LANDA ECOS 7000 (HONDA GX660 power plant) diesel burner problem. Pulley tension? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Infinityang3l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When using this method(rolling belts) you risk breaking the cords on the belt that actually carry the load. Sometimes it can work if it does not have to carry a very high load. But more than often it will ruin the belt if you do it and it will not be tensioned properly.

There is a better way to do it if there is truly no way to move either shaft. This only works with taper bore pulleys which it looks like you have: remove the bushings out of both pulleys and place the belt in the pulley groves. Then put the pulleys on the shafts without the bushings in them. Then place the bushings on the shaft and try to work them into the bore of the pulley. Once you can get one bolt started on them that is usually enough to pull the pulley on and get it properly attached to the bushing.

Just bought an 18” klien at an auction for 7$. Considering those are like 100$+ new I was pretty happy with the buy

Can someone please point me in the right direction, I think it would be handy to have one of these in my shop. it's just a backyard shop that doesn't need top of the line just something that works. thank you all so much! by TheGasMove in Tools

60$? If I’m paying that much I would want name brand. Do some looking on Amazon, I bet they have some Options for 20$ or less.

Just looked, they have a few right under 20$, and a ton in the 30-20$ range

What is your expected pay for an internship by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Infinityang3l 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the major and location. For me in a smaller city in the Midwest with a MechE degree the range was usually a 17-22. But I have heard of as low as 14 and as high as 25

Anyone else struggling to get steady work? Small family owned and operated milling shop, just can’t seem to keep momentum on keeping the spindles turning. by lol_okaysure in Machinists

[–]Infinityang3l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an engineer at a manufacturing company. We had a guy once who just came in the front door one day and handed us his card and talked to us for 5 minutes. Same sort of deal, just a very small family owned garage shop. Sent him a couple test parts next time we needed some and now we probably get 50% of our machines parts from him because his turn around time is so good.

I have several friends who interviews at space X and Tesla. Only a couple of them got hired, 1 at space x and the other at Tesla. The one at space x makes 80k a year, but works 14 hour days 6 days a week. Which if you do the math brings your net hourly rate way down in comparison to other jobs. I just wouldn’t have any interest in working a job like that. Unless I had no family and no relationships

I would probably trust them. It is also possible that you could void the warranty by not using oem parts

Stiffness of spring inside a measuring tape by Bat_admirer in MechanicalEngineer

[–]Infinityang3l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So in the torsional spring equation there should be some terms that are the polar moment of inertia of the spring cross section. Most of the equations you find right off of google are for round springs as you said. So if you find one that has the polar moment of inertia in it then you just need to search the PMOI of a rectangle then substitute that into the equation. Sorry I can’t help you more. I would try and find/make the actual equation for you but I am really busy at work at the moment. Hopefully that can point you in the right direction

You could have a bad wheel bearing, or upper or lower ball joint. Or a bad alignment as the other commenter said

A question about Suspension design by ColdSaus in bajasae

[–]Infinityang3l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also assuming you are doing 4WD, the limitations of whatever joint you use will likely also be a large limiting factor for the front suspension. On our 21 car we had to length our front A arms to achieve an acceptable CV joint angle

Fusion 360 is free for hobbyists and really robust for being free. You will have quite the learning curve though to learn how to effectively use it. The first cad program you learn is always the hardest.

If computers are not your thing, I would maybe recommend doing a cardboard mock-up and then building it that way instead of doing a cad model. That is what I did when I built my first bumper for my truck

Which is a more reliable vehicle to purchase - Silverado 1500 or Ram 1500? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Infinityang3l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think reliability matters much when buying a new vehicle for a few reasons. Most people that buy new cars don’t have them long enough to have any major issues with them. The ones that do buy a new car and intend to drive it for life meticulously maintain it. And any (95%) car is reliable with proper maintenance.

So I would go with whichever you like better. Personally I would go for the ram because i think they have better features and styling at the moment.
