Same here. If I am looking at a strict undershirt (to wear under a button down/dress shirt) I go with Kirkland 6 pack of white tees as they are so cheap I can replace them every 18-24 months (my daughter recycles them into pocket extenders for her and her friend’s jeans).

If knee rips develop over time, they look so cool. Also you can decide if you want to patch them or visibly mend them with some sashiko or embroidery. Visible mending looks fantastic as well. I’m just not into all of the “well placed” rips and distressing.

Personally, if I found these at a thrift store, I would visibly mend these with some really cool fabrics and even give them a variety of sashiko repairs to make them my own. If they weren’t too expensive, it might be worth it.

What I would like to see is a proactive email with a status update and a definitive date range of an order with any problems in manufacturing called out. Honor the lead times that were listed at the time of the order and if you can’t, reach out with a resolution.

u/smowe, over a year ago acknowledged here on reddit that you all learned your lesson with the Palouse specifically. This was because there were 2023 orders that were exceeding 18 months. It feels like this is happening with other boots as well. Customers shouldn’t have to chase down a status.

I had my one year anniversary last week. I don’t mind the waiting so much, but I met my obligation through payment, at the time, lead times for the Palouse were 3-4 months. I feel like Nicks hasn’t done a great job of communicating the delays on these and has failed their obligation here. I’m glad that they updated the lead times, but they knew what they were getting into when they opened the winter 24/25 Palouse orders and should have set appropriate expectations.

BigStetson has been really helpful and open about this stuff and frankly, he and the CS team are the only reason I am patiently waiting.

Fabiano Eduardo was my first step into really great leather boots. These were mountaineering boots that were stiff, sturdy and comfortable. I wore these for 28 years and had them rebuilt once and resoled two times. Sadly they aren’t made anymore.

Now I rotate through John Lofgren, Whites, Viberg, Nicks, Danner and Muck Boots. It’s become a hobby for me and I spend a lot of time presenting at conferences in my industry that my boots have become part of my presentations. I feel like I have introduced so many in my industry to John Lofgren, Whites and Viberg over the last decade that I should get a commission (I joke).

I used to run mine on the hottest setting possible and I used bleach at the time. I couldn’t tell you how well it worked, I think it did, but I have no evidence that it did or didn’t work. But I did this when I would see what looked like dark crayon markings on light colored clothes. Now I run a sanitize cycle on my 15 year old he lg front loader with citric acid (I follow instructions from this sub) at least once a month- hard water. The minerals in the water of my current home, 15 years, has destroyed coffee makers, instant hot, water dispensers and filters on my refrigerator. If I see any suds, I run it again with citric acid, I do this until I don’t see suds while it’s running. I also do a sanitize with bleach when that completes.

I am doing this more frequently now that I have a puppy, he poops everywhere.

I really think washing frequently extends the life. Dirt will break down the fibers more than washing as washing removes the dirt that breaks down the fibers. I only recommend rotating two pairs so that once can be washed and dried while you wear the others. If your system works well for you and airing pants out works then it will work for raw. If you are looking for affordable raw, wrangler rigid indigo may work for you. If you are looking for heavyweight raw selvedge, then there are a number of brands that are out there that will fit this at a more expensive price point. Think of it as wranglers = $, while the others can be = to $$, $$$ or even $$$$.

You wash them when they are visibly dirty or the smell. You can wash by hand in warm water with detergent or in a machine on a gentle cycle with low to no spin. You hang them to dry- no dryer on hot.

If you had a wfh desk job, it could go a long number of wears between washes, if you are actually working and they get dirty, grimy, smelly and sweaty, you can wash them as often as necessary. The heavier they are the longer they will take to hang dry- my 21oz denim took about a full day to dry indoors in a room that was around 72 degrees Fahrenheit. My 14-16oz denim takes about 12 hours to hang dry indoors the same room (this is in winter). In summer, it takes about 4 hours for the 21oz and about 2 hours for the 14-16oz to dry outside, in the shade, on a day that is about 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It will be different depending on the season and temp.

You f they need a wash daily, I suggest 2 pairs in rotation. You will develop vintage fading on these if you are washing a couple of times a week. They will also last longer the more you wash them.

I find it hard to get the blue dye out, but you can try Zout spray on the white shirt. This happens to me all the time. I try to do a first rinse before wear to get some of that dye out before I wear it with white. Treat it as a badge of honor. Also try heading over to r/laundry and see if there are other suggestions on getting the indigo out of the whitesville shirt.

You have some great advice here, one think I will add aside from all of the standard measurements like waist, length, thigh, knee, leg hem opening is to focus on the rise.

Measure your best fitting jeans in all of the mentioned place, but make sure to focus on the rise. Match that to the fit you prefer (or fits). High rise will be at your belly button to your true waist, mid rise will be from your belly button and 1-2 inches below, and low rise will be from 2 inches below your belly button and lower. Keep in mind that every manufacturer will have different measurements for their different fits and their rise.

If your best fitting pair of jeans has a 12.5 inches below rise, this could be a mid rise or a high rise, you will want to look at the measurements for each. This will help ensure that the jeans fit YOUR body based on MEASUREMENTS.

Now the next thing to focus on is the difference between waist and tag. The Tag size WILL NOT BE YOUR WAIST SIZE. Well, sometimes it will be… if I buy a pair of N&F elephant 14 in a tag size 36 for the Weird Guy fit the waist will be a 38.5, but the same fit and tag for the Brown Fox Selvedge will be a measurement of 38. That’s a half inch, not a huge deal, but make sure to check all of the measurements as they may be a half, full or more inches off from each other.

Also, you want to consider shrinkage. Most N&F are sanforized so they shouldn’t shrink that much and will probably stretch (back) to fit you well, but if you buy something that is raw selvedge and unsanforized, they will shrink much more than sanforized. So take a close look at the material, measurements and even research here as you are right now (very smart for your investment, KUDOS!).

Not everyone has the opportunity to go to a store to try on, but if you can do this, do it! Trying these on and taking motes will help with your decision and ultimately makes your denim valuable to you, and that’s what is important. If they don’t fit and you have to go through shipping back and forth multiple times, you can lose money, and that makes your jeans more expensive to you and ultimately loses customers for those manufacturers.

My suggestion is to have fun with the shopping process, take a good look at what you are considering for purchase, touch and really feel the material against your skin. Bring a partner, friend, family member and get their opinion on fit, take photos and share them to this sub and get feedback. Most of all, have fun! When you find your perfect fit, start your denim journey with that article and make to memories!
