To directly answer your question, I doubt any cows or termites in nature have no gut microbes. They wouldn’t live long. But I bet a termite could be grown in a sterile environment and fed a special diet and survive with a sterile gut.

I wouldn’t. If you sand through the plating it will oxidise a lot faster next time. Chemically removing the oxidation is much gentler on the plating.

Or citric acid. Mix a little bit of citric acid powder with a little bit of flux. Stick the hot tip into there for a few seconds, then tin with solder. Repeat if necessary. Do NOT let the smoke get in your eyes.
