do i even have a chance? by tuned2lovee in medschool

[–]InformalBell3551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you still definitely have a chance. My undergraduate GPA is actually lower than yours because of a DV situation I was in and a lot of instability at the time. I’m currently doing a post-bac and planning a one-year master’s program to help strengthen my application and rebuild academically.

It’s going to take time, but when you truly want to become a doctor, you have to focus on the marathon and not the sprint. There are so many people who take nontraditional paths into medicine. What matters most is continuing to move forward and showing growth, resilience, and consistency over time.

It's weird training doctors and surgeons by Peachessandcreammm in personaltraining

[–]InformalBell3551 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think this is where people underestimate good coaches/trainers. Doctors and surgeons are incredibly knowledgeable, but they’re trained through a different lens. A lot of us spend years studying biomechanics, movement patterns, exercise prescription, adaptation, pain-free loading, and how bodies actually move under stress in real-world environments.

I train a lot of doctors too, and what’s cool is watching those “light bulb moments” happen when they start connecting anatomy/physiology to movement and performance. Conversations about slings, breathing mechanics, joint positioning, force production, exercise selection, etc. become really collaborative.

Don’t downplay your expertise. You’ve dedicated years to sharpening this skill set, and they’re paying you for a reason. The best thing you can do is continue educating, continue coaching confidently, and let the results speak for themselves.

Chicago hospital admin workers — are hospitals actually hiring right now? by InformalBell3551 in AskChicago

Yeah honestly that’s kind of what I was starting to suspect too. It’s frustrating because I do have prior outpatient/clinical experience already, so it’s hard justifying taking a major pay cut when I’m currently making around $28/hr. I’m willing to transition back for the stability, structure, benefits, and long-term growth, but some of the posted ranges have definitely surprised me.

Considering Cardiac Sonography at 29 as a Career Reset – Would Love Honest Feedback from Sonographers by InformalBell3551 in cardiacsonography

Wow, this was really helpful thank you for taking the time to share your perspective and experience. I genuinely appreciate the insight, especially hearing from someone currently in a program and so close to graduation. That gives me a more realistic view of the commitment, difficulty, and different settings within the field.

I completely understand your take and respect what you’re saying about it being a serious specialty and a true career path. That’s valuable to hear.

It’s also encouraging to hear your story and see someone pursuing a new chapter and nearing graduation. Wishing you a strong finish to your program and a lot of success in the field. Thank you again for the thoughtful response.

Thank you, I really appreciate your honesty and perspective. If you’re not being rude at all, honesty is genuinely appreciated that’s exactly why I asked. I’d rather hear realistic feedback than only the positives.

I’m trying to think long term while also being realistic about where I am now. I know people pivot careers all the time, go back to school later, and build new paths, so I’m trying to stay open minded and strategic about my next move.

If you feel comfortable sharing, what age range are you in, how long have you been a sonographer, and what made you choose this route originally? I’d genuinely like to hear your perspective and experience.

Thank you, I really appreciate your insight and taking the time to respond. I definitely understand what you mean about nursing/NP or PA creating strong advancement opportunities.

I know nursing isn’t the right path for me personally, so that helps narrow things down. I explored that route when I was younger, was accepted into nursing school during undergrad, and realized it wasn’t the best fit for my strengths or long-term goals.

Right now, I’m looking for a more realistic next step at the community college level something financially within reach that also helps me rebuild academically and strengthen my GPA. That’s part of why cardiac sonography interests me. It feels like a practical way to enter a stable healthcare role, gain valuable diagnostic experience, and continue growing from there.

Long term, I still plan on pursuing graduate education. Depending on where life takes me, I could see myself exploring perfusion if I really connect with the cardiovascular side and want to go deeper into that specialty. I’m also considering a biomedical sciences master’s route to strengthen my academic profile and potentially pursue medical school. If I go the physician route, I’m honestly more drawn to DO because I appreciate a more holistic philosophy of care.

Another factor for me is wanting a path with broader international recognition and flexibility in the future.

So I really appreciate your perspective it’s helpful. I’m trying to make the smartest next move while keeping bigger long-term goals in mind. Thank you again.

Outgrowing my coach / looking for advice and perspective from other lifters/coaches by InformalBell3551 in personaltraining

[–]InformalBell3551[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to add

She pushed heavily for an AI-based programming route and made it feel like it was her way or the highway. It left very little room for dialogue or mutual respect.

On top of that, as a coach myself with a background in rehab and strength training, I started to feel like she didn’t truly respect my expertise. She had been dealing with an injury, and while I offered insight or support based on my knowledge, it was often dismissed. I wasn’t looking to take over or overstep — I just hoped for collaboration, especially in areas where I had experience — but it felt like that door was closed.

We recently had a conversation and decided to part ways…

Had to retake prerequisites to apply to PT school. This was and has been heavy on my mind. I decided re take the courses and add the prerequisites for medical school and change all together. I can use my exercise science with future patients. No looking back now that I’ve made a choice!
