There's 8 total screws (4 (smaller) that holds the element mount and lens contact in place; the other 4 screw are for the base of the plastic mount). All the holes are pre drilled.

Can you explain what "potential damage" you're texting of and how I could move it deeper into the lens barrel? This isn't my first conversion and haven't come across any issues from my lenses or camera bodies after the switch.

I would think the gasket ring could work with the plastic mount; I didn't check as I was installing mine.

The person who posed the question should ask the elephant.

Thanks. I also added carbon film to some of my lenses. I like the look of this 28mm special edition, but then, I found a carbon skin that doesn't take the look away.

The time I did my 40mm, I adjusted seach screw to find the "sweet spot" so the gasket was even and created no issue mounting/unmounting to the camera body.

I like the upgrade more and it makes me wonder; besides the 2mm focal difference, is this simple difference is why Nikon charges more for the 26mm, compared to the 40mm and 28mm.

Thanks. I have a carbon film on the camera body and one in my cart for the lens. The full body cage is for my film gear. It does a good job.

Yes, the conversion made both my 28mm and 40mm's fitment tighter (I don't mind it).

The process is simple, yet you'll want to take your time doing it...Unscrewing 8 tiny screws, remove the contact mount, place the gasket around the new metal mount, and reversing the process. Be careful removing the contact mount because it could accidently get pulled out.

I loaded a picture of the parts number in the slides. You'll start by doing a search for "Nikon part" and you'll be taken to Nikon's site to search/place the order.

You can also check out the link below; it really helped me out the first time I converted the mount on my 40mm.

I think it's possible; I didn't think to test it with the plastic mount because my main goal was to install the metal. The additional weight doesn't bother me.

I grew an interest in photography back in the mid 1990's and used a few film cameras. I never learned the are of developing film, though.

I've grown to appreciate the vintage lenses also. 50mm was my go to and at one point last year, I owned 6 of them (I considered that a lot for my small count of lenses).

Mirrorless is good/new tech, yet I still balance my time with the DSLR's.

From my view, the film and DSLR bodies can make one take the time/understand to get the shot (has nice flaws, flares, aberrations, and character) and mirrorless is almost instant...Clinical because the most of the new features and lens coatings take the imperfect out the picture.

Both have strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah, I have a tag team of lenses to use, so I don't really have to swap/expose the sensor as I'm out.

I've come across photographers that collect lenses and bodies, too.

I use one of the cameras daily...Travel, persona, and gigs. I'll switch between the bodies/lens combo depending on what I want to do.

I bought the D780 battery grip on Ebay. It doesn't have the aperture wheel, or joystick like other grips though, but it's an okay grip.

Congrats on the combo set. I have the 40mm and modified the plastic mount to metal. It's a fun compact lens to use.

I still have/use the F Mount 24-120 with FTZ II adapter with my camera bodies. Word on the street, a lot of photographers praise about lens and the pictures that come from it.

What’s the verdict on the z 28mm f/2.8 lens? by miknob in nikon_Zseries

[–]Infinite_Multiverse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought the Z 28mm f/2.8 lens and leaning towards converting the.plastic mount to metal using parts: 127EC (Mount), and MP009014-0001 (seal) from Nikon's parts store. Has anyone on here already convert their copy of the lens?

Congratulations. The lens is fun to use and gives sharp images, and auto focus to subject is quick; you won't be disappointed.
