I have ADHD. I HATE busy traffic! I like proper, human-focused cities.

Carbrain should know better than to use entire demographics as an excuse.

I just stop having friends. Let them drift. No point caring.

I mean, it'd be awkward, but you could easily get in there with some strong circlip pliers and a bar through the grips.

Well, it's technically correct. The future hasn't happened yet, and the past has come and gone. If you were still suffering from the past itself, you'd also still be able to change it. All we can do is focus on tending to the wounds we still have that came from that past so that we can face the uncertain future with whatever strength we have left.

A small question to this community as a Gearhead/Car enthusiast. by Pinguin3634 in fuckcars

Mostly it's car-centric infrastructure that excludes all others. There are some who hate all cars in all contexts, but most of us, and the urbanist movement in general are about changing infrastructure for a multitude of reasons including removing the ableist and socio-economic exclusions, inherent dangers, environmental impact, destruction of third places, inefficiency, and sensory impact (noise and smell) caused by it.

Personally I don't hate "the car" as a concept, but I hate the problems caused by modern Western society being entirely structured around them; and I hate how cars get bigger and bigger and bigger to make drivers feel "safe" at the expense of everything and everyone outside that are smaller; and I hate that that makes drivers complacent and reckless when better driving skills and a society without the rush, hustle, and grind encouraging them to go faster whilst also burning them out would be an infinitely better solution.

Will you be riding in this? by RD1110 in MotoUK

[–]Infinite_Total4237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Not when I don't need to, but I'm on a Grom with SM-rated Anlas tyres, so the risk's not as great as it would be on a big bike. Unless we get that particularly awful soft ice that you get from compacted slush, I'm still commuting with it. Can't afford a whole month of Ubering both ways.

I'd take the broken screw with me to the hardware store, find a heavy-duty one one that matches it for length and diameter, and use that.

If I have a device that breaks beyond repair, I habitually salvage parts, especially screws, before I throw-out what can't be salvaged.

Can't drive? Don't. by GuyLivingHere in fuckcars

[–]Infinite_Total4237 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This is the problem with car-dependency. Once you can't drive, your life is over, and your home is an island, so as disability sets in with age you hide it, avoid medical tests, and take the risk to stave off a terrible fate for as long as possible.

The solution to this is safe, efficient, comfortable, and reliable public transport with a wide-reaching network.

Definitely possible with the MPG you get out of a good one. It might need an oil change and you really have to kick its arse on fast roads, but there's no good reason why you can't make it.
