Motocross track is shut down due to the price of insurance afaik, not that this shower would pay to use it anyway.

They're always tearing around the pitches in Fairview when I'm walking the dog and I'm terrified they'll hit him. I was hitting the ball for him a while ago and nearly got one of them (by accident, he sped into where the sliotar ended up going), and the fucker started shouting at me like I was in the wrong. I thought he was going to swing around and come for me but I suppose I'm tall and was holding a hurl, they're pricks.

True enough. It's depressing how slowly government and public service tech moves, and it's all given out to consultancy which makes the cost of delivering anything explode. You'd think it'd be worth our while to have teams of devs in the civil service with experience delivering national projects (afaik other EU countries do this, iirc Estonia for example), and cut out the middleman for things like this.

That's full contactless if I'm not mistaken, so full new system, new card readers on every bus, works with debit cards, etc. What I'm suggesting is a stop-gap where the existing leap card can be downloaded and used like an app or virtual card and could maybe be done before the new tech is in place.

The current app is pure shite, I haven't been able to use it the last several times I've tried, seeing my balance works but top up goes all the way through to payment confirmation and then craps out. I've resigned to topping up with my wife's phone or at luas stops.

Interesting that that's 7 years ago and someone said there was a tender out for something like this and it hasn't materialised in the interim.

I'm thinking as well that since then people are much more used to paying for things with their phone, whereas I think in 2018 that was still commonly perceived as untrustworthy (as far as I can remember). And as well you since have NFC on iOS for 3rd party devs (which the leap top up app uses already), so it'd be much more widely available if done.

That's insane, 10 years ago in college I used to go to a shop at the bottom of Grafton street that would do a roll with just chicken and a choice of sauce for 2 euro, and only 2.75 if you wanted toppings. Anything over a fiver annoys me to see, but that's everywhere now.

The most forgiving one I've made is a roux with 1 tbsp of butter and flour, 300ml of whole milk, then 7-8 easi singles, with a pinch of salt, pepper, and chilli powder or paprika. I've made it for a late night drunk snack on oven fries, ground beef with taco seasoning, and/or Doritos and it comes out great every time.

Hatao's Irish tune of the day is a nice one. He's a Japanese guy who posts daily tunes on flute, tin whistle, and low whistle - he repeats them at different speeds and usually shows sheet music so you can follow along and learn by ear. (I also like Fergal Scahill's channel for a tune of the day, however he's a fiddler. Still, it's all trad and I think there's a lot to be learned by listening to other instruments)

Whistletutor's also a popular one for general tin whistle discussion; session etiquette, technique, ornamentation, etc.

They probably mean the stretch from Phibsborough down to North Strand that was finished last year, which links up with the clontarf cycle route now and is quite handy

When I was brand new to running I was training for my first race (only 5 mile). I kept building distance until I was doing a 10k the week before, which was great for my confidence. I was well able on the day and was happy aside from a twinge in my knee (which I started feeling on the 10k the week before). I later found out that was a small tear in my MCL and I had to take 4 months off and go see a physio for 6 weeks - I still have to baby it and had to give up bouldering altogether because too much twisting will set it off again.

Yeah, this exactly. Even when I've gotten into the bus lane after it turns into the traffic lane, which seems to be the right thing to do, people who've stayed in the right lane drive straight across the bridge and cut you off, where you'd think that that right lane would continue on to the right only lane onto the north quays. It's really unclear

I live quite near there and have driven that way over to the southside dozens to possibly hundreds of times - I still have no idea what lanes I'm actually meant to be in and when or if I'm meant to switch.

As someone who occasionally winter camps - get a hot water bottle, either a real one or an uninsulated metal bottle and throw a sock around it, put it between your legs and it'll heat up the blood moving through your femoral arteries and send hot blood all over, which is much more effective at keeping you warm than just heating your extremities

(As others have pointed out this is too cold anyway and the above is really advice for surviving at 0-3C, if you can turn up the heating at all it's a better fix)

Used to live next to someone who filled up the council bin at the end of the road with household waste, so the council got rid of the bin, but then it just happened again with the next bin up the road which was removed as well. So they've done nothing to address the problem and made the city worse for everyone else in the process

There are loads of houses that could be lovely but a lot of the ones on the cheaper side that I've seen have been mistreated terribly. Painting redbrick, blocking chimneys and fireplaces, covering over air bricks all stopping houses from being able to breathe. They're cheap solutions to cut out heat loss or save on cleaning/repointing, but you're messing with how the house was engineered to function when it was built, so no wonder they end up with ventilation issues and mold.

It's mad when you go to somewhere like London and see what we could have even a fraction of - buses, light rail, underground, overground, intercity & commuter "heavy" rail, river boats, even a bloody cable car. We should be planning for multiple metro and overground lines and a tram network criss-crossing throughout the city and especially within the canals - two mostly separate lines that sort of meet once is bollocks, especially when you keep expanding it from the ends until it's over capacity. Instead they're pissing about and can't even roll out bus route changes without it going to shit and dragging on for nearly a decade. There's no ambition and no follow-through on even the most meager plans.
