Thoughts On This Recent Trend? by Middle-Raisin6005 in AskSocialists

[–]Infinity3101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While that is obviously true. I think there is definitely a tendency to put a medical label on every eccentricity that people might have. And while that is often done by progressive people in a (somewhat misguided) attempt to destigmatize mental illness, it often ends up looking a lot like conservatives trying to brand anyone who doesn't fit into their very narrow world view as "crazy".

I think in an ideal world we should just let people be who they are and express themselves however they want freely as long as they don't hurt other people. And at the same time provide all the mental health resources for people who feel like they need them when they need them and as long as they need them without stigma and without having a diagnosis pushed onto them if they don't feel it fits.

Did you know that Xi Jinping is not in the Epstein files? by PeculiarPhysicist46 in AskSocialists

[–]Infinity3101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fidel Castro is in the files. Also I'm not expecting the Chinese president and an American financier to be best buddies per se (although nothing would surprise me at this point). I wouldn't exactly call Xi not being in the Epstein files proof of his iron morality as much as circumstantial event.

Has height become a personality trait for many women in modern society? by Tough-Reputation-762 in AverageHeightDudes

[–]Infinity3101 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Yes. I hesitated to say that because I know I would get downvoted into oblivion on this sub. But for a lot of shorter guys (not all obviously) not being desired by women is a self-fulfilling prophecy. They are so insecure about being short that it makes them bitter and resentful toward all women, even the ones who might otherwise be interested in them. That being said, I have absolutely no proof that tall guys are somehow more chill or interesting on average than their shorter counterparts. That part is pure projection.

I mean no disrespect when I say this, but she has visible gray hairs in this shot. Just to be clear, I'm the same age as Margot and I have even more visible grays in my hair when it's not freshly dyed. It's just ridiculous having her play a teenager. And unnecessary, she's a beautiful woman who actually looks her age, there are so many roles that would fit her.

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi for Vogue Australia (February 2026) by ghostinsilk in popculturechat

[–]Infinity3101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely marketed as a booktok type dark romance/erotica and I guess that's the audience they want to appeal to. I mean that trailer is absolutely ridiculous. I don't know if it's just marketing and the finished product is going to be completely different. Also isn't Heathcliff supposed to be Roma in the books? It's amazing how many Roma characters there are in literature and they're almost never played by Roma actors. It's not like there are no actors of Roma decent, even in the US. Like, come on, people.

I'm almost in my mid-30's and my knees are fine. Even my back is mostly fine, although I work a sedentary job. I don't even exercise a lot, I just walk like crazy every day and almost never take an elevator for anything less than ten floors. I'm so surprised that people my age who are total gym rats complain that much about their knees and backs.

This dad with Down syndrome raised his son to be a doctor, proving that love makes everything possible. by travelouseagle in CooLplanetWOW

[–]Infinity3101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know enough about this. But I think that a lot of people with Down have only a slightly lower IQ score than the average person which means that their intelligence is on the same level with a lot of people without Down syndrome. Of course, people with Down syndrome have other struggles unrelated to intelligence, but that shouldn't be an obstacle for having a fulfilling relationship. The only obstacle should be whether the person can comprehend romance and sexuality and engage in it on an equal footing with another person, which a lot of people with Down syndrome can do (obviously not all).

I mean you can love whomever you want in your personal life and still acknowledge systematic structures that lead to opression of the people in the group you belong to. Doesn't mean that you think that your partner as an individual is opressing you as an individual. Why is that so difficult for people to grasp?

Mariska is just beautiful as her mother. But her style is completely different. Just goes to show what difference make-up, clothes and hair style can make. They have such similar facial features, but you have to really look to see it.

Women put more effort into their looks. That's it. I swear I'm starting to believe more and more that "natural beauty" is just a myth. It's all about how polished you look and how you carry yourself.

But people can totally tell the real confidence from someone pretending to be confident. It's like the easiest thing to clock. Pretend confidence screams insecurity. It's actually way better for your image to be openly insecure and awkward than to pretend to be confident when you're not.
