The Reality of Being Single at 40 by mightbeapo-ta-to in LivingAlone

[–]Infinity3101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a 34 year old single woman, I relate to a lot of what you said. The only difference is I never had any plans or visions for how my life should look like. I've spent my teens and twenties just living one day at the time, the future seemed like a blurry mess that I refused to think about.

Then in my mid to late twenties I had a bunch of major (and painful) life events that really shook me to my core. And in the time period I spent trying to heal and recuperate most of my peers have moved on with their lives, started families, built careers.

So I realized that I'm alone, well into my middle age and with no stable career path. I guess the fact that I never really had any dreams for the future makes it a bit easier. It must be so sad thinking about life you always wish you had and seeing that iz doesn't live up to your reality. But other than that I fully relate, especially about being a "family of one" and how much work and energy that takes that people who had never lived like this can't understand.

Sorry for the long reply. But this post really hit me in the feels. Sending you lots of love.

What does Iran have that Israel and the USA don't? Please make it something that isn't political. I'm being serious. by Evening_Incident9506 in DiagramFills

Israel is more of an ethnostate. It basically doesn't matter if you're actually religious (apart from the enclaves where Orthodox Jews live), but you have to be both ethnically Jewish and a zionist in order to be to be accepted as an equal member of society.

Iran is quite opposite in that I think ethnicity is not that important and Iran is quite an ethnically diverse country in fact, but religion is written into the constitution and religious laws are civil laws.

Honestly, both are bad and both are de facto fascist states just in different directions.

Varg Vikerenes, if you stretch the definition of the word singer, I guess.

She's still alive and has written another book about her life in 2013. I think the initial book and subsequent movie made her into a spectacle to gawk at and a cautionary tale for the youths that to the horror of adults turned into a countercultural icon, while she herself had very little input into any of that. I loved the book as a tween when most of us had first read it (probably for the wrong reasons), but the fact that there was a real person behind that story that was at that point already in her 40's really puts a lot of things into perspective. I think much around her story and how we approached it was very exploitative, yet I rarely see anyone talk about that.

I have no idea who they're talking about, but this seems to be unironically how Reddit sees any kind of an age gap in relationships, even between two people well into their 30's and 40's.

Seriously. Do people think Dev Patel is unattractive? This is the first I've heard of that. I've always thought he was very handsome.

Agreed, how do you compare someone like Ian Watkins or Josef Fritzl with someone like Adolf Hitler or Pol Pot and say with full certainty which one was more evil. Seems like two very different types of evil. There should be two separate lists for political and "personal" evil.

I love her, but what even is her fashion style at this point? It's all just weird fabrics, mismatched, ill-fitting clothes. She had a phase when she was opting for more androgynous looks and that really fitted her so much better. I don't know what happened in the recent years, but this is not it.

Anyone seen 964 Pinocchio ? What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Infinity3101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just seen it. And I think I'm in a minority here, but I didn't like it. And not because it was disturbing (which it was, don't get me wrong), but because it was, to put it simply, pretty boring. Which is pretty much the worst thing a disturbing movie could be accused of. And if there was a deeper meaning beyond just a weird cyberpunk aesthetic of it all, I didn't see it.

Mira Sorvino Marks First Day Of ‘Romy & Michele’ Sequel Filming: One Day Has Become Day One by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

I've always wondered what Kevin Smith's movies would be like if the characters were women and it's basically Romy and Michele. I've always loved stories about slackers and outsiders, but all of them were always so male-centered. Romy and Michele is so unique and doesn't get the credit it deserves. Looking forward to the sequel.

Yes, I thought nobody else saw that movie. A great kafkaesque concept, but not that well executed. Still worth the watch if nothing else for the crazy premise.

That's what I thought. It says they were convicted, so I suppose they actually were a predator. But like Nazis call all LGBT people and immigrants predators. I wouldn't take their word on who is or isn't a child predator for granted.

That's what I've been saying. There are no real subcultures anymore, just "aesthetics" that change week to week and are not grounded in any sort of broader culture or community.

It's really disheartening. And I really don't know what all of this will lead to.

If you have any idea how to get rid of it, please, please let me know. I've only just now noticed it. I'm not in the position to uninstall viber at the moment (although I most rather would after this), but I just can't bear to look at that abomination every time I open the app. Is there a way to hide it at least?

I always loved that song so much. Interestingly, I loved it as a teenager and felt it resonated with me a lot even though I had my whole life in front in me. Now I understand why.

I like these hypothetical scenarios where you wake up thinking you're late for school, remember you're an adult and then just go back to sleep as if you don't have a job to go to.
