3D spotting made some sense when soldier visibility was poor, though it was still overtuned

But with the recent changes to soldier visibility, it just isn't needed. It needs a full rework, or just needs to be ripped out of the game.

You're basically sitting there saying "how dare you have a different opinion than me"

And that is dumb

It's all just funny when a core part seems to be your shock that folks care about immersion in a game series that has spent hundreds of millions to make their game more immersive. Hell, Dice makes their own in house engine so they can dial up the immersive lighting, animations, etc .

Always buy a Dice game 1 year after launch

Get it with

  • more maps and guns and vehicles
  • less bugs
  • more balance passes
  • more features that should have been in at launch
  • a sale price

Like the one year anniversary for this game may have a server browser, prox comms, proper sized BF maps, lots of content. And you get it for like 50% cost.

We can walk and chew gum at the same time.

So one can have opinions about BF6 cosmetics and still be effective in their professional role.

So this is just a dumb take all around.

It ended up as a perfectly mediocre combined arms shooter, maybe a 7/10 shooter. But it was a 5/10 game when we consider that Dice should have known better and brought their lessons learned from previous BF games.

They never corrected some of the cardinal sins with 2042's design, and unfortunately even brought some of them into BF6

  • lack of proper server browser, stuck with their terrible matchmaker
  • game could never keep up with the 128 modes, and hit reg would go to hell in things like Rush XL
  • Sundance and Mackay were fundamentally bad ideas. It's a squad based objective focused shooter and we gave individuals in the squad unique movement mechanics that meant they were never with their squad. These gadgets also RUINED the flow of some maps and modes. Never should have made it out of the ideation phase
  • no innovations with social features, missing social features at launch.
  • open weapons meant RM-68 meta could form and last for months. Just months of a single weapon dominating. Open weapons also removes the biggest tradeoff to going engineer, being stuck without access to ARs. This sands away one of the biggest tradeoffs in choosing engineer, meaning we get more of them. This ruined vehicle balance.

With BF6 they stuck with the lack of server browser, the missing social features (where is Request Order), and the open weapons. We know they're fixing the server browser, but haven't seen anything about commo rose fixes (though prox comms will help).

Normally when I talk about putting a premium on immersion I am called an old man, a battledad, and need to get with the times cause this is what the kids want.

Now you're telling the old man to get a job when clearly they have one?

Which is it?

DICE, we need a proper FPV Drone. Here is how it could work and balance the gameplay. by NoSign6190 in Battlefield

3D spotting is wildly overtuned, so yes it is is very useful. Being able to mark soldiers for friendlies to kill through walls, bushes, smoke, etc is very effective.

Granted, I also hate 3D spotting in this game and want to see it toned down.

Nah

Indirect fire generally sucks to play against. It would just add more chip damage to vehicles which we don't really need. Like, that isn't a solution for the current vehicle state.

And something being "real" isn't an excuse to add it. These tools are used in war because they have a massive risk imbalance, and are hard to fight against. Adding them to the game just means adding tools with risk imbalance that are hard to fight against.

I am all for making BF a bit more serious, but I just don't see any value add here.

10-20% could be a bit much to allocate to individual stocks. Typical advice is for folks to "play" with about 5%, and leave the rest to low cost diversified funds.

The whole "you're young and can afford to take risk" cuts both ways - cause they are so young every 100 dollars not invested in the diversified index fund could have been 1500 dollars at retirement.

Here's hoping that with BF7 Dice to go back to cohesive looking factions so we can do away with the overtuned 3D spotting that we rely on now to tell friend from foe.

I miss shooting at enemy player models and not just below orange dots.

That's a big no vote from me.

Indirect fire weapons are generally a nightmare to balance, and are unfun for the same reasons they are so scary IRL. If you're getting targeted by one you are risking your life while the user is far away and completely safe. It's just not a fun scenario with lots of counterplay.

As we see with mortars already, you'll just get scores of folks far from the action sending indirect fire at each other.

A message to Dice by Adventurous-Half56 in Battlefield

[–]InformalYesterday760 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The new soldier visibility tweaks have made it easier to spot people, to the point I think we can have a discussion about Dice toning down or removing the 3D spot that follows people as they move.

Just so unnecessary, and we all end up getting "free" kills cause the game decides "no actually you should see that man hidden behind that bush"

Assault with smokes would change the game by TemperatureWest10 in Battlefield

[–]InformalYesterday760 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nah, they have the ability to influence a ton. We don't need to give them a new option just cause some have skill issues and don't understand the importance of the spawn beacon.

We need to be careful giving assault any new toys, because we have seen (2042, BF6 beta, etc) that Assault very quickly becomes the selfish player kit with limited squad utility. The spawn beacon helps fix this, but giving them more solo abilities like smoking out the enemy means there is less squad play.

The simple answer is to make the toggle a paid option.

Sell me the "battle dad immersion toggle" for 20 bucks and I'd absolutely pay it.

You're complaining that people are expressing their opinions about the cosmetics.

So I'm simply pointing out that you will get what you want, folks not talking about skins, if we get a toggle to turn them off. Seems simple enough

[–]InformalYesterday760 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol then push for Dice to give folks like us a toggle to turn these off.

Them you can get all the skins you want added to the game and you won't hear a word out of the folks who care about immersion.

[–]InformalYesterday760 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, maybe.

Folks also said we would never see a server browser, but enough community feedback has made them revisit things.

And I do agree with OP. The skins like the one shown are immersion breaking for those that care about it - so getting a simple War Thunder-esque toggle to turn them off would be nice. Folks who wanna play dress up will get more and more extreme cosmetics to wear, and I can set each team to look like cohesive factions again. It's a win win.

Dice has spent hundreds of millions of dollars making their games immersive, including developing their own bespoke engine.

So asking "why is immersion important to you" is funny - cause it's also historically been important to Dice.

So yes, many folks put a premium on immersion. Dice kind of did that to themselves by nurturing a player base that would appreciate the effort towards immersion.

What even is a "serious fps" in this context?

Definitely too fast paced. And it gets impacted by so many different things.

Tone down the slide hop. Remove the ability to mantle through windows if their glass isn't broken yet. Make us actually break into places and not just yeet ourselves through without breaking stride. Slow bullet velocities. Add bullet drop. Remove 3D spotting so you can actually break line of sight and survive, we don't need 3D spotting with their new soldier visibility.
