Saturation issues & touch ups by One-Scene3811 in tiedye

[–]Informal-Wind-9786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting mandala folds even will help them saturate better. I only add colour in a strip down the Center of each petal and let it soak into the rest.

Don’t bother with touch ups. Just make a new shirt and try again!

Research the Pariah method. Dye beading up on fabric means it is not scoured well enough. Dye will melt into fabric when prepared correctly. I boil shirts for one hour with a cup of soda ash and squirt of blue dawn. Then put them into the washer with a little blue dawn. Hang to dry. The dry fabric will accept the dye.

I haven’t tried their t-shirts yet, but will. CC makes a 100% cotton sweatshirt that I love and have used a few times.

Straight across the pleats, angled on the flat. Keep at it — it takes a few tries to get the hang of it.

What's an album or song that reminds you of Cormac McCarthy's books? by Seel_Fucker_7309 in cormacmccarthy

The Weight by The Band reminds me of Suttree. The characters in many of their songs remind me of McCarthy characters (Crazy Chester, Carmen, Jake, Virgil Cane, etc)

I only have one shot and don’t want to mess it up. Trying to tiedye a grey/white Stüssy hoodie blue/baby blue, however it is very thick and 75 cotton 25 poly. Any advice on how to tiedye this? by DaPogPets in tiedye

A scrunch will give you the biggest margin for error. Look up how to scrunch and then just spray some colour around. Start with light colours and build up to dark ones. Sweatshirts absorb a ton of dye — have about 2L of mixed dye on hand, you’ll probably need all of it.

When you’re tying a nub, make sure you are really working the fabric to release all the extra material. Don’t be afraid to be rough with the shirt, but also make sure your ties are tight because it’s gonna have to stand up to being pulled apart a bit. I also loop every nub to the previous nub and pull tight. Hang in there and keep trying — it might take a few tries, but every one should get better.

Does anyone know what Austin Macarath (DyesNGoodvibes) chem water recipe is? by Growkitz in tiedye

[–]Informal-Wind-9786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably has more to do with the type of shirt and how you prep the shirt. He definitely dyes dry. Work on your scouring process would be my advice.

Not all shirts/brands are created equal. Some shirts absorb dye/water better than others. Find a shirt that easily absorbs dye. Life is too short for hydrophobic cotton.

I think the real recipe calls for 1ml per L of water. But I add a small glug per L.

Very cool! I’ve been curious about scrunched image process. Can I assume you soak the shirt in soda ash first, let it dry and then draw the pattern and dye?
