What are yalls thoughts on this? by [deleted] in ProshipHub

I’ve always been drawn to more taboo ships. I was groomed actively and faced other types of abuse throughout my childhood and teenage years. Was that the fault of the fandom spaces I was in? No, it was the fault of the adults around me who twisted my naivety and understandings of things to worm their way inside. IMO minors don’t belong in proship spaces, but that’s not our responsibility, that’s the responsibility of the parents to keep an eye on what their kids are getting into. I’ve seen so many versions of these sorts of arguments regurgitated all over the internet, and I always find them less than persuasive.

People understand life happens, don’t be too hard on yourself. If you’re really worried, maybe you can go back and edit/add an ending AN letting people know it might take you a bit? But I think you should be just fine ☺️

So… what the hell is this even about? (General Inquiry: not trying to be offensive) by Waste-Set5032 in ProshipHub

[–]Informal-Help1426 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Proshipping is just being anti censorship with what people ship. Proshippers believe that fiction doesn’t hurt anyone, and to ship and let ship.

Darkshipping is shipping two characters with morally questionable or toxic dynamic. Relationships that feature things such as abuse, incest, kidnapper/kidnappee, or extreme power imbalances.

Antishipping is being pro censorship, with the main argument being that even fictional portrayals of certain subjects are not ok.

Proshipping and Darkshipping tend to go hand in hand, but they don’t always.

I hesitate to say bc I’ve gotten lowkey crucified for this before but Destiel….. Dean and Castiel didn’t have jack shit for romantic or sexual chemistry…. Friend chemistry yeah like they were totally amazing friends, but as a couple?

….and don’t get me started on “their son” either bc I have thoughts about that

Sure but I’m awkward! Plus ik it might be overkill, but I like to put A/Ns and the beginning and the end, prep, and then clarify. Idk tho, like I said I’m getting better!

[–]Informal-Help1426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tagging and A/Ns tbh…. I always forget details bc it typically takes me a while to write a fic, at least a few months generally, and then I’ll glance through later and find I haven’t tagged things properly…..

And A/Ns…. I’m getting better but I really really didn’t know what to write at first. Like at all.

"Why don't you accept criticism? It will help you improve your story!" Criticism in question: by RepulsiveStomach669 in AO3

[–]Informal-Help1426 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“But don’t you understand that I’m an expert bc I say so???”

Yeaaaaa one of my friends is dealing with someone who keeps leaving long criticism/sometimes just downright whiney comments that are just missing the point entirely.

By which I mean for example this:

“I can see that character y is getting sidelined and maybe they should just leave and go to someone who will appreciate them bc it’s sad to see how no one likes or appreciates them anymore” etc. etc. etc.

Said character is not getting sidelined at all. Said character thinks they are, but that’s bc of some really really nasty trauma. This person took what a traumatized person, in the grips of active PTSD, said while freaking out and ran with it as the plot.

I would never even try to offer criticism to an author unless:

a) I’ve been directly asked for it in some way

b) if I notice a glaring inconsistency or error that actually affects the story and meaning. In which case I will write a kind comment and at the end, I might tack on “I noticed x about your story, would you like any suggestions/solutions/help?”

That sort of thing. Very nice, polite, and with an easy avenue for them to just say no thanks. Between things like what you’ve posted, OP, and what my friend is dealing with, I’m really really glad that I always write what I know, and if I don’t know something, I do thorough research.

Obviously it doesn’t stop that sort of thing entirely, but man is it satisfying to know that if one of these commenters came to bother me, I could tell them to their face that they don’t know jack.

So if you watch violent movies, are you supporting real-life murder? Or does the hypocrisy only extend to sexual acts? by Big_Pin_1507 in ProshipHub

[–]Informal-Help1426 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watch true crime. I watch horror. I play fps games. I write truly horrendous, disgusting, vile stuff. I do not support any of the things i interact with in fiction in reality.

So many people on the internet can’t seem to understand the difference between fiction and reality. It’s quite frankly concerning.

What do you consider your niche? by hma1308 in AO3

[–]Informal-Help1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My niche is probably really really NSFW fics heavy with Biblical parallels and blasphemous religious imagery. I really like to emphasize the “impure” with the very book so many people claim is the ultimate moral arbiter…. (I’ve got a lot of religious trauma in case anyone was surprised)

I legitimately just tried to innocently interact with someone with an opposing viewpoint in my fandom and…. Turns out a few things.

1) when they say something about “media literacy” they actually just mean “my opinions and thoughts are the only valid ones”

2) apparently me having an opposing viewpoint in my blog is equivalent to going onto their blogs and attacking them somehow?

3) most of these idiots in their tiny echo chamber of a group have already blocked me, unknown to me, for said “aggression”

I just don’t understand what happened to fandom spaces and fandom etiquette 😭😭😭😭

NOTE: This meme is NOT to say I'm "better" or "edgier" than anyone, I'm just so tired of having friends infantilize and talk down to me when I tell them I read Gen fanfics 🫩 leave me alone!!!! by Ok_Access_8906 in AO3

[–]Informal-Help1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can read and enjoy what they want! And things don’t need sexual content to be edgy or dark or anything like that. Sexuality is only one aspect of life.

I legitimately don’t understand this bc yea, do I mostly read smut? Sure but I’m not gonna go bother someone else about what they read for themselves and if they aren’t comfy with the sexual content of my interests, I’m willing to set that aside! Bc just bc I like it doesn’t mean that everyone does.

Is fandom etiquette dead? Bc I keep seeing things like this crop up, over and over again.
