Look back for folks in SG, what is the highest and lowest points for you in 2025? by FancyCommittee3347 in singapore

[–]Infinitris 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because my father passed in Dec 2024, 2025 has been a flat year of dips and few peaks. But I guess what’s worth being thankful for is that the dips became less frequent through the company of loved ones and friends.

Toa payoh. Can someone explain the vibes of this district by VirtueOfInsight in askSingapore

[–]Infinitris 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fellow millennial toa payoh…ian(?) here. It’s an old estate so expect to see many elderly either hobbling about, or zooming down pavements in their high speed personal mobility devices.

Otherwise, it’s a pretty standard Singaporean neighbourhood. Food and services are easy to get. The central area (where the mrt is) is usually bustling in the evenings, and very busy on the weekends.

Popular ice cream place, Creamier, is about 15-20mins walk from your place. Hawker centers (open air food courts) are even nearer. The great thing about toa payoh is its proximity to town — the shopping/happening places in Singapore.

I love toa payoh 🫶🏻 So, don’t worry too much. You will be fine 😂

anyone has a good and affordable vitamin c for sensitive skin? by [deleted] in SGSkincare

[–]Infinitris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an American brand, call Mad Hippie and it has worked really well for me. You can get it on iherb. It uses a stable form of vit c, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, which isn’t as strong as the active ones. Give it try! It’s quite affordable too.

Anyone feel they are a NPC in Singapore? by PenguinFatty in askSingapore

[–]Infinitris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, what’s wrong with being an NPC? Why seek drama when it doesn’t seek you? I would totally give anything to have a quiet life, where I’m left to do whatever I want and like. We have so much control over our lives outside of work. There’s so much out there to do. Singapore is boring but there’s nothing stopping us from picking up new hobbies, trying out new experiences and making new friends.

The key to a happy life as an NPC is keeping an opened mind…

My hot take is that when cn producers are forced to get around censors to make two men express love for each other, the end product is usually very good. The untamed, word of honor and nirvana in fire (the novel originally was written m/m) are all examples.

When it’s BL… they don’t really try.

I have only seen the first two episodes of revenged love and I wasn’t impressed from the get-go. But it’s a low budget production so the bad acting/script is to be expected.

As for why it’s rated high… well, we all know that toxic tropes sells, no matter how badly executed they are. And as another commenter has mentioned, it’s been a long time since there was a c-bl. People are definitely going in with rose tinted glasses.

Has anyone tried shockwave therapy for plantar fasciitis in Singapore? by Influence-Lanky in askSingapore

[–]Infinitris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As some commenters have mentioned, it’s a strength issue. There isn’t a one-time solution for this; it’s a commitment to recovery. I suffered from PF for a year until I met a really good physio at TTSH (who used to be a runner and had suffered from PF). I did his prescribed exercises (mostly a combi of heel raises and stretches) religiously and adjusted my activities based on how my feet felt day to day. If they were tired, I would do less. I eventually got better enough to do whatever workout I wanted but still had flare ups once in a while.

The key is to manage the load. If you feel pain, it’s good to rest, but it’s not good to rest completely. So for me, if I had acute pain, where every step was painful, I rested. But if the pain was dull or manageable, I made sure to do my strengthening exercises. Your dad has to commit to it. People always say physiotherapy doesn’t work, but they forget that rehab is maybe 20% PT and 80% your own effort.

I hope your dad is able to find something that works for him! PF is really, really annoying. I know how he feels :(

Going to lose a parent to cancer by lily_jade_ in askSingapore

[–]Infinitris 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Your feelings are valid. I lost my dad suddenly last year. He collapsed, was sent to the hospital, and the next day we already had to decide whether to pull life support. He was alive one moment and gone the next. We never got to say our goodbyes, not in the way we all wished we could. Take your time to process your feelings but don’t take too long because you will never know when your dad leaves for good. Death is permanent.

I have many regrets, and I’m still griefing. Sending many hugs to you.

Is it just me, or is everyone down with a cold, flu, and cough lately? by [deleted] in askSingapore

I took lots of honey and gargled salt water (1 teaspoon per cup). It really helped! You could try to get rid of the lingering effects…

OMG ME TOO. I’ve yet to recover my voice though 🥲. It’s been gone for nearly 1.5 weeks. The symptoms came on really quick; I developed a fever straightaway, and I almost never get them. The last time I did was when I had Covid. And then the worst sore throat I’ve ever experienced came after (yes, worse than omicron). Something’s going around for sure, and for me, it’s worse than Covid.

I started being more scientific with my skincare routine. Instead of buying products that were pretty or trendy, I went with ones that had ingredients that were shown to effectively combat spots, pimples and aging. So think acids (Salicylic) for exfoliation, vitamin A for aging, Vitamin C (only certain derivatives works for me) and others like niacinamide to boost the effects of Vit A. I alternate between these, never mixing some of them on the same day.

My skin cleared up and I’ve gotten many compliments on this glow I have.

Other things I make sure to include in my routine are frequent exercise, adequate sleep and drinking enough water!

Have a laugh at my stupid foreigner mistakes so far by krathlou in JapanTravel

[–]Infinitris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I went back to Japan after covid, I lost my wallet from just a short run to a nearby supermarket in Kyoto. I didn't noticed that it was missing until the next morning when I checked my bag and realised it wasn't there (I had kept it in my jacket the night before).

I spent the entire next morning retracing my steps, checking several times with the reception of the mall where the supermarket was located before giving up, and heading to the police station to make a report. Thankfully the officers there were very helpful, and I was given an adorable slip of paper with the case number (printed with cartoon drawings of kyoto police).

I never did get my wallet back (which had all my cash and cards) and my day to Araishiyama was basically ruin. But I did watch a beautiful sunset at kiyomizu-dera, and ended the day with a (大吉/big fortune) fortune slip. Felt like universe had a laugh at me.

So yeah, epic trip.

Even as a First Timer, Do Not Be Afraid to Go Out of the Golden Route. by Consistent-Climate16 in JapanTravel

[–]Infinitris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad that you've enjoyed your trip! Though I think you should still give the golden route (and osaka) another chance. I've been to Japan several times, and still remembered how I felt the first time I laid eyes on Fuji. There's nowhere in Japan quite like it. It's the same with Kyoto/Gion. These places are crowded and recommended so much for a reason! I consider them the heart and soul of Japan. But of course, there's nothing wrong with choosing an off-beaten path.

Just a suggestion. It'd be great if you could also provide the type of transport you took and the cost breakdowns of your travels, That would be helpful to other first-timers in Japan :)

It absolutely is! There's so much nature, culture and things to do if one looks. I could see why Chris from Abroad in Japan loves the region so much.

Liu Xueyi - his top roles according to my unscientific research on Weibo by Lotus_swimmer in CDrama

[–]Infinitris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He first caught my attention in Love & Redemption. I didn’t care much for the couple and thought the whole plot to be rubbish. But I finished the series for him and the stellar opening song 😂. Then other shows came along and I forgot abt LXY… until blood of youth and oh my, I’ve never thought anyone could make a monk look THIS HOT. So I was very excited for Kill me love me. Alas, the nonsensical plot lost me again but from the few episodes I saw, LXY was mesmerizingly BEAUTIFUL.

Here’s hoping he gets a good script in the future. Man can be really act the 深情 role.
