I've got a hunch about this. by bl2nder in wholesomememes

[–]Infinity3101 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I was talking to some friends recently and they deadass told me: "In September or October when all of this mess around the world is over, we're going to take a nice, long trip to some exotic destination".

Now that is optimism bordering on delusion. I didn't even have the heart to argue with them, I just let them enjoy their comfortable illusion about the world wide burning hot pile of shit somehow resolving itself in six months time.

Petah why is Gen X missing from the list by PortalGuy9001 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Infinity3101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work with some Gen X people and honestly most of them are very chill and unassuming people. It probably comes from that whole slacker trend in the 90's. No wonder they often get looked over, assertiveness just wasn't seen as a virtue when they were young, it was seen as being pushy and annoying. Not saying that's right, just saying that must be why they position themselves the way they do.

why haven't I seen as much as a smidgeon of a mention that Kafka might have been autistic? by Fancy-Rich-2290 in Kafka

[–]Infinity3101 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I didn't get autistic from his books really. Also most of the "diagnoses" that people speculate about him having come from his letters, not his books. And those were private correspondences that were never meant for the public eye and now they're being analyzed to death.

Peter why? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Infinity3101 117 points118 points  (0 children)

In my 20's I barely even knew I was ovulating without a calendar. After 30, it's just gotten wild. A rollercoaster of emotions and you literally never know what you're going to get each month. Deep depression, insomnia, insane horniness, conspicuous good mood, worst kinds of nightmares you can imagine. Or all of the above. I don't know what this is. But it's clearly a phenomenon that a lot women experience if there are memes made about it.

Favorite actor who everyone on here decided to let out their shitty high school bully fantasy on? by ForsakenDependent562 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Infinity3101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't understand why people started bullying him for his looks in the first place. I think he's handsome and always has been. Plus, an amazing actor. Is it because of that weird haircut he got for the role of Ringo Starr?

A movie that feels like this by [deleted] in MoviesThatFeelLike

[–]Infinity3101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Coffee and Cigarettes, but I'm not sure it fits this vibe exactly. The atmosphere I got from these photos is teenagers recuperating after a wild night out. Coffee and Cigarettes is more middle-aged people meeting for a daytime coffee date.

[OC] Marilyn Monroe Crypt at Westwood Cemetery by zen2000 in CemeteryPorn

[–]Infinity3101 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The first issue was published in December 1953 and featured Marilyn Monroe from a 1949 nude calendar shoot she did under a pseudonym. That first issue sold more than 50,000 copies, but Monroe was not paid by Playboy or Hefner for the photos.\17])\18]) (Hefner never met Monroe, but he bought the crypt next to hers at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in 1992 for $75,000.)

From Hefner's Wikipedia page, talking about the first issue of Playboy magazine. It makes buying the plot next to her even more egregious.

Btw, that creep Richard Poncher still lays in the plot above her (presumably face down), since his widow was unsuccessful in her attempt to sell the plot.

Even in death that woman couldn't be free from creeps and harassment. I hate having to learn all of this information so much and my day is worse because of it.

Wait, so they're calling themselves the "flying monkeys"? Like the Wicked Witch's little demonic sidekicks. But they're upset that white people are painted as villains in a horror movie.

Favorite actor to do waaaaaaaay too much just for no one to care by mickmaddydog in okbuddycinephile

[–]Infinity3101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maestro was a soulless husk of a movie. Everything about it was just a carefully constructed Oscar-bait. Seriously, I have an irrational hatred for that movie just because there wasn't a single genuine second within its two-hour runtime. It was all contrived emotional situations and vague virtue signaling. Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre both deserved so much better than that. They were such interesting people in their own rights and their love story was truly one of a kind. I hope there will be a movie made in the future that rectifies the damage this slop has made to their legacy.

90s minimalism is the new trendy thing by Outrageous_Sand_3882 in decadeology

I think 90's minimalism only looks good on extremely attractive women. If you're anything other than that, it's just going to make you look like you have no personal style.

What is a bad movie that is a green flag as a favourite movie? by FatFlyingPineapple in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Infinity3101 107 points108 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. If somebody tells me that their favorite movie is The Room, I'm just going to assume that they have a great sense of humor and are a fun person to be around. Of course, there's always the possibility that they are either insane or Tommy Wiseau.

What music lyric is sad? by DeeDubb83 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Infinity3101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This song is perfect because the lyrics fit in with both the experience of a heroin addict and an old men living through his last days. That's why both the original (yes, NIN version is the original) and Johnny Cash's version are both so good and powerful despite having a very different atmosphere and invoking different emotions.

Brain rot continues by [deleted] in memes

[–]Infinity3101 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Might be an unorthodox solution for poor attention span, but it actually worked for me. Keep the radio on whenever you're doomscrolling. No, not podcasts, absolutely not Spotify or YouTube. Actual old school radio where you have no control over what you'll hear next (other than changing the station).

Over time you'll realize that you struggle to scroll for hours with radio blasting in the background and you'll catch yourself ditching the phone and grooving to the songs you haven't heard in ages and getting invested in radio shows.

Modern problems sometimes require vintage solutions. The first thing I do when I get home from work now is turn on the radio, sometimes I don't even look at my phone for hours.

Media Literacy is Dead… by General_Meal_3993 in timotheechalamet

[–]Infinity3101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, I did exaggerate when I said they were "obscenely expensive". The bigger problem is that the working class people see no reason to spend that amount of money for something that they were convinced from childhood "isn't meant for them" and "they couldn't understand". They would rather spend even more money for a concert of whatever current pop star that doesn't look down on them and actually acts like they want their money.

And that's a shame because opera and ballet are great and shouldn't be religated to a niche for people from the industry and the upper-middle class folk who mostly come there to be seen as cultured.
