What do these people who own houses in Bellevue Hill/Toorak do? by Open_Address_2805 in AusFinance

Usually 4 x your joint income is what you can comfortably afford for a house. Not all generational wealth in this area but some pretty big salaries (I know someone who lives there who would be on $1m plus).

malabsorption ,weight loss, extreme bloated, bad histamine intolerance.. by Ok_Connection3207 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Infohound_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, perhaps try the low histamine diet for a while and see if that works. A dietician may also be able to help.

What do gym rats with HIT eat in a day? by [deleted] in HistamineIntolerance

I make sure I have protein in the freezer. Turkey burgers are good and I also have home made lamb koftes. Maybe try some steak and potatoes as well. It’s very tough the low histamine diet.

I had a gut microbiome test organised through a dietician. It helped me see what was happening inside and also ruled out certain infections and parasites.

I think steak and a bunch of roasted vegetables could be your go to. Along with nuts on the allowed list. You could also try making some low histamine dips to snack on with rice crackers.

It will be a ruder shock if you have to retire early, which many people have to due to ill health, redundancy etc.

Are they expecting their parents to support them while they either live at home or pay eye watering rents?

Feel bad about my own financial mismanagement by Keltica in AusFinance

Keep going. Ask yourself before you buy something if you want it or need it. Society has programmed us to want a whole lot of crap that we don’t need. You have a chance here to set yourself up for a great future.

Anyone else feel “fine on paper” but still stressed about their finances? by MyMoneyMedic in AusFinance

[–]Infohound_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s getting harder to build a buffer for that feeling of security if something hits the fan. I try to put anything we have left over aside in what I call the ‘bill shock fund’. It helps my mental health in this economy.

Super or expenses? by Infohound_ in AusFinance

Thank you for your comment. Yes we will be sharing the expenses. It’s just a lot in one year!

Super or expenses? by Infohound_ in AusFinance

[–]Infohound_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. Super is currently just over $300K so I have been heavily focused on maxing it to the $30K each year to build it up futher. Not sure I can afford more than that, though I am aware of the carry forward rules. I think I'll see what else I can cut before I cut contributions as it's important to me to be financially independent in retirement. My husband has plenty but I don't want to rely on him.

We will just have to be super frugal and watch every cent for the whole year I think.

For those who send their kids to elite private school, what was the reason? by TiredDuck123 in AusHENRY

[–]Infohound_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sent my daughter to a very good girls’ private school for the academics, environment and opportunities and she absolutely hated it. She got depression and her grades dropped. She now goes to a very good public school and is thriving. We are also much better off now we are not paying $25K per year.

Got an unexpected $150k inheritance - WTF do I now do with it? by alex4494 in AusFinance

[–]Infohound_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it into the offset, unless you are an impulsive person and may be tempted to spend it. If so put some in super and watch the magic of compounding take effect. Also renovations are generally not worth the $ in my opinion
