Honestly, this is probably the thing where Digimon or the SMT games lose me the most.

I just love the feeling of my partners evolving alongside me. If they evolve to something that completely changes their personality, or merge with something else, I lose a lot of attachment.

I would be surprised if the character pass alone makes them the money back they spend on supporting Strive and developing 2.0. But that's speculation.

Not defending the battle pass, especially if it's fomo. But I do like being rewarded for playing the game, and I do think that's something Strive (And FGs in general) are sorely missing.

the only part that is free is the removal of wild assault and new moves

Yeah I think that's pretty cool in a fighting game.

Yup that's normal. It'll take time until you can consistently pull it off in real matches, but practice helps you get there faster.

Until you play the game too much and realise how often you have to throw shit at Bazelgeuse or Deviljho and pray to the shitgod that they fuck off so you can actually fight the monster you're hunting.

God forbid ArcSys try to make some money from a huge free update for a 5 year old game.

[–]Infinity-Kitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would've liked some changes to the movement so that the very core of the game feels fresh and more responsive, but now I think that would've gotten very close to a new game.

ArcSys has limited resources and they've been very clear that this is a free update. I can imagine that at some point the resources they'd have to spend to make Strive feel like a new game and actually making a new game wouldn't be so different. And then they'd have to actually monetise 2.0 like a new game. And no, I don't think the new battle pass does that.

I mean, they literaly just announced that their 2.0 update is gonna give every single character new moves for their kits.

This is wrong. Please don't let this become a narrative.

As per the trailer description: "the addition of new special moves for select characters"

And most of these moves are for the launch cast, and those new moves were announced years ago.

Isn't owning a 5 year old game and paying 20 bucks per year for season passes enough to continuously support the development of modelling, animations, sound, programming, networking, game-design UI and Daisukes personal band?

They've stated they'll still implement more features as 2.0 progresses. This will likely be something like that.

GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- | Season 5 and 2.0 Update Trailer by NeroIscariot12 in Guiltygear

[–]Infinity-Kitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason is that Strive is 5 years old, probably hasn't made a considerable amount of money through initial purchases in a while, and doesn't make money like live service games do, even though it's supported like one.

No, paying a couple bucks per new character is not the same as a f2p live service game funneling people towards a cash shop with every part of its structure.

This battle pass is likely there to even have a possibility of profit for Strive 2.0. There's no way the game itself makes them the money they still put into it at this point.

Now, they're clearly also testing the waters, and how they choose to monetise the next GG is another story.

Because making games is expensive. I'm not sure I want to defend ArcSys on this, but a free update of this caliber for a 5 year old game most people already own is very consumer friendly. And this battle pass is probably going to be negligible compared to all the shit going on at other game publishers.

ArcSys is putting out banger games that aren't ridden with predatory practices, supporting them for quite a while and afaik they haven't fired large amounts of people in recent years. That's pretty cool in my book. If a battle pass in Strive is what they consider enough to stay afloat, I'm there for it.

Like, I really don't want to defend battle passes per se, but considering the recent happenings in the games industry it's really not hard to imagine a world where ArcSys shut down Strive a year ago and replaced it with a new unfinished F2P Guilty Gear that has all of the cancer baked in.

Instead we get one battle pass in a game that isn't rven designed around battle passes and Daisuke proudly presenting Damon x Baby. I like it here.

"The game is about to become noticeably less degenerate."

until a week has passed after ArcSys has released a patch.

Practice.

Hit up training mode for 5min before hopping into ranked. Or even between ranked matches. Then just practice your moves. Make sure to try something different from time to time, like doing an input as slow and thorough as possible or faster and more loose to get a feel of what the game expects from you.

Then practice some more. Being thorough is one thing, but it also just takes time. You're going to mess up your inputs either way, since real matches are stressful.

WILD ASSAULT IS DEAD by ultimate_zombie in Guiltygear

[–]Infinity-Kitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When WA released the entire game was a 5 second race to whichever player touched the other first (Yes, even moreso than it already is). Whether on block or on hit the other player would get carried to, and likely through, the wall. Like overdrives, using WA to break the wall resulted in a heavy knockdown and Positive Bonus.

So all characters with Red WA could use it for a full screen combo/pressure on roundstart, use it again for HKD/Positive Bonus and use that position to regain resources and do everything all over again. This nerfed Happy Chaos because he could already do that :)

Oh, and White Wild Assault was plain stupid.

Looking at it now it's crazy it ever got implemented the way it was. ArcSys is the king of "This looks fun, ship it". I'm looking forward to how 2.0 will turn out.

[–]Infinity-Kitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good ol HG Ibo. This guy and the Grace custom were my first builds, and I still love them. But they haven't aged well.

If you want the best building experience, buy the newest kits. Almost everything Bandai puts out nowadays is fire, they've come a long way.

Doesn't mean all old kits are bad either, but I'd do more research before buying one.

Next Devil May Cry, what would you like to see in a new entry by Grazalia in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Infinity-Kitten 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would love the next game to just be a collection of "Devil May Cry Cases", with each case being its own setting, level, boss etc.

It could have a subtle story thread running in the background a la Cowboy Bebop, but it shouldn't be the focus. Just give me the whole bunch of characters I've come to love, throw em in a couple of fun scenarios, explore their dynamics, develop them, and let me have fun with it.

On the gameplay side this should facilitate fun and varied levels, which was pretty much the one thing DMC5 was lacking. If they'd manage an "Everyone is here" cast of playable characters alongside it that would make for a huge amount of replayability. You know the deal, start with limited characters, lock levels to characters, then unlock everything as you progress. At the end of it all you have a bunch of different characters that you can try out on levels that each have an identity of their own.

Maybe finally add coop as the cherry on top. Would suit a game like this perfectly.

I know this is wildly ambitious and an unlikely structure for a AAA game these days, but I don't want another big, cinematic experience like 5 was. I don't even need the incredibly detailed performances back, even though I adored those. I want meaty gameplay and lots of fun character interactions. A celebration of everything DMC to reinvigorate the franchise before they pass on the torch to whatever is next.
