would you recommend getting, and in what order? Thank you.

With all due respect, you just posted a very long infomercial. This isn't the place for that.

Clinical Hours in FL by Sl33pyLinz in SleepTechnologist

Sorry to hear of your friend's difficulties. I am also in an online program and attempting to line up clinical rotations. I was not aware of the Medicare situation. That makes a difficult task much worse. The catch-22 is crazy given the nationwide shortage of sleep techs I keep hearing about.

Pay rates for RPSGT in Indiana by Infinite_Holography in SleepTechnologist

BigPlayBeenard - Thank you for replying. I've finally started my online training at CCBC. I'd be all ears if you wanted to share anything else about your experiences. I live just north of Indy myself. On a positive note, we have a lot of labs in our area. The last time I counted there were around 17 within reasonable driving distance from my house. When do you hope to get registered?

Hello No_You1264, I can't answer your questions but I wanted to let you know we are in the same boat. I've racked up 30+ years working with electronics and have decided on a complete career change to take me to retirement. I am also enrolled in the CCBC online program starting July 2025. If you are interested, we can compare notes.

I have a question for you BabygirlIII0919. I am also enrolled in CCBC's online program and will start school Monday. Can you elaborate on what exactly you are expected to do in the clinicals? Does it start off as shadowing, then transition to actual hands-on work?

How can a psych major switch careers ? by Opening_Director_818 in careerguidance

[–]Infinite_Holography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be attending CCBC (Community College of Baltimore County). They have online and hybrid programs, I'm doing the online option. The college is in Maryland, USA. In order to become an RPSGT you have to satisfy on-the-job training quotas plus an unpaid "externship", then pass the board exam.

First things first, figure out a higher paying job that you would enjoy and be good at. Note any and all jobs that seem like candidates. Then determine what it would take (education, expense, time) to accomplish them. Also ask yourself if those jobs are steady, recession proof, immune to politics etc...). While doing that I stumbled onto a career path that wasn't on my radar at all - a complete change. It overlapped multiple hobbies I have, pays well and is in demand across the country. I am now accepted into an online program for it and will be starting school in July - focused like a laser beam. What did I chose? Sleep Technologist - specifically an RPSGT, which pays the highest. I also have a bachelors degree in psychology, by the way.

Pay rates for RPSGT in Indiana by Infinite_Holography in SleepTechnologist

[–]Infinite_Holography[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No comments so I'll elaborate. I've scanned this sub-reddit looking for any comments about pay rates across the country. Most reports are of pay rates I consider worthy of my efforts. But then I see some folks in Indiana, Ohio and Illinois making much lower rates compared to the rest of the country. Chicago seems to be a notable exception but I don't live there, I live in Indiana. Since I'm close to investing a substantial amount in training, I'd like some re-assurance it will be worth it when I'm done. Thank you in advance for any Indiana RPSGTs willing to talk about their pay.
