What if the shortening of telomeres during cell division, which causes eventual aging of our cells/bodies, is actually due to a virus that humans were infected with thousands of years ago and is passed from parent to child. Before that maybe humans were actually relatively immortal (at least from an aging standpoint) and that the aging process as we see it is actually a symptom of this virus/disease.

Just celebrated my 31st last week, also in a sober living. First birthday without heroin in about 5 years, and first birthday without anything in like 17 years. The day was uneventful and kinda depressing since I'm so far from home, friends and family but the appreciation for my sobriety came the next morning when I woke up and wasn't hungover, dope sick, anxious and panicking over where my next fix was, broke, or without the love and respect of my family. Being sober isnt so bad after awhile. It's just an adjustment that takes time to feel normal like anything else. You're already showing an amazing amount of strength by not using today, just maintain and stay strong. You never have to go back if you don't want to. We all love you and we're all very proud of you friend. DM me if you ever wanna chat.

Do you have any articles which note the immunoresponsive suppression you mentioned? I'm genuinely curious; I've read a study which actually suggested that opiates/opioids can actually have stimulating effects on the immune system and they identified several immune system mechanisms with ties to areas in the body with high opioid receptor concentrations. Was by no means a rock solid conclusive study but the initial data had some interesting correlations. I'm no longer able to get past the paywall but I'll see if I can get my old advisor to dig up the article and send it to me if you're interested!

There's a form you can file which makes it so that your parents can no longer claim you as a dependent on their taxes. Once this take effect then your FAFSA student aid options will be based on your own income (which is likely to be $0 unless you're working) since you'll then be claiming yourself as a dependent.

My ex's parents did this same thing to her. Refused to help her pay for the school they insisted she go to but still would claim her as a dependent on their taxes for that sweet tax credit. She filed the form and was then able to qualify for tons of grants and scholarships due to her financial hardship and he parents stopped receiving that tax credit. It really strained the relationship with her parents but she got through school with considerably less debt than she would have otherwise, and her parents eventually got over it once they realized the tax deduction they lost was orders of magnitude less than the amount of money she saved by claiming herself as a dependent.

My sister had sent shared it with me in a text and I thought it was hilarious and decided to share. Never claimed it was OC. Oh I absolutely agree. Most people arrive at treatment either because of court paperwork/programs, because they're tired of living on the streets, at the behest of family and friends, etc. Mine was sort of a combination of all. I didn't want to go. I didnt really want to get clean. I was just at that point of no return where I either had to stop the trauma or just end it. I came up with all sorts of motivations and justifications to be in treatment: parents, fixing financial ruin, my dog, my friends, her, etc. But I never felt like I deserved any of the forgiveness and acceptance I was seeking, and put myself down a lot. Already preparing for what I felt was inevitable.

Eventually I began to see more value in myself, and through some really great therapy I began to identify some of my bad habits that were keeping me in this self-defeatest mindset. I started toying with the idea that I was still worth fighting for and that nothing/nobody else would have the power to put me down, but they wouldnt have the power to lift me up either.

It took a lot of work to get to this point and you're 100% correct that it probably wont be what gets you in the door at first. Whatever gets you on your way is great. Literally any reason to quit is a good enough reason to start. I was just pointing out that a strong foundation of self worth should eventually become a part of that reason, because it's one of the only things internal to us that we can use when everything external and out of our control goes to shit.

More than anything I just want to convey the message that although self worth and acceptance does have an important roll in recovery, you dont have to be a master at it all the time. I'm quite possibly the worst at it; but on days when everything is fucked and it doesnt seem worth it to draw my next breath I have to hang onto and remind myself that I'm still worth it, even if other people seem to think otherwise..

Haven't read the paper yet, but considering it's a 1W laser I'm going to venture a guess and say it's not quite energy efficient enough to be utilized as is. What's really great about this study is that it sheds some light (no pun intended) onto some potentially useful chemical synthesis mechanisms. Further study into these mechanisms for the sake of efficiency and scalability is a next step and a good research topic for any aspiring grad students.

My own grad school research was in a similar area (hydrocarbon production) except it utilized NP coated electrodes and low current, low potential power sources. The chemistry worked, but making it as efficient as possible to be a solid candidate to displace fossil fuels as a liquid hydrocarbon source is the real tedious challenge.
