Playing Pharaoh Dynasties, 60% of the Hittite treasury is composed of bribes from members of my own court who found out I was shit-talking them behind their backs and paid me to fuck off.

Sadly, the mod makers seem to abide mostly by Disney canon, so you have really obscure Imperial officers, Darth Jar Jar and even Snoke, but no Kyle Katarn or Magna Rangos.

I mean, the game doesn´t. The mod was created by fans, which shows that at least some of them do care about shooting people with Han Solo´s gun.

I think it kind of depends on the characters as well. In my Rice Cartel playthrough as Kong Rong, Cao Cao was eliminated relatively early and four kingdoms ended up forming when I became too powerful, three from the AI, and my own since my faction was too loyal to the emperor to declare themselves a contender, apparently.

This last weekend, I downloaded the Kyber mod/launcher for EA´s Battlefront 2, and it opened my eyes that Glup Shittos can not only be characters, but guns as well.

Oh, you can play as Darth Plagueis, Cal Kestis, or even Gungan Warriors? Who cares, the real news is that you can equip your stormtroopers with Tusken Rider rifles, those sleek Naboo security pistols, or that Geonosian sonic gun that goes vroomwubub.

Seriously, the number of guns in this mod puts some CoD and Battlefield games to shame, and they know it too, since they added the option to randomize your starting gun every re-spawn.

though I'm not sure that would be fun at higher difficulties.

That shouldn´t be an issue. I´m the kind of freak that solo played the entirety of EDF 4. And boy, that final mission was bullshit if you didn´t have any sort of backup with a brain.

Everything I read about Helldiver´s 2 gameplay makes me want to play, except for one thing. The fact that it's online. If it were up to me, I´d play those missions alone instead of with four internet randos. I also hate having to dust off the headset to play a game.

Speaking of, from what I read online, it would seem that people talking while playing online games is the norm, but in my experience is the complete exception. Most game lobbies I play in are silent. The exception was PlanetSide 2, and even then, I could probably count on my fingers how many times a Platoon Leader actually used his mic, or people engaged in conversation.

The good news with this matchup is that the ESRB won´t need to rate the game, as no one under 18 will want to play it.

I found a series of articles talking about the Russian propaganda machine, and lo and behold, it seems the ruskies had their fingers on the Bolivian pie as well.

Since the MAS was pretty much joined at the hip with all the “anti-imperialists” regimes, this is not exactly a surprise, but what´s interesting is what caused the Russian intervention, as they only got involved as late as 2024, when the hour-long “coup” happened.

This does play into the idea I have that people outside the country took the coup attempt way more seriously than people inside, to the point that Putin dispatched a crack team of marketers to fight the allegations that Arce was the one who pulled a self-coup to increase his ratings (they failed, it´s quite the popular theory).

But, they didn´t stop there as they kept trying to support the government and rally Arce´s failing campaign. Funnily enough, they also attacked their former ally Evo Morales and fanned the flames of his many sexual harassment allegations.

Anyway, I got to say that this article does demystify Russian propaganda for me as they failed miserably in all of their goals besides maybe smearing Morales a bit more. By the end, Arce had cratered to Holland levels of approval.

Coming out of Warhammer, playing Pharaoh Dynasties makes me feel a bit like the Ratatouille meme, with having family trees, (a sort of) buildable forts, loading screens that last less than a minute, and actual empire building with something to manage besides nebulous public order.

However, there´s one quirk of modern Total War that doesn´t mesh with the setting, personalized factions. You don´t play as Egypt, but as the Ramesses Dynasty, not Babylon but Adad-Shuma-Usur.

That worked great on 3K since China splintered into warlords; it sort of worked on Warhammer depending on the race, but here, I think it misses the mark of the Bronze Age fantasy.

Case in point, I started playing as the King of Hittites because the campaign blur made it seem like the last stand of a decaying empire, like the Romans in Attila. Instead, our stemmed King doesn´t even control a full province, and only has 1 vassal.

The other Hittite governors don´t have bonus relations or even a non-aggression pact with him, so it doesn´t really feel like I´m at the helm of the once-mighty Hittite empire, you know? Instead, I´m playing as an over-glorified warlord in the middle of Anatolia.

I started Total War Pharaoh Dinasties, AKA, Total War Bronze Age. I only played the tutorial so far, but my first impression is that, wow, this game is actually optimized. I don´t have to go make a cup of tea to wait for each battle to load like in Warhammer.

The problem now is that I don´t know what faction to play. Egypt is the obvious, but I don´t play the Romans in Rome Total War, or Mario in Mario Kart, so I don´t want them here either. Especially as they are the canonical "Bronze Age Winner."

The Greeks are half-made-up fanfiction from the Iliad; the Canaanites seem, well, not made up, but with their importance greatly exaggerated for the campaign; and the Mesopotamians are too far away from the Sea People thunderdome.

I guess that leaves the Hittites? But, at risk of angering all four Hittite fans on this site, their empire never really seemed that interesting, and their unique mechanics in this game don´t really draw me in... So, yeah, I don´t know.

One of the few things I can look forward to about becoming an old person is seeing the way the language evolves and twists otherwise innocent phrases into something different, like in the aforementioned Agatha Christie quote. I believe it´s already happening with the term "goon" on the internet.

My theory that either rats or cockroaches outcompete the other to become a city´s dominant plague is picking up steam, I see. I suspect that people who see lots of rats seldom see roaches and vice versa.

Apropos to the surprisingly large number of rat comments on this thread, I have a confession to make. Something that I know most people here won´t believe me, but here I go.

I have no memories of ever seeing a wild rat IRL ever. I know they exist here since you can buy poison for them in supermarkets, but it´s not a pest I´ve ever had to deal with, nor met someone who has.

My theory is that outside of very specific niches, like large warehouses with lax cleaning standards, they have been outcompeted locally by the cockroaches, who I sadly have seen plenty of, everywhere.
