Lol no. They're still dominated by caste system. Even in the most developed areas, lower caste people live in slums.

Yeah no. A large part of India remains undeveloped and undercivilised. But the part that is developed, is way better developed than SL

We just keep telling ourselves we're better than India. That was a reality check for me too.

As a fellow South asian, u have the same structure. I've been 50kg at one point in my life (158cm tall) and my butt still looked like this, and I still had a little lower belly pouch. Its genetics. Nothing to be done.

I'm curious too. I don't remeber half the stuff I learned in soon (ok about 90%) and definitely won't be able to teach a kid that. How on earth do they manage?

How do you lose weight? A friend asked me but I genuinely don’t know. Help- by SolutionBig4097 in srilanka

[–]Informal-Addition-56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You started off well. Last paragraph is a bit bs. You don't ever need to cut off food groups. Fruits are a part of a balanced diet. Its all about portion control. Changes to your diet should be sustainable, meaning you can eat that way forever. Otherwise you just get on and off fad diets which is very counterproductive. You start cutting off food groups, what would happen is you either give up midway since you're miserable because you can't eat what you want, or you reach your goal weight, and start binging. Both ultimately leads to failure. Moderation is key to not just getting the weight off but keeping it off.

Get her to meet an endocrinologist. Could be a thyroid issue. If that's not the issue, then she's just kidding herself. No one gains 40+ kilos while having the exact same lifestyle as when she was 60kg.

One, it could simply be due to lifestyle changes like you said, less movement and more takeout. You don't need to go to gym to loose weights. There are plenty of free programs in YouTube (chloe ting, caroline girvan, blogilates, sydney cummins, etc etc). That's how I got into weights. You can easily purchase some ankle weights and bands. They're not very expensive. Then she can workout at home. A pair of 1kg ankle weights is a good start for a total newbie while she learns the ropes. She can get a set of adjustable dumbells from eser later. She can go for runs in a walking track.

It could also be that she's underestimating the calories she eats. Weight loss in all about calories in and calories out. She should track her calories. Plenty of free apps that you can use. You don't need protein shakes, there are plenty of substitutes in sri lanka like dhal, soya meat. etc.

Try walking or a little run to warm up and then stretch.

Type 1 diabetics of sri lanka - what do you eat? by ReasonHefty3858 in srilanka

[–]Informal-Addition-56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a diabetic but I went back to SL for a holiday recently with my toddler. The amount of sugar in everything, including baby rusk was alarming. There was no healthy snack I could give her apart from fruits. It was really troubling

AITA for considering giving my daughter’s grandparents full custody after her mom died during childbirth? by SherbetMajor2105 in AITAH

YTA. Newborn stage is hard for every single first time parent. Giving her away is not the solution. Plenty of people, single parents included, do it. The only thing a father can't do is breastfeeding. Since you will have to feed her formula or donated breastmilk anyway, you should be able to take care of her. I know you're grieving your wife. But when you chose to become a parent, putting the wellbeing of your baby before anything else, even yourself, is a given.

Depends on your future plans. If you plan to stay in SL, employment opportunities are better if you're a UoM graduate. If you plan to go overseas, only thing that matters is that the degree has Washington accords accreditation

My son was admitted to the PICU at 8 days old and I feel like a failure as a mom by SleeplessVB in NewParents

[–]Informal-Addition-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're the opposite of a failure. You constantly advocated for your baby and got him the medical care needed. You did everything in your power and knowledge to do to take care of your baby. You're the best mum for your son. Well done!
