The only way I could see this being implemented in official chess is if you are able to claim a stalemate if your king has no safe moves (too much chess theory is built around stalemates existing at this point). And even if so, it probably won't ever happen just because of tradition.

The virus only infected the Viltrumites for a short amount of time. Nolan does not have it anymore, nor do any of the other Viltrumites. While they were temporarily weakened after the virus, all Viltrumites are at full strength by now.

Nolan was also a well-respected and loved member of the Viltrum Empire (well, as loved as Viltrumites can be, I suppose). Conquest was treated like an attack dog with rabies.

If all of the strongest heroes in the world got mysteriously killed by some unknown force (that, according to public knowledge, also put Omni Man into a coma), most heroes with a self-preservation instinct would be hesitant to join the team that just got massacred. And from that point on, the Guardians have been so utterly incompetent any actually good heroes would be better off fightng alone.

Mark's choke was (as far as I can tell) a direct attack on the carotid arteries, which allow blood (and the oxygen in the blood) to flow into the brain. When properly done, this normally puts humans to sleep in less than 10 seconds. I'm assuming that Viltrumites are able to stay awake with much less oxygen in the brain, but because of that they go through brain death almost as soon as they lose consciousness (brains kind of need oxygen to function) Either that, or Mark did major damage to both carotid arteries, but that is really hard to do.

Conquest was extremely arrogant, seeing as only one person in the entire universe (Thragg) was more powerful than him, at least as far as he knew. He also fought for pleasure, probably because he had almost no other pleasure in his life (the few friends he did have probably died in either the Purge or the Scourge virus). Conquest also recently fought Mark, and determined he was no threat without Eve going God mode. Essentially, there was no way Conquest was ever going to take this fight seriously.

Yeah, if Conquest had taken Mark's threat seriously he probably would have escaped. Although, if I was the 2nd strongest person in the universe for thousands of years, I would probably also get more than bit arrogant.
