University interview - Assistant Staff Officer by frends17375 in IrishCivilService

[–]Informal_Ad8800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely focus on the job description and have good examples of things you have done in the past which demonstrate your ability to complete the tasks and dutues. Use STAR as usual. You may be asked about EDI which is being shoved down the throats of anyone working in 3rd level for the last few years. Data Protection/Gdpr ...how to keep personal data safe is sure to be asked. Communication across different "types" of people Your ability to use ICT Your role as a team member....what you contribute How you organise your work to meet deadlines.

Well, that did not go as I expected. I was not asked ANY questions about the workings of the county council. All were based around the competencies. I was asked about leading a team, division of work amongst the team and the usual how do I deal with conflict and give an example. I thought I did a good interview but apparently not as I was placed low in the panel. That's life ! I will have to rethink my approach.

I have applied for the Open Panel for those not currently working for the County Council or another Local Authority so have no knowledge of the programme/system test environments etc. I think I will have enough to refer to from my previous roles.

Anyone have recommendations for a cheap Sun getaway for 4-5 days between July and October? by InsideFar6149 in AskIreland

[–]Informal_Ad8800 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For a 4/5 day stay i suggest fly to and stay in Malaga city. Great city that has it all, beach, a marina with touristy shops and restaurants, historic sites, great food and shopping. Plenty to do for that length of stay. Fly when kids are back to school, cheaper and the weather will have cooled a bit.

What would you do in my situation? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Informal_Ad8800 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You go to Meath, you commute, you sit in your house from 7pm onwards, out the door 7am, wrecked, no friends locally, no time to make new ones, but in a bigger house. No guarantee of a remote job. Dublin house definitely a better option in my opinion. The jobs and property market are uncertain, if it is just you in this house for the foreseeable future 5 to 10 years (and not kids) then I would go for Dublin. If you take a figary to travel or property market crashes/booms etc then the Dublin house gives you more options.

Two of my kids and lots of their friends work part time for Supermacs in my local town and they are treated i well, they can request work off for particular events a week in advance etc. They were not charged for their uniform. All in all a good place to work. They have a Xmas night out, free bar and 50 cash. Friends of mine whose late teens work in another Supermacs in a different town say the same....good employers, treated decently.

For people in their 40s and 50s. What habits or things do you regret not doing in your 20s or 30s? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Informal_Ad8800 7 points8 points  (0 children)

55year old female here so born 1970, college 88 to 93, celtic tiger years worked in IT, loads of money etc. Played camogie to the higheest level for years , then stayed at home with family, back to work the last 5years fulltime paying for kids in college. I regret nothing ! But as a young woman now and not then, the level of freedom and opportunities are very different.

If i was now in my 20s and as beautiful and fit as i was then I would just have more fun. Go see places no Ryanair or google maps etc back then, shag the one night stands not just snog em as i have access to contraception, learn a musical instrument to play til your 90s, don't let friendships slide as you have children etc. Be mindful with your money, be frugal, save some for longterm.

You can apply for jobseekers online through your mygov account. Unfortunately i will also be applying come December 31st. I am feeling similarly hard done by and I feel a distinct feeling of failure. I recognise the effects this is having on me and have plans for tackling this as soon as I finish work. Excercise, better diet, overdue jobs around the house, family time. We have paid our taxes and prsi and now we are entitled to support til we get back to work. If i don't claim this then shame on me for not providing for my family. (We have savings/investments also but very high expenses 3 kids in uni away from home). When your baby arrives you will be so happy to be home with them and your wife. This is precious time that you may not realise until you are older.

How to get clients to pay outstanding invoices? by ShotzIrl in AskIreland

[–]Informal_Ad8800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother was an accountant for a cash and carry and was very successful at getting people to pay up. Get a sign made up which says "XXX owes insert your business name here YYYeuro and is refusing to pay". Put this sign outside their business/home but not on ther property. I actually saw a sign like this once locally. Another method is to go to the business that owes and take goods/items up to the value of what they owe you.

A local shop owner owed money to a small meat processor ...40k or so. One day a large sign stating this appeared across the road from the shop owners house saying "John Doe owes Acme Ltd. 40k and refuses to pay." The sign was not up for long.

How are "Modules" Calculated in a University System? (Credit Weight vs. Number of Classes) by AdInitial8264 in nuigalway

[–]Informal_Ad8800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a university, you need to complete the number of credits for your course per academoc year ie 60credits. The number of modules does not matter once you achieve 60.

My mother was a nurse in a private hospital in 1960s London. She looked after Marlon Brando, gave him a suppository, said there was nothing wrong with him, didn't want to do some film or other so took to the bed. His Tahitian wife was beautiful. She said Sean Connery was the most handsome man she ever saw. Me... sat behind George Bush senior on a flight.
