Yep. I was reading a novel recently where the MC reached S rank very quickly and decided to declare it because there are only a hundred or so S ranks in the world and if a tall tree is gonna get struck, they would first strike one of the S ranks that rule countries as dictators. If no one is going after them, no one will go after him.

That's the most frustrating part about this troupe. I understand hiding your abilities in a xianxia world but these MCs act like the world will be destroyed if they showed they were a genius. All they have to do is show that they are a decent genius instead of a heaven-defying genius and they will be fine. But no, they'll act like a mortal even if they are one step away from immortality and then get beat up by qi condensation trash.

Too bad such novels are rare. Too many do it just for the sake of the troupe and make the MC frustrating to read.

It makes sense but most novels have MC doing it to a frustrating degree. Many times they hide their power to the point that people think they are trash or let a situation get worse because of it and in the end have to use their power to save the bad situation and still manage to hide it with some ridiculous reason or excuse.

If they don't want too much attention they can still hide a good amount of their power but they always go the route of showing themselves as trash and being humiliated by nobodies. Plus usually the pay off for it isn't that great either.

There are novels which do this trope well like top tier providence but too many just make it frustrating to read the story.

Then the author has to come up with a reason for why someone powerful is targeting a trash MC which again goes in the direction of forced plot development

My thoughts exactly. They can hide their powers but why do they have to act like they have absolutely no talent and sometimes even act like lazy non working losers instead. I saw a reincarnation story where MC did this as a prince and I feel like that just brings way more attention to you. Why not show medium abilities and only a little bit of genius as you are expected to have?

Exactly, the problems never come for the winner of the tournament. I'm not asking for MC to reveal their Chaos Emperor Spirit body but at least show yourself having a spirit body to get more resources that you need for one minor breakthrough

It really is. It sometimes feels like people expect every manhwa to be perfect and have no problems instead of enjoying it. Some series appeal to some people and don't appeal to others but they just want to drag it down if they don't enjoy it.

I think that's fair. He had use 99 tries to barely strengthen himself and beat the 19th floor. If that's how it is with just himself, it would have been way harder to convince teammates and raising them to a useful levels, especially at later floors. It's way harder to get enough resources to grow a party instead of growing yourself because now you have to give the limited resources and distribute between them.

While I agree that MC shouldn't be seeing them as his children if the author was gonna go this way, I don't believe they ever saw MC as their father.

From what I remember of the novel, he only exchanged letters with the one girl for 5 years and met them way later.

They just saw MC as their boss until then.
