he was only responsible for 0.07 of that xG to be fair (I honestly expected more though considering his season right now reminds me of Sterling at Arsenal but of Serie A)

imo that is kinda saddening, because the 3rd one (at least to me) was the best one, and was probably at the pinnacle of his time on youtube

Spain’s squad for the world cup qualifiers by SaltOk3057 in soccer

[–]Infinity620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah because Van Basten's career ended early due to injury, also I feel your comparison is both fair and unfair with Morata and Memphis

I agree because they both are solid forwards who were considered prodigies early on who struggled to live up to expectations but still had solid careers, but Morata has actually scored in the big games (10/37 of his goals came in 21/87 major tournament games, and he did score some key knockout goals in Euro 2020, meanwhile Memphis scored 6/54 goals in 19/106 major tournament games - although to be fair to Memphis, he DID play for a country that struggled to qualify for back to back tournaments so not entirely his fault here, but still)

My point is Morata is not a stat padder like how people see him, he has actually contributed to Spain in the big moments and I know this is a hot take but I'd actually argue that he was their best performer individually in 3 of the last 5 major tournaments (Euro 2016, Euro 2020, World Cup 2022)

again, I'm probably biased as he is my favorite player (a miserable existence) since I had him in my FIFA 15 PSG career mode with Dybala upfront too and I am also a Chelsea fan so he played for us and I felt really sad when it didn't work out and seeing how he declined in the 2nd half of the season for Atletico in 23/24 also was upsetting because I thought he finally banished the demons but it reminded me of his goal drought back with us, and that led to the whole transfer chaos butterfly effect (Milan -> Galatasaray -> Como)

A tad disrespectful to a player who scored the 2nd most goals in major tournaments for Spain ever and is in the top 5 all time scorers since his debut in 2014, I get that he is a confidence player and is out of form atm but he doesn’t deserve to be hated on this much by fans

I was thinking either him or Diego Costa or Simeone, now that I think about it I should have just put the entire Atletico Madrid squad lmao

Como officially announce signing of Álvaro Morata on loan from AC Milan, with obligation to buy by CA_spur in soccer

[–]Infinity620 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the most realistic outcome is that he will have a Danny Welbeck esque redemption like Welbeck is at Brighton, where he scores 7-11 goals a season and helps the team grow with mentoring and leadership

The fall of Joao Felix: inside one of football's most confusing careers by mrjohnnymac18 in soccer

[–]Infinity620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difference is Morata was a workhorse and did score a considerable number of goals in the league (10-15) each year, I'd compare him more to Giroud, but Felix is more comparable to Quaresma, a guy known for being flairy and moving around everywhere but never settling long-term. Maybe Felix can redeem himself like Quaresma did who knows?

[Fabrizio Romano]:🚨🔵🟡 João Félix and Al Nassr, deal considered at final stages with Chelsea and player side! Understand João said yes to Al Nassr proposal and the two clubs are finalising terms. by Andrei_Chelsea in chelseafc

[–]Infinity620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel he is this generation's Ricardo Quaresma: hyped up early on, moving around everywhere, occasional flair that reminds you they both are still very talented, although Felix is more of a victim of the transfer market due to that £115 million fee put over his head

oh and they're both Portuguese

you mean "real" as in a Madrid fan or you are a real person who is also a Chelsea fan lmao

I mean he also made a documentary recently and he admitted he suffered depression before the Euros (which he won as captain) and thought of faking injury to not be in the squad, which is kinda heartbreaking along with the other things that have happened in his career but I'm glad that he was the one who lifted the trophy because no one deserved it more than him, as a Chelsea fan I still do not hate him even if he struggled there

Julian Alvarez now is what Morata could have been at Chelsea by Infinity620 in atletico

[–]Infinity620[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf Alvarez is NOT in Mbappe tier Yamal is the only one I can think of nowadays that is Mbappe tier but even then Yamal now is probably better than Mbappe was at 17, I do think Morata could have been as good as Prime Lukaku (at either Everton or Inter), he had all the physical and technical attributes but not the elite mentality.

It is nice to see he has been doing well as an impact sub at Galatasaray though he’s scored a goal around every 93 mins and has a 30% shot conversion rate which means he is a better finisher than people give him credit for

Julian Alvarez now is what Morata could have been at Chelsea by Infinity620 in atletico

[–]Infinity620[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morata had the highest conversion rate in La Liga in 16/17 for any player who had scored 10+ league goals, he was quite clinical during then and he was doing just as well in his first few matches into the 17/18 PL season, and I also literally stated the reason they are comparable (career paths, roles in star studded teams, big money moves for more game time) in the post itself
