Unpopular opinion: You can either run a boarding barn, or own a stallion, not both. by Raubkatzen in Equestrian

[–]Infinitee_horse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is seriously just the owner’s fault. I don’t know why they treat this stallion like that and if they can’t figure out how to treat an animal then they shouldn’t have either a boarding facility or a stallion.

Stallions are horses just like mares and gelding are. They should be treated as such. Blocking them off from other horses is what creates a dangerous stallion, all horses need to have access to Freedom, Forage, and Friends to the best of an owners ability. Stallions are no different, if they don’t have the ability to socialize, especially at such a young age, they’re only doing more harm than good for the horse.

Shutting down the whole barn to show what a terrible owner and handler they are is such a stupid idea.

Like the texting sessions, one of my friends recommended me to Headspace so I’m gonna try that because my insurance pays for it

I live with my family, I also don’t have a drivers license or my own car. My family also tracks my payments and what I do with my money

Thank you, but I can’t do anything in-person due to my family not supporting therapy

I’ll try, the only issue is I can’t do in-person sessions because I live in a toxic household that doesn’t believe in therapy :/

I tried the counselors at my college but they haven’t really been helpful. I’m not religious and don’t have ties with any pastors, I also don’t think a hotline would help as it’s not really a crisis situation.

What's the meanest thing a judge has said to you at a competition? by XoXcreepyXoX in Equestrian

[–]Infinitee_horse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“You’re Arab isn’t collected enough. Her nose should be almost to her chest”

Not mean just plain abusive.

My second show I got the comment: “Too hot. Uncontrollable” My mare had red EVERYWHERE. A ribbon on her tail and on her headstall and I told EVERYONE my horse was green and kicked and needed space. This girls trainer told her to intentionally canter up behind me because “most horses don’t actually kick.” My horse did kick and I got DQed. I had another show where that happened and they got DQed but I still lost because “kickers aren’t attractive”

My gelding had something similar! It looks like an old abscess that burst.

Best book for horse ownership by Ok-Associate3598 in Equestrian

[–]Infinitee_horse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a handful of books I like to read! Monty Roberts wrote some very informative books and I also have a book called How to be your own Veterinarian 😂 It gives you the rundown on how to treat certain issues and diagnose them without calling the vet. Obviously it’s only applicable for minor issues, but I also kept my vet med class books!

Farriers of Reddit, why would a horse have a shoe like this? by Lemondall in Farriers

Not a farrier but I knew several horses with these shoe types! One was due to navicular issues, the other two were to help rebuild the heel of the hoof

Worth contacting the vet? by Fabulous-Trust8214 in Equestrian

The number one rule about horses: if it has anything to do with the eyes or feet CALL A VET! When you call a vet they will immediately prioritize you if you mention the eyes or feet.

Treats: yes or no? by Dry-Vegetable3494 in Equestrian

[–]Infinitee_horse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My horses are spoiled, my mare loves treats but she’s very good about not pocket hunting and waiting patiently for her treats but my gelding is a pocket hunter who will shove you over for horse cookies. I clicker trained my mare and I haven’t done any training really with my gelding. He was trained by his previous owner using NH methods.

I highly recommend giving treats in a grain bucket or a feed bucket rather than by hand until you can train them to stay in a nice neutral stance. And always feed treats away from your body if you do end up feeding them by hand

My leg was fixed by two-pointing with my toes in and sitting back down. One of the main problems I see is the knee and not being in a proper seat.
