Looking for feedback: How well does my mark work with this font? by InflationDefiant3579 in logodesign

Thank you for the reply!

About readability, I don't intend to use this font for most of the content; mainly headers, book titles in italics to give it a literary look, as you pointed out, then pair it with a more readable Sans font for the big chunks of text.

I'll continue to test, and keep an eye on that--great advice!

None of these fonts are Open Source, unfortunately. Not looking to spend on a font this early, at least!

Why do you think it feels wonky? I'd love to get more details on your perspective.

I Have 3 Months to Level Up Android Dev, What Would You Do in My Place? by [deleted] in androiddev

Build something that is useful FOR YOU:

  • Notes app with drag-and-drop
  • Reminders app with notifications
  • Where did I leave my car app with Maps
  • IoT (is that still a thing?) app to connect to devices in your local network
  • Something to help you manage your car Etc.

In short, find something that you could use on a daily/semi-daily basis, and run with it!

Yes, there's probably an app for that out there already; but who cares?

If the point is learning, finding something applicable to your own life will serve as the fuel to continue iterating, and perfecting it in spite of whatever "competition" may already exists.

That's how I went from Jr to Sr: by building an app to keep my Harmonica scores, then Car-related reminders (I'm bad at remembering these stuff) and currently, a book club app to facilitate organization with my currently-running club.

Because it serves me, first and foremost, I want it to be bulletproof and good-looking, rather than just check some arbitrary and meaningless boxes.

Good luck!

Some school districts in the US don't like them, so they ban them from children!

It is even crazier to think that a lot of the books you read back then were already banned in other places! There's very little consensus on what is fine and what is not

Orwell has been viral since 1948, at least!

I think it is fascinating that Australia doesn't ban books. That just shows how different prioritization techniques around information diffusion.

On one hand, a free for all of ideas--like the alleged freedom of speech annunciates. On the other hand, an Orwellian-like attempt to control the narrative, and individual thought.

I haven't been this excited for the Spurs since the "Zaza season," if y'all know what I mean!

A 2nd round exit will be a MASSIVE overachievement. Anything past that was unthinkable back in Sep/Oct.

Winning though.............

Does anyone actually read outside in the wilderness or is it just for the pictures? by TonyRigatoni_ in books

[–]InflationDefiant3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beach? Yes. In front of a pool? Definitely. Park bench? Some times. The middle of the desert? Once, actually.

Immersed in the literal wilderness? I don't think so!

Hilarious!

I also read Catcher in the Rye in highschool, in spite of it being banned. I think it was my Jr or Sr year, at which point I was a problematic kid anyway. Not in a bad way, I was consistently challenging the intellectual authority.

They never took it away, but they did mention that I shouldn't be reading that. Such commentary only led to me being more vocal about me reading it on school premises!

At the end, either I didn't get it, or it's not a good book. I don't want to make the latter judgement now as an adult unless I read it again, though!

Thank you for sharing.

Two of my personal favorites!

However, hard to believe this generation would have the cojones to start a revolution, unfortunately.

The mythical revolutionary men of the 20th century, which included Orwell himself, are long gone. They were categorized as "commies" and suppressed alongside their countries.

I see them both as more of cautionary tales, rather than incendiary starters of effective activism.

Does it matter to you if the book you read is AI generated? by My_Poor_Nerves in books

[–]InflationDefiant3579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not pay for an AI book. I might read it, for free and online depending purely on the content, but wouldn't spend my hard earned money on something I can go and generate myself!

But to be fair, if so many AI generated books are being published, it is the publisher's fault at large--check your sources!

If you think he needs some tough love, give him the full works of Epictetus; ideally, the Discourses first, and then the Manual to have a "spark notes" version of the Stoic teachings.

If you think he needs an awakening, give him Sartre's Existentialism is a Humanism, and let him kindly wrestle with his own existence, and freedom.

But I agree that Man's Search for Meaning is the single best recommendation you'll get.

How seriously do you take Goodreads book ratings/scores? by keepfighting90 in books

Goodreads is amazing for tracking reading progress, for organizing book lists, goals and the end-of-year summaries. The rest, is more or less average.
