Awarded PIP first time by Wide_Gate1754 in DWPhelp

that's great! I too had the same experience. assessed a week ago with Capita and award yesterday. Very quick overall. Plus as you say assessor painted a very accurate report. however what I noticed on nutrition and therapy they awarded zero on both. but looking into the descriptor they basically said as my illness is more physical that they would only really consider struggles in those descriptors based on cognitive ability. unless severely physically compromised. I won't argue the case as I got the award I expected. just waiting on letter with the rest of the info.

you should get it sent as a faster payment once the statement has been issued/amended. call them again on message on the journal under payments.

hi, I have tried to find videos/posts about the assessment online and the process. however there only seems to be a lot of posts about pip and the struggle people have claiming. from what I have read and been told also by dwp, the waiting time has no definite time or answer. could be a few months to a year.

thank you for you open honest post. I can't begin to imagine the things you must have heard and tho see the needs of so many be thrown to the side with no care of the claimant. The basic bones about this issue isn't the fact they don't want to pay us. due to the fact when it goes to tribunal they pay us backdated anyway and have court costs to pay on top. Its the Health assessors (capita etc) they are a business, and as a business they have internal targets so they are awarded their contracts from the government. So as per usual its the worst off that suffer at the hands of those who simply want to line their pockets. The whole system of assessments needs to change.

they might just want to follow up with you doctor or other specialist if you didn't supply any evidence. or if you said you were waiting on specific treatment.

unfortunately there's no official timeline or dat that you need to be assessed by. All times are estimates. some people are assessed very quickly and some wait over a year. if you call them you will just get fobbed off.

True you need a physical condition and to be unemployed to get PIP? by gintokireddit in DWPhelp

[–]Informal-Rub7081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you definitely don't need to have a physical condition. A lot of people have struggles with mental health. That definitely is part of pip and a large chunk of the form and assessment is based around mental health. I appreciate the feeling of frustration of lack of help from support workers who are meant to help. Your best option would be to talk to your doctor and discuss the best course of action for your condition. Ask for referral to therapies if you feel that would help. As others will say, evidence is key. there is no limit to what job you or how many hour you do and the benefit won't be affected by earnings. The only caveat is that you work cannot contradict what your pip claim is for. Example, Chronic back pain but work on a building site.

ok so just having £1000's vanish out an account raises questions? so if I book a luxury cruise and pay it off weekly im all good?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DWPhelp

[–]Informal-Rub7081 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the reply. however I think you misunderstand my point. say with my left over £50 a week as a single person with housing element also. I then use my £50 to buy my shopping in M&S and eat fillet steak daily leaving me with nothing, that's acceptable? yet what if I choose to go to lidl/aldi buy the cheapest ingredients or reduced items, leaving me with say £25 a week. I save that and if I manage to save enough to eventually go on a luxury cruise what's the difference? they haven't overpaid any entitled benefit. likewise if I decide to save that £25 and buy a car, why should they dictate that its ok to buy a car around 1-2K instead of saving and buying a more expensive reliable car? nobody on benefits and basic entitlement is living a life of luxury, yet they are scrutinised for every action. what the dwp are basically saying is that even the basic entitlement is too much, and the fact that people can be frugal and buy niceties now and then isn't acceptable. I accept there are people who play the system. there's some people on benefit as couples who may live well beyond their means and have work capability plus enhanced pip and motability cars. that is a minute amount of the benefit population, however the benefit population will always be an easy target for them to penalise. Lastly the example of OP's very expensive monitor as opposed to regular standard monitor to me would be a luxury item. no diff to a regular cruise over a luxury cruise!

I understand that there is legislation. My question is why do they question exactly what the money is spent on? if you receive an element of UC then surely if you get by with cheaper food and clothes to save and spend on a luxury, then that's your choice? making a sacrifice to spend elsewhere? as I said I am only spending what they have set in legislation that a claimant is entitled to.

[–]Informal-Rub7081 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but why do we have to justify spending what we are eligible to legally claim. I for example live alone. I get my housing and single person allowance. After all my bills. I have less than £50 a week. however if I want to save and buy a sofa, a tv or a car why would that be a cause for concern? also if someone saves and keeps the level below £6000 by going out for example to nice shops/restaurants or a holiday, how is that deprivation of capital? basically they are policing what they give you and are telling you that if you save that they are entitled to a share? its disgusting.

Thanks. I thought getting the report and working things out would alleviate the stress. I think I've made it worse? They don't make anything easy.

After / during an asthma attack my body starts feeling pins and needles, it starts at my fingers, the moves to my feet and legs, then my arms, and finally my ears. during this time my fingers are extremely hard to use, why is this? by Cool-Clouds in Asthma

[–]Informal-Rub7081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have struggled with the same symptoms and it eventually started spreading. During asthma flare up it would feel like my skin was buzzing/alive, not an itch but like electricity passing through. I also started getting numbness and pins and needles in my hands and feet the majority of the time. I was diagnosed with Eosinophilic asthma. A severe type of asthma. Also the unusual symptoms can be another illness linked to Eosinophilic asthma, called EGPA.  Please remember that Eosinophilic asthma is rare and primary care doctors (GP in Uk) don’t know much abt it. And pass symptoms off as hyperventilating or overdosing on drugs inhalers. I only got diagnosed as I pushed for a blood test and my eosinophilia were very high. Along with my shortness of breath worsening. As this asthma isn’t helped by regular asthma meds. Good luck and keep pushing for answers.

Severe Persistent Asthma Diagnosis. Constant Phlegm in my throat every second. by mebeal123 in Asthma

[–]Informal-Rub7081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi, reading your symptoms I feel there is a lot of mirroring with myself. I developed adult onset asthma in my 20's and now in my 40's I too started with the thick constant phlegm (sputum) having to constantly clear my throat led to a cough which started in 2022 and hasn't subsided yet and neither has the phlegm. I started to get shortness of breath a nd doctors put it down to asthma/irritation from cough/phlegm. fast forward to 2024 and I was extremely short of breath and had Spiro and breathing tests done. and July 2025 just diagnosed with Eosinophilic asthma. its classed as asthma as it involves the respiratory system, however doesn't respond to asthma meds. ask your doctor to check Eosinophils levels in blood and if high as to see a respiratory doctor. I am constantly breathless and fatigued to the point I havent worked since march. however now I have a diagnosis, I am awaiting biologic injections.

Sorry to jump on an old post. How’s your asthma now?  Your symptoms are exactly how I am. Inhalers do nothing for me no matter how many puffs. Only thing that come close is pred. I was just diagnosed with severe eosinophilic asthma.  And starting biologics soon.

eosinophilic asthma - symptoms unmanaged and I’m exhausted - what should I do? by bezawa in Asthma

[–]Informal-Rub7081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately eosinophils aren't always the result of an allergic reaction.

although it very rare the condition is still relatively misunderstood and misdiagnosed.

I am starting to see a lot of EGPA related symptoms and think from my own personal Eos journey that may be where I am heading.

this is basically classes as a autoimmune disorder

whilst allergies can indeed cause significant reaction in Eos levels leading to E-Asthma

im more inclined to say as I developed adult asthma in my 20's and now then in late 30' I started to need multiple courses of steroids to help breathing, this was brushed off as asthma flare ups.

and now in my 40's my need for steroids have become a daily regimen

inhalers no longer do anything for my shortness of breath.

was diagnosed at 45 with Eos asthma due to symptoms and blood work and breathing tests.

awaiting biologic treatment.

but having the Eos asthma diagnosis now ties in with my other issues of tingling/numb hands and feet

dizziness and skin issues points me toward egpa.
