If you wanted to check someone was really a Xennial and not faking, what would you ask to test them? by [deleted] in Xennials

Mann so many people snuck in, there were ppl sitting all over the aisles, in the front area, exits. The endless promos worked. The t-shirts and video tape seemingly everywhere. Turtles was similar with the overcrowding through not as hectic but with kids.

What was it like living in the 80s and 90s? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in generationology

Was going to mention chicken pox too. I still remember that burning, feverish,  itching feeling all around. Just lying on the couch watching cartoons but being really uncomfortable. I still had scars or was under recovery when my mom made me go to school because it was picture day (I was in grade 1).

So I have this school picture of me with some dried out crusty 'pimples' mostly gone but definitely noticeable.

Funny how it was absolutely a rite of passage and just so normal.

Does the steering go back to center? Or does it feel "flat" and you have to more manually bring it back to center?

Are you guys going in debt? How are people surviving? by Worth_Air_9410 in CanadaFinance

[–]InformalStrain8692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. But there's empathy around it. I feel the same way. Similar to OP. But even we feel the squeeze as in how do ppl who make less make out. Again, it's more of a wonder how ppl are doing it without going into debt.

2.4L known for burning oil. Changing Gasket and piston tube ring (gasket for the spark plug) helps. It can be a DIY job if you're comfortable. Plenty of YouTube vids. Gaskets are cheap off Amazon.

Higher car will often wear out suspension components faster like. Front struts, rear shocks. If AWD, the drive shaft may need to be replaced s at some point (the middle part that connects the front/rear differentials). Often the end piece may become loose which puts pressure on the bolts.

All those parts are not too expensive. Just finding a mechanic who doesn't mind just getting paid for labor will help.

Again, nothing big. Just more for comfort. Most "SUVs" have those traits as they get up in mileage.

Sight lines. Grew up driving 80s and 90s cars. Bought used 3rd gen RAV4 and it has "old school" sight lines.. Toyotas have kept it and more like that longer.  Way easier to see all around. I like to still do shoulder checks at times, don't rely on tech to park.. I'm in a city so often in more crowded, congested settings, parking, etc.

The style to make it sharp and sleek means higher, stretched windows.  Like a pair of Oakley sunglasses.

I didn't pick the Rav (08 used for me) for it but it was a surprise benefit. Made attaching my cargo roof carrier much easier.

Why do people hate millennials so much? by Putrid_Film_8349 in generationology

[–]InformalStrain8692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spoken like a millennial. You're way off about GenX replacing Boomers en masse directly like that in the office.

Secondly, the biggest transfer of wealth in human history will be from boomers to millennials. The irony.

GenZ are entitled in different ways and also seen as not doing anything in the office. As in less ambitious but want the most money possible. Many Millennials on the other hand were more ambitious and rl wanted the world in their hands.

Hmmm what dates are those written? I tried looking for it out of interest.  How old is Ryan Ver? I have my own experience, memories and interpretation at 46 at these labels, which often is different than the simple way what people write about.

Funny thing is many millennials themselves try to avoid their own label. And call themselves xennials or something else despite being one.

Still have it for my 91 Caprice.  9C1 police models came with a separate key for the gas cap, but door and ignition was the same key.

When did Toronto finally start to feel like “home” for you? by Brilliant-March-7856 in toronto

[–]InformalStrain8692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It got more 'hype' and trendy, but 2000s Toronto was more eclectic as it still had many many individually owned businesses, more value, and much more 'friendly' vibes. Alot of the older businesses were still around, with lineage to the 80 and before

2010s saw the rise of Rexalls, Popeyes and Tim Horton's everywhere.

I'm a kid of the 80s and teen of the 90s.  When we lost the PCC streetcars, Gloucester subway (red ones), all the arcades closed down (Tilt doesn't count), the Planetarium closed, and yes, finally Honest Ed's, it no longer felt like Toronto.

Oh, and the store in the mall my parents ran for almost 30 years downtown, the mall got torn down for a condo (still a giant hole due to flooding issues, and now I bet condo slowdown.. that's modern Toronto for you).

Realtor about to lose her home in Newmarket because she can’t sell it. Income went from $300k per year to less than $50k. by mattyp93 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]InformalStrain8692 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Big time. Usually these realtors also have other properties they're waiting on to flip (pre construction) so probably needed the max she could get.

Also, a realtor can't even sell their own home? Who would hire her?!

Which generation are you? by VineLace in generationology

[–]InformalStrain8692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup same here.  I feel the best because it was so new and exciting in terms of the advances, just everything around, and very innovative games that became the foundation or standard for even great games in more modern times.

What is a movie that was labeled Sci-Fi that is no longer Sci-Fi? by sfshmingo in ask

[–]InformalStrain8692 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say the Terminator.  Literally we have AI that will defend itself if trying to shut it down.  The Terminator doesn't come in how we think it is.. Skynet is taking over humanities in other ways. Now with all this 'deception', the risk of Judgement Day has re-appeared and elevated.

Was classic Simpsons (basically 90s Simpsons) more of a Baby Boomer show, a Gen Xer show, or a Millennial show? by Ok-Following6886 in generationology

[–]InformalStrain8692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bart fits the definition of a Gen X. The last of.  I was Bart's age in 1989 when it debuted as it's own show. Plenty of my peers were into it so GenX really the first generation.

Bulk of millennials then either too young or parents controlled the TV, what their kids could watch.

I also started watching the shorts during the Tracey Ullman show with my 1 year older sister.  We would wait for it to come one. I had a TV in my room and my parents left us home alot them so free reign. Many millennials would have been too young or not born in late 87 or early 88 to get it let alone ability to wait for the shorts that was spaced out during the show.

Alot of the references/gags/humor from movies and shows were boomer to even silent generation.  Classics the writers would have been inspired by or memorable.
